Forum Games and Roleplaying / The League: Meet the Press [0/6]
« on: March 30, 2018, 04:21:41 am »
It has been the 78 years since the conclusion of The Great Calamity. Most of its veterans are dead, and the battlefields have been reclaimed by nature. Those who can wield the mysterious, quasi-divine power of Essence have been corralled and calm. Humanity rebuilds.
But it can't forget, no matter how hard it tries. The rationale mind of man will always be plagued with that primal chimpanzee bloodlust. More war would be nonsensical, but pacifism is agonizing. What must give? This impulse must be sated in a way that preserves society, no, strengthens it. An impossible task? Not in these modern times. We must make The League.

You must help build it lest we stumble into that abyss.

Premise:
In The League, you take the role of a Team Manager (TM) who is given the task of building, maintaining and leading a team of combatants to victory in a gladiatorial 3-VS-3 combat sport. In something like Blood Bowl, which has its participants fully engaged in the smallest details on the field, from every individual move and action. The League focuses on macro-strategies and the metagame; the actual matches are simulated, out of the hands of the TMs. TMs are responsible for nearly every other aspect besides the competition itself: the recruitment and appraisal of talent, establishing a relationship with all players and the team as a whole, hiring coaches, becoming the public 'face' of the team, and so forth. You might not be involved with the actual game-battle, but you will be seen as responsible for its outcome, whatever that may be.

*This game will start with a maximum of 6 active TMs. If after 4 or 5 in-game seasons everything is running smoothly, I may bump that number up to 8 or 9 TMs, but it's highly doubtful to get any larger than that. This game will have several Owners and Coaches, over a hundred Players, and then countless other miscellaneous NPCs that may appear, each of them with their own personality and goals. This game will be a large undertaking for me, but I fully intend to carry it out with the best of my ability. Even if the game is only feasible for 4 or 5 seasons, then I would like to think of it as a successful and educational venture for the TMs and myself alike.
If you would like to participate in this game without taking on the roles of a TMs, look down at the Chain of the Command and look at the selection for Fans, a special role for non-TM participants.

*On a similar note, the scale of this game means that it will not run quickly. If you were expecting daily or bi-daily matches, that will not be the case. This is not to say that most of the time nothing will happening, on the contrary. An aficionado of any sport or competitive activity will tell you that 80% of what matters happens before you get on the field or stage. It is off the field where your role and influence truly shines.

*I want to stress that this is intended to be a simulation instead of a more traditional game with a planned plot. I put all the players in place, but what happens to each of them is almost entirely dependent on the TMs. This to replicate the emergent storylines that appear in real sports, which would be quite boring if every match had 50/50 odds. Instead we get tales of long-standing dynasties facing off against battle-scarred underdogs, disrespected nobodies rising to great heights while simultaneously superstars tragically fall. This game will also be rife with all the drama and metagame that surrounds sports, from the heartwarming and humorous to the shocking and detestable. Even those who pay no attention to spectator sports can still remember the New England Patriots "Deflategate" Scandal or reports of widespread drug use among Russian Olympians. Similar newstories will inevitably appear in this game as well. It is not merely how often you win or lose, it is the legends to be built and immortalized.

*I would recommend skimming each of the spoilered sections instead of reading them one by one, to see if you enjoy what you see. There's a lot of text, some of it non-essential, especially in the first few seasons (years) of the League's existence.

*Having Discord is essential to this game. Major developments like matches, newsletters and announcements will be posted here, but all the small but numerous personal interactions will be handled in Discord. If every interview, meeting and discussion was posted on here, even in the form of multiple threads, they would all get severely clogged.

I want to test out some new mechanics, and practicing writing some good ole' fashioned fight scenes, so this is the result.

For now, there is no objective beyond fighting and surviving. For each kill you "Level Up" and gain an ability of your choosing, per my discretion. This can be a standard Fireball Spell or a Super Jump or Mind Reading, whatever you want. For each Level Up, you can upgrade an existing ability or gain a new one.

When you kill someone, you gain Half of their Levels. When you die and respawn, you start at half of your Level at death, rounding down. You will lose half of your total ability points at random, so if you respawn after dying at Level 6, you come back at Level 3 with 3 total Ability Points.

Standard D10 used for rolls. You can attack up to twice per turn, so long as someone is in your range. (Attacking Die and Defending Die Referred to as AD and DD respectively, henceforth.) If AD > DD, the attack is successful, and damage is dealt based upon the difference in the rolls as well as all the other factors in the fight: cover, armor, and so on. If AD < or = to DD, the attack fails. If AD < DD by a margin of 5, the defender  counter attacks. (Ex. AA of 3 vs. DD of 8, Defender counter attacks.) Counter Attacks are not be re-countered.

