DF Suggestions / Simple suggestion: Saving

Currently, every time you select "Save Game", it closes the game.

Why not splitting the option? "Save game and continue" and "Save game and exit". No longer the need to return to the main menu every single time you want to save!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Cursed

I suspect Armok cursed me. I can't find a way to have FUN, and if i find it, my dwarves are lucky enough that no one gets a single bruise.

List of attempts

- Shooting ballistas in an high traffic corridor --> TOTAL MISS.
- Left bridge open to an ambush --> Soldiers killed them anyway.
- Left bridge open to an ambush, no soldiers --> a dwarf is stuck on other side of the river, safe from goblin and with plenty of water and food. Had to abandon
- Attacked the first caravan that come --> Elves, AKA no guards, and so nobody fighting back my soldiers. Plain boring.
- Attacked by steel scaled dragon --> 50 dwarves died... after a boring half hour real-time. And dragon got killed by toe hit.
-- A FB attacks as soon as the dragon dies --> Other 30 death and first fortress to crumble to death. But naturally i have to wait another hour...
- Duplicated RAWs --> Embarked as humans, every other thing was perfectely normal.
- Genned world with 30 megabeast caves and 40 semimegas --> nothing interesting.
- Caged a dwarf, wanting to sell it to caravan --> damned infections.
- Metallic FB --> Metallic FB's head + Metallic FB's mutilated corpse

After that list of fails... I'm building a temple to Armok, where i'll sacrifice all goblins, elves, and kittens useless dwarves i'll find!

DF Modding / Anvils from rock

0.31.19: lot of new features but... too few metals. And even if you manage to find some metal on embark, your dwarven civilization usally doesn't have access to iron or steel, so you can't have an anvil to build a metalsmith's forge...

This mod solves this problem by simply adding a new reaction: it takes 20 rock boulder to the smelter and turn them into an iron anvil.

Why so many rocks? First, every fortress will have thousand of rocks, so this is not a problem. Second, hauling them will take a lot of time, so once you made your first anvil is more time-efficient to make them from bars. This will make this reaction an useful but slow way to make your first anvil!

Installation Instruction:

1. Drop the reaction_anvils file in the raw/objects folder.
2. If you don't have a modded entity_default file, drop the entity_default from the download to raw/objects and accept when you are asked to overwrite.
2.1. If you have modded entity_default, open it and paste the following token under [ENTITY:MOUNTAIN] (and every other civ you want to give the reaction)

Genned a few world for finding a cool embark... i guess i did it.

List of features:
-Floating Land and Water.
-Is that not enough for you?

And for everybody who wants it: save file. Just don't unpause if you aren't using a supercomputer! The entire map will cave in and FPS will be something like -100.

Also, there is something that looks like cavern floor. At z-level 163.
Mods Used: only my Monster Hunter mod.

World Gen Parameters: used the "medium region" advanced parameters setting, with about 200 years of history and a minimum  of 30 volcanoes (too lazy to pump magma up from the underground :P)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No iron at embark?

With the new version release, i found that dwarves can't access iron on embark.

For instance, on my last embark, my dwarven civilization have access only to copper. No iron or steel --> no anvils --> no metal production!.
And if dwarves, the kings of mining, don't have acces to steel, i don't think humans can bring me some anvils.

In an other world, dorfs with steel, copper, but still no iron (how the hell did the made the steel? i don't have a mod that add a steel ore :P)

Another world... my dwarves have Pig Iron, but both steel and iron are absent. Only them.

Is this a new secret feature? A bug? Or i'm extreme unlucky?? I am the only one or there is somebody other than me in the same situation?

Guys, i like 0.31.19 fewer metals, but I need an anvil, and I don't want to spend 300 embark points for a steel one.

Monster Hunter Universe (DOWNLOAD)

This mod adds everything possible from the Monster Hunter Games to Dwarf Fortress!
A short list of features:
- Naturally, the Monsters, from the commons Velocipreys to the steel-covered Kushala Daora and the huge Raviente!!
- Improved bones, for increased difficulty (this also makes bones a good choice for weapons and armor!)
- Wyvern leather (10X better than normal leather) and Draconic leather (like steel!)
- Adventure mode bone and leather crafting!
- Monster Hunter weapons, from the Sword & Shield to the Gunlance and the Bowguns!
- Coating for arrows and bolts! Power (aka fire), Poison, Sleep and Paralysis!
- Elemental bullets! Craftable in Adventure mode, they are effective against wyverns weak to a particuar element. Elements are:
--Fire
--Thunder
--Ice
--Water
--Dragon
- Monster Hunter plants (cookable, brewable, and used in adventure reactions).
- Metals!
--Dragonite: Good for weapons.
--Carbalite: Good for armor.
--Dragonite Steel: better than steel. Combine 1 steel + 1 dragonite.
--Carbalite Steel: better than dragonite steel, worse than adamantine. Combine 1 steel + 1 carbalite + 1 dragonite steel (50% chance of succes, 80% of producing meltable scraps)
--Eltalite: Very rare, but even better than adamantine
--Union: Can duplicate every other metal!!
- Felynes as an entity and playable race, both in adventure and fortress mode!!
- "More Creatures Version", with wyverns found around like normal beasts... for who wants an extra challange!

Hi everybody, i'm new to dwarf fortress modding, and was trying to create my own creature.

everything is just fine, except for a little problem: i was trying to give him some tail attacks, but they don't show up;

So... i created some animal trap and my trapper managed to capture some vermin (a lizard, a rat and a roach...). the traps are now in my animal stockpile.

how can i free the animal from the trap??:)