Surprise Attacks, are possible, in which you PM me something you want to launch unexpectedly the next turn, which remains unannounced until it unfolds the next turn. When you perform a Surprise Attack, you must succeed on a Stealth Roll against an opposing Perception Roll. If you succeed, the Surprise Attack occurs as planned. If the opposing Perception Roll is higher, your opponent gets a free Counter Attack. If both rolls are equal, no Surprise Attack occurs. This is to ensure that Surprise Attacks are powerful, but are not an ability that can be abused, which I have seen plague other arena games.

Numbers next to Status Effect denote how many turns the effect lasts for.

Once the number for Bleed-Out reaches 0, your character dies. The more bleeding wounds a character has, the faster the Bleed-Out process becomes. Several seemingly minor bleeding wounds, for example, can end up becoming a life threatening ailment.

Pain will be another common status effect. It confers harsh general penalties to rolls but usually lasts only one or two turns, outside of severe cases.

Unconscious characters can not roll for Defense, and can only attempt to wake up. They are at the mercy of their attackers until they regain consciousness, and can only hope their assailants are incompetent or get distracted.

Creative fighting is not mandatory, but it is encouraged.

Feedback is also encouraged, and the game will likely evolve over time.

Each fighter spawns in as a regular human in a shirt and pants with one starting item.

NPCs behave similarly to the Players, each having a unique name, inventory, and set of Abilities. NPCs do not have the goal of fighting everyone they see in an attempt to gain Levels, as they do not gain Levels for killing Players or each other. They do have varying personalities, so some might attempt to befriend players, others will tend to themselves, and others will try and stab the Players in the face whether it's for insanity or sport. The Level and Inventory of an NPC is always available, and Kill Absorption rules apply to them. The abilities of NPCs remain hidden until they are activate,d but the Level of their various abilities, as well as their total number of abilities, is always available.

Have fun!

And you stop sprinting, because there's no way he could be following you anymore. Jamie is relentless but he is slow, and you've eluded him by scrambling deep into the misty forest. With your pursuer out of sight, you hunker down behind a pine tree and process what had happened over the course of the last five minutes. Sally Fervixon, the darling debutante of the affluent family venerated throughout the central Tennessee region, had rented out the entire campsite of Lake Kerwosaki to throw a party celebrating the end of the school year. Sally sent an open invitation to high schoolers throughout the area, and for the first time everyone from the most popular preppies to the oddish outcasts would convene at one function to drink, dance and attempt to get lucky.

When Sally stepped out of the forest, everyone's eyes were fixated on her, some in awe, others in jealousy. A handful spotted the hulking humanoid figure tailing her from the rear, but their cries were too late. With one quick swing of a bludgeon, Sally was face down, the innards of her skull awash in the soil. Most of your peers, like yourself, took to running, some of the bravest and largest confronted Jamie as a group, and the masked entity battered through them like a MMA fighter mascaraing a kindergarten class.

Once you catch your breath, you realize that some sort of metal device with an electronic screen has been fastened to your left arm, extending from the bottom of your wrist down halfway your forearm. In the center of this module is a screen, displaying an electronic written passage:

The reign of Princess Celestia is over. The war has been won, with a pyrrhic cost.
Most Heroes and Gods are dead or gravely wounded. A power vacuum has allowed the most ambitious survivors to try and succeed the Sun Princess's throne. Of those, the old Titan Atlas has been freed from his literally earthbound prison and is forming his own empire on the blood of the nations that have been left depleted in morale and manpower from the last war.
A band of brave souls, seasoned heroes and fresh recruits alike, is forming to oppose the treachery of Atlas.
Are you a bad enough dude to save the world?

The ship enters the atmosphere of the planet, dominated by clear blue ocean peppered with unknown lands in its farthest corners. The Xenio and Kuch both come into view, actualizing out into physical forms, staring opposite one another like a sheriff and bandit dueling at high noon. An island, minuscule into comparison to either of the continents, makes its own appearance as the ship rapidly descends. It is twilight, but artificial sources of light on the island allow the entire urbanized area to be visible. Buildings sprout from the island, tall stony structures with gaping open holes, something uncommon to most cultures; the holes are the polar opposite of locked doors and shut windows, implying that anyone is welcome within their walls. The island is surrounded by a sheer cliff face on all sides, and beyond that fields of treacherous caltrops, defensive structures that would deter someone from invading the island, unless they were determined.

There is sudden turbulence as explosions rock the airspace around the ship. Anyone that looks out the windows sees not a surprise anti-aerial counter attack, but plums of colored light and smoke dancing among the clouds while a flock of balloons flutter around the exterior of the spacecraft; one of the piloting I.A. turns on a windshield in order to keep the balloons from obstruction their vision. The ship plants itself in the center of a major road, and the Cazadores step out to crowd of cheering snail-people, hundreds of them in every direction dressed in utilitarian uniforms of differing color.
"Looks like you guys got one heck of a welcoming party! ^_^"
During this time, the transportation ship closes up its doors and flies back off the planet.
A single Deniyan, indistinguishable from the others besides the fact that the crowd parts in order to let this individual through, walks to the front of the Cazadores with gusto, though even with confidence the Deniyan looked so squishy that you could pulverize him with a forceful hug, now it was of little surprise why this race were not inclined to warfare. "H-H'wo friends! The Free People of Deniya welcome you to our little nation! We hope that in your time here to spread peace, we can become great friends!" He offers the Cazadores a large cabbage, to which there is great applause and uproar. Denyians even sound squishy, with high pitched voices with a very wavering pitch.
"Ugh, how are you going to stand dealing with all of these silly sounding people? >-<" Squeaks Woodsworth.

You step through the shimmering portal left behind by Woodsworth, leaving your own universe for one in some faraway corner of time and space. Your destination ends up being a harshly white room with the aesthetic and tone of a bureaucratic waiting room, minus fundamental pleasures such as a place to sit, or office plants. The walls are uninteresting besides the Southern one, equipped with three porthole-sized windows that allow sight into the glittery recesses of space, utter darkness pocketed by stars and a single large planet, close enough to your position that you can make out weather formations, huge pillars of clouds moving across its surface, glistening with lights. To the North is a metal gate, separating you from moving any further within the ship, containing you as if you were a threat. Through two glass panels, you observe the orange glowing eyes of beings with flesh so dark you can't make out any further features on their faces. These must be the Iinsan-Ali that Woodsworth spoke of.

"Hiiiiii~! I'm so happy to see so many of you came! ^_^"

Speaking of Woodsworth, the holographic screen with green text appears within the room. An electronic bell, like a cell phone alarm clock, goes off.

"Implant process complete! Betcha' didn't even notice! Now you guys can communicate with each other on Missions! A možete razumjeti hrpa više jezika previše! Nije li to uzbudljivo?! :3"

Woodsworth flutters over to the metal gate, which promptly opens, revealing the full frontal view of the Iinsan-Ali, each coated head-to-toe in red metallic suits, their black hands clutching rifles the size of light machine guns. They stand rigidly, not having appeared to have made a single adjustment, even of their eyes, since your arrival. Beyond them is a corridor leading further into the ship.

"You are free to go where you like, with the exception of any door that explicitly warns of being off-limits! Everything has been prepared to you. And if you have any questions, just ask me! Weeeee~! ~_^"

Spoiler: Backstory (click to show/hide)

[Synopsis: The Multiverse is like a body, with each universe being a cell. The Miasma is like a viral disease that spreads through the universes through time-space corruptions called Anomalies, that when left unchecked will destroy the infected universe and spread to adjacent universes. You, the Cazadores, are the treatment for this virus.]

Guidelines, Rules and Advice:

I. Cazadore Fundamentals - A Cazadore is an individual employed by the Facilitators to seek out and destroy Anomalies before they dismantle the structure of a universe and spread further. Once the Facilitators have identified an Anomaly, a team of Cazadores will be sent to the effected universe to destroy it. Sometimes this requires a conventional method, such as the Anomaly possessing the form of a being which is to be called by the Cazadores. Other times, the Anomaly changes the course of the universe by altering crucial events, like a key figure never being born or causing an entirely new species to appear on a planet. The standardized rectification of Anomalies takes place in Missions. Most Missions are optional. Normally a mission consists of a Team of Cazadores being transported from the Ship via a wormhole-traversing rocket to a universe. Once the Mission Objective has been fulfilled or failed, the Cazadores return to the rocket to the Ship. Rewards are distributed based on behavior, efficiency, and individual contribution to the success of the Missions.

II. Welcome Aboard - When not on Missions, Cazadores spend most of their aboard the S.S. Espada de Dios, or La Espada for short. The ship is equipped with a full-range of living facilities and amenities for the Cazadores, including single and double dormitories with private bathrooms, a full-range kitchen, a gym and training facilities including a shooting range and V.R. Room, a state of the art laboratory, a recreation center, a library, a medical bay, a war room and a theater.
You'll regularly uniformed dark figures with glowing eyes around the ship. These are the Iinsan-Ali, beings somewhere between robot and truly sentient. They are the main staff on the ship, making up the majority of pilots, engineers, mechanics, nurses, cooks, maintenance workers and security. The Iinsan-Ali exist to serve and while they look intimidating, serve no threat to anyone not causing a major problem.
La Espada is equipped with an assortment of internal and external security measures, and since it is not a true warship these security measures are designed with self-defense in mind.

III. Dollar Dollar Bills Y'all - As previously stated, individual effort and positives results on Missions is rewarded tangibly with Zielons, a widely used inter-universal currency. The flat payout at the end of any Mission, successful or not, is $10,000, though impressive efforts will be paid even more. Zielons are the major currency on Uol St’rit’, the Jupiter-sized planet that La Espada perpetually orbits around. It's a quick trip from the ship to the surface of the planet, a bustling and ever-growing metropolis at the crossroads of several galaxies in the surrounding area. With over 86 billion inhabitants, (and even more living on its 43 planets) you're bound to find some place to spend your hard earned currency.
In addition to Zielons, excelling performances can also be rewarded with bonus Tokens, which can be spent on-ship at The Vendor. The Vendor specializes in selling containers for various Token prices that contain randomized results of a certain kind, such as Random Loot, Random Abilities, and Random Companions. Speak to The Vendor directly for details.
Zielons and Tokens are distributed regardless of a Mission's result.

IV. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - At the end of a successful Mission, each Cazadore on the Mission will receive Ability Points to improve their existing Abilities to create new ones; the number Ability Points offered by a Mission is based on its difficulty, and not revealed until the end of the Mission.
Abilities are the foundations of each Cazadore, unique to each of them and defining of their character and role. The two types of Abilities are Passive and Active, the former concerning Abilities that effect their user always or under specific circumstances while the latter cover Abilities that are consciously and deliberately performed.
When a Cazadore performs an Action without having an associated Ability, it is assumed that their skill and power-level for that action is equivalent to that of an average adult human being.

Each Cazadore starts with 5 Ability Points to do what they wish with. The creation of a new Ability costs 1 Ability Point, and upgrading to its next level costs the same amount of points as the new level. (Ex. Upgrading a Level 3 Ability to Level 4 takes 4 Ability Points.)

[Important Note: d10 is the default die used for this game.]

[Other Important Note: While the Abilities I list here are pretty blase and vague, it is best to describe an Ability as specifically as possible in what it does.]

Spoiler: Example Abilities (click to show/hide)

V. The Price of Failure - Beyond not receiving Ability Points, failed Missions usually result in the Anomaly taking over a universe, corrupting and consuming it and allowing the Miasma to spread to adjacent universes without restraint. Thus, subsequent Missions will likely be harder after a failed Missions due to an increased presence of Miasma and more powerful Anomalies. Failing several Missions in a row could spell catastrophe.

VI. We Can Rebuild Them! Probably. - Cazadores, due to the nature of their work, have a tendency to die. Contrary to popular belief, this is not the end of the world. La Espada is equipped with the medical technology to revive fallen Cazadore, as long as their Essence Organ is retrieved. What is an Essence Organ? Among all sentient beings, in one form of another, exists a physical space containing the vital portions of their person, what some would call the Soul. In human beings, this is the brain, whereas in a species like the Iinsan-Ali, it is a baseball-shaped organ underneath the sternum. The Magical Girls in the employ of the Incubators, an organization loosely associated with the Facilitators, keep their Essence Organ within Soul Gems, tiny shards that must be securely kept near them at all times. So long as at least a part of the Essence Organ is brought back to La Espada, the Cazadore can be restored in full form. Preferably the Essence Organ is not damaged because...

VII. These Wounds, They Will Not Heal - Because the Essence Organ at the forefront the Reconstruction process, if the Essence Organ is damaged, the Reconstruction will not be perfect. The Cazadore will be revived, but with one or more Flaws, permanent scars that act as the opposite of Abilities, creating persistent negative traits for the Cazadore. As of now, there is no known method to get rid of Flaws.

IX. Dead 4 Realz - And then there are times when not even the best medical treatment can bring a Cazadore back. Permanent Death occurs when the Essence Organ is totally destroyed. Additionally, there is a special type of Miasmatic damage known as Entropy. Entropy begins to appear at late, advanced stages of an Anomaly. There is no way to heal Entrophic wounds, so if you lose a limb to an Entropy-based attack, it will never return. And if your essence organ is hit by Entropy, we want you to know that your service as a Cazadore was greatly appreciated.

X. Anomalies are Literally Cancerous Memes - An astute person might ask, if there is a universe with an Anomaly, why just tell the inhabitants that there is an Anomaly so they can do whatever is necessary to destroy it? Based on past Missions, we've concluded that the Miasma is not only sentient enough to be aware of when it is mentioned, it is also Memetic and mentioning the Anomalies causes them to grow more malignant and develop in ways that nullify the original Mission Objective obsolete. It is for this reason we stress not bringing up the Miasma and its Anomalies to anyone outside of our organization.

XI. Am I the Only One Around Here Who Cares About the Rules? - Conflict among Cazadores is expected, even physical violence. The and ourselves will not intervene in inter-Cazadore conflict on La Estrada, as we expect the Cazadores to be able to resolve disputes among themselves, and organize and enforce any internal protocols, rules or systems that they organically develop for themselves. Damage to the Ship, its contents or its staff is not tolerated and will result in reprimand and punishment, ranging from verbal warnings and fines to lethal use of force in the most extreme cases. Purposely jeopardizing the Mission and overall goals of the Facilitators is strongly prohibited.

XII. Implants! - Upon entering the Cazadore program, each new person is implanted with a sub-microscopic chip which allows them to understand and fluently communicate in over 14 Trillion unique languages, as well as the ability to instanteously communicate with La Estrada and each other during Missions, similar to a headset system. The process of implanting is so instanteous you won't notice it. How are we able to put in implants into Cazadores that have irregular physiology or lack a true physical form? That is classified! Yay, Red Tape!

XIV. ^_^ - Further questions can be redirected to Woodsworth, who you've already met, the resident Facilitator on La Estrada.
Most importantly, just have fun! Just kidding! Most importantly, go forth and save the Multiverse valorous Cazadores! The only thing you have to fear is fear itself! And total annihilation!

[Keeping in line with previous games, established characters, expies and original characters are all equally accepted. Note that once a Universe is destroyed by the Miasma, no further characters can originate from that universe. As of the starting of this game, no established universes have been Miasma'd, so you do not have to worry about that in regards to playing as an established character.]

Hey.

You there.

Whatchu' doing? Playing RPG games on a forum? What do those games have? Plots? Character Development ? Standardized rules?

Sometimes it's fun to play those kind of games. I run some of them.

And sometimes you need to take your favorite video game/anime/movie/book/oc/whateverthefuckyouwant character and have them stomp some motherfuckers.

This is for that.

Welcome to the Fiesta y'all.

The main premise of this game is you making any character you want, and putting them in an arena to kill other characters while I get to do one of my favorite things as a GM and write elaborate and explicit details of the carnage.

*This is a casual arena game where you can be whatever character you want, literally whatever. A superhero, a historical figure, a terrible OC you designed in middle school, your dad, anyone. Your character spawns into an arena and their goal is to kill other characters 10 time without dying. Do this and they win. In the game, they receive one Dragon-Ball style wish for their victory, while you as a player will get to decide the location for the next battle.

*You're allowed to design your character as you see fit, but I have the right to balance them so they aren't ridiculously OP. The goal of this game isn't to prove who is the strongest character/best Mary Sue, it's for some crazy-ass fights to go down. I'm fine with you being a super strong guy, but I intend for this shit to be bananas, you're going to see Bob the Builder shanking Goku to death with a rusty screwdriver. Superman getting gnawed to death by anime hamsters. That's what we're talking about.

*Oh look, your character was just gruesomely eliminated. Time to get on the waitlist right? Nope, no waitlist, just say you want to respawn and next turn you will be back. The only penalty for death is resetting of your total Kill Count back to 0. Expect to kill and be killed frequently. Alternatively, you can make a new character and spawn them in instead. ~Do what you want~

*Also, no player cap until things get totally out of hand.

*For each kill your character gets they will receive an additional Ability from the Superpower Wiki. I can can define the limitations of these Abilities as necessary to prevent broken OP characters, so don't make your strategy to hope you randomly get the Omnipotence ability.

*A standard D10 will be used for all conventional rolls. Health will be kept track of in the abstract "Chunky Salsa" system instead of HP.

*Combat will be done in [X vs. Y] format, where X is the attacker and Y is the defender. If X>Y, the attacker does damage based mainly on the difference between X and Y, (A [8 vs. 3] roll is going to do much more damage than a [4 vs. 2]. Other factors come into play too like the weapon being used, shield/armor if the defender has any, the situation itself, etc. So the same roll would have a different outcome when applied to a normal punch and in a different instance, a giant plasma beam.) If Y>X, the defender is unharmed and will perform a basic counter-attack if possible. If X=Y, neither character is harmed.

*A character can perform up to two Actions a turn with no penalties. Fighting, using Abilities, Running to a distant part of the arena and Hiding are all examples of Actions. A character can perform unlimited actions but each additional action over two will be penalized, the third action will incur a -1, the fourth a -3, the fifth -5, etc.
*New Ruling*: Additional penalized actions during a turn, (ex. -1 for a third action, -3 for a fourth, etc.) no longer have the penalization applied to just that action, but all rolls during that turn. This means that if you performs four actions in a turn, you will receive a -3 to all rolls for the duration of that turn, including defending against attackers as well as -3 to counter-attacks as well.

Abilities:
Anyone can swing a sword or shoot a gun, this is the stuff that makes your character kick ass. They come in two forms:

Active: Using these Abilities takes up an Action. Examples:
Ki-Blast (Active) - Fires a ranged energy blast at an opponent that explodes on contact.
Slice N' Dice (Active) - Unleashes a rapid flurry of sword strikes on the opponent.
Cloak - (Active) Turn invisible. Can not attack while invisible, briefly turns visible if successfully hit by an opponent. 1 Turn Cooldown.
Machine Gun Funk (Active) - Completely empty out two guns on a maximum of 4 opponents. This Ability uses up 2 Actions.
Heal - (Active) Magically restore wounds on self or another character.

Passive: Are not "used" but activate under specific conditions.
Made of Iron (Passive) - All damage is slightly lessened.
Regeneration (Passive) - Heals a small amount of damage each turn automatically.
Impenetrable Mind (Passive) - Resistant to mental attacks.
Make the Devil Wait (Passive) - The first attack that would kill this character is negated.
Small (Passive) - This character is smaller than normal, giving them a +1 to all defensive rolls. However, successful hits damage them slightly more than normal.

Equipment:
Each character can bring in up to 3 pieces of equipment into battle. Like Abilities, if they are OP they will be adjusted. (If a piece of Equipment is overpowered, it can possibly be fixed by making it also have a negative value, or requiring the use of an Ability to wield it properly.) Looting a piece of Equipment from a dead character counts as an Action. Examples:

Katana - Cuts through flesh and bone like hot butter.
Assault Rifle - Combines accuracy, firepower and potential as a prop in a Rap video.
Gatling Laser Cannon - For when regular laser cannons aren't enough. After it has been used, requires a turn of Reloading to be used again.
Cursed Blade - An eerie black blade that glows with feint demonic energy. Doubles damage dealt as well as damaged received.
S.W.A.T. Armor - Does a decent job of protecting the wearer against low-caliber firearms and blades.
Wizard Hunting Armor - Greatly lowers the wearer's injuries from magical attacks.
Mystical Headband - This ordinary looking headband fills its wearer with enough energy for them to perform 3 Actions a turn without penalty and only a -2 penalty to 4 Actions. The Headband also causes them to become more forgetful, so they may only have 3 Abilities.

New players will still be accepted. As of now, there is no player limit.

No flairs or big exposition this time. Here's the plan; my previous games that have attempted to match the majesty of Harry Baldman's "History" RTD, a wonderfully ingenious mix of discovery and world-building have all failed pretty badly. I've realized that one factor in this is how much of the world I create before the player's have even stepped in, which does not aid in the whole "player-based world-building" part of this game style. So this time around I will just focus on quick and easy starts that will get you, the players, on the road to helping map out the setting and creating your own individual legacies for other players.

Premise:
You are among a group of new arrivals to a new land. Your reasons for your character's arrival and their motives are completely up to you. Regardless of what the game's initial starting point ultimately is, the consistent element will be Discovery, in which through exploration your characters will discover everything from new landmarks and structures to flora, fauna, perhaps even new civilizations. I will not take charge in designing these discoveries, it will be up to the discovering players to describe what they have discovered! For example, on your travels, you come across a new plant. Rather than having me tell you what this plant is, you and whomever your exploratory party is will get to decide what the qualities and habits of the plants are. For major discoveries, I may have to get a consensus from all active players for a description; after all, having a single person decide what a new continent or thriving civilization is can be quite disastrous if their ideas are unpopular. Discoveries are not limited to exploring the outside world, as they can range from everything from a Scientist discovering a new chemical mixture to a Chef discovering a new recipe or a means to make food, even someone like a Bard or a Musician can discover a genre!

Rolls will be handled through a simple d10+Relevant Skills and can be altered depending on the situation in which an Action is carried out. Opposing/Combat rolls will be handled by d10+Relevant Skills vs. d10+Relevant Skills.

Vote for a Starting Setting *CLOSED*:

Here you can vote in two areas, Time Period and Environment, denoted by numbers and letters respectively. Note that the starting Environment will most likely not encompass the entirety of the game, ex., just because you start out in a Desert does not mean there are different lands beyond it, though it might be a vast Desert and seemingly endless at first.

1. Dawn of Civilization - You are part of a tribe that has recently become acquainted with the art of agriculture. Primitive Tech.

2. The New World - You are a passenger on a ship sailing from a continent of war and pestilence to what is hopefully a new start in a bountiful, exotic new land. Renaissance Tech.

3. Age of Imperialism - You are a citizen of a powerful nation that has been sent out to start a colony on newly claimed land. Industrial Revolution Tech. Mid-19th Century Tech.

*Winner* 4. The Final Frontier - You are part of the first colony sent out to populate what has been determined to be a livable planet. Future Tech.

5. The Rebirth of Man - You are one in a band of survivors that has made it through a catastrophe that most people did not. Now, you seek to reclaim the Earth or at least eek out a new life. (May include mutants.) Apocalyptic Tech.

A. Forest - The land is filled with life from massive, hardy trees to omnipresent grass and shrubs and a thriving community of wildlife. The weather is standard with hot, wet summers and cool, dry winters.

B. Jungle - Even richer than the forest, the jungle is more exotic and beautiful, yet also more mysterious and deadly. Life and death seem to lurk around every corner. Weather is rainy and humid.

C. Plains - Rolling grasslands that are so flat that you can see for miles. The weather and wildlife are tame here, but there is a scarcity of precious materials like wood and metal. Weather is fair.

D. Mountains - The soil is rough and the land is treacherous and jagged. Plants and animal are scarce and tough. You won't find a better place to collect stones or ore. Weather is cool tends to be either tame or violent.

*Winner* E. Swamp - There's an abundance of animals, water, and trees to harvest, which is nice. Then again, most of the animals could kill you, and the water and trees are natural breeding/hiding places for everything from mosquito and spiders to snakes and alligators. Maintain your settlement well or it could easily be all ogre. Weather is constantly humid.

F. Desert - If you hate supplies, happiness and general livability then you'll be right at home in the desert! It's not that the desert is inhospitable, it just tries its best to be. Perhaps you could stumble upon an oasis, a river, or even one of the treasures said to be buried in deep in the desert. After all, there has to be a reason people live here, right? Weather is dry and hot.

G. Tundra - Like the desert, except on the opposite end of the spectrum. Unlike the desert, there are trees here as well as wildlife that tends to be quite fat and furry. Snow and ice can be harvested as a resource. Weather is dry and cold.

Character Sheet:
Name: (Does not have to be your birth name if your character would have it that way.)
Gender: (The group may have gendered roles, though this will ultimately be up to the group.)
Age: (Children will only start with one Skill rather than two, while Elders can start with three but will also battle against the ailments of old age. The ages at which "Child" and "Elder" are defined is dependent upon what the Setting is.)
Skills: (Each character is allowed to start with 2 Skills which they will receive a +2 towards when performing relevant Actions. Over time, these Skills can be sharpened and new Skills can be learned. The more specialized a Skill is, the faster it can be learned and improved.)
Artifact: (Each character is allowed to bring 1 Item from home. This can be whatever you wish, though I will note if any adjustments must be made.)
Backstory: (Optional. Can be however long or short you wish.)

oh man
oh man
oh man not again

You Be Drake.

You got kicked out of the rap game because you lost to a filthy casual rapper who snatched your girl (or your girl snatched him it was ambiguous).

You have been shamefully exiled out of Toronto.
Canada is in ruins after the death of her king.

But you always wanted to be a a wizard man instead of a rapper anyways so it's not a big deal.

Fill out your application to wizard school:

Codename: Obviously, no school is going to let you in if they know that you are Drake, (or more accurately, 'Fallen Drake'.) Choose a codename that sounds realistic enough to pass off as real but not so generic that it appears like an obvious cover up. Suggestions would be names like "Tom Brady", "New England Patriots Star Quarterback Tom Brady", "Bom Trady" and "Hikoshomia No Sakura Tom Brady-San Gaiden Kawaii Desu".
Specialization:
Signature Wizard Spell:
Favorite Rapper: Probably don't want to say Drake.
Ice Cream Or Cat:
Fake Backstory: Probably don't want to talk about growing up in the '6'. (6 = Code for Toronto for some goddamn reason)

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Post-History: Freeform RPG; Revival
« on: April 04, 2015, 02:50:36 pm »
Taking after Harry Baldman's "History" RTD and it's spiritual successor My own "\Legends/", post-history is a free form game that takes place in the post-Apocalypse future (with a healthy deadly dose of influence from the Fallout game series). This type of game specializes in exploration, history-building and the ability for players to have great freedom in influencing the game world.

What You Need To Know:
1. Nuclear war has ended civilization.
2. You survived in a Fallout Shelter.
3. The Fallout Shelter burned down. You escaped.
4. The rest is up to you.
5. You can create your character and post your first action now.

Spoiler: Story (Optional) (click to show/hide)

TL,DR: Countries got really mad at each other, everyone freaks out. Player characters got spots in a Fallout Shelter in the Cascade Mountain Range in the Washington/British-Columbia later. Lived there for 8 years, a giant fire happened, most people died, about a hundred people escaped. Game start takes place with these escaped survivors just hanging out in the forest, unsure of what to do next.

Character Creation:

Name:
Gender:
Age: (Minimum of 14)
Occupation: (If you held no occupation in the shelter, list whatever your main hobby or general activity was. This will influence what roll bonuses you get to start out with, and starting equipment.)
Artifact: (This is any single item you brought while fleeing from the shelter. It can be whatever you want, as long as it's feasible. For balancing reasons, very powerful Artifacts may be weakened. [For example, if you brought an Assault Rifle with you, it would become a Damaged Assault Rifle.])
Brief Biography: (Can be however long you prefer, from a single sentence to multiple paragraphs.)

Inventory: (Do not put anything here. This will be filled when your character is accepted.)
Health: Normal (Do not change this either.)

Character List:
(You can jump back in immediately if your character dies by making a new character. A waitlist may be put in place if an exceeding amount of players join.)

I'm not going to bore y'all with details, but life's been rough and hectic, and I know that doesn't make my situation any more special than most people on here who have issues to deal with and resolve. But I'm at a point where I can't run 4 or 5 games simultaneously like I had the opportunity to once do. I think my month-long absence has run all of my "active" games to a halt, and I doubt any of them will come back. I'd like to start anew, and try something I haven't done in a long time; run a single game and focus my efforts on it. Since I am recovering from a burn-out, it will likely be something simplistic just to get me in the groove of things once more. If I'm feeling very adventurous, I might end up running a staggering 2 games simultaneously in the future.

So yeah, R.I.P. my last batch of games, they were a pleasure to GM, and also very time-consuming. They may make returns in the future, (things look particularly good for Wiki-Warfare, since it was a fan favorite to the point where it got it's own spin-off game, and was pretty easy for both myself as a GM and players.)

My idea for a new game was going to be in the style of Harry Baldman's "History RTD" and my successive spiritual sequel to it. So if that sounds interesting, stay tuned.

"That motherfucker don't know when to stop beating on a dead horse does he? Goddamn."
- Leopold Ignaz Joseph Balthasar Felician, Holy Roman Emperor, regarding Game Master T.upac C.alligraphy M.asta' and his constant rebooting of games.

Remember this game guys? Maybe? No? Oh, that's okay. I'm bringing it back, because even though it never got far, it's still a fun-ass concept, if I say so myself.

Now, I feel that the last two attempts at this game failed because despite this game centering around Player VS. Player Combat, (or just PvP conflict in general, as many players had abilities that extended beyond the realm of combat) there was little incentive to actually engage other players. Well, I've come up with such an incentive:

*New Gameplay Addition!*

In this game, players gain Items and Abilities based on five completely Random Wikipedia Articles. In previous games, these were permanent for the duration of a single game until the next. This time, things are different: For each player you incapacitate, you will gain another Random Wikipedia Article. This provides incentive no matter how your initial luck is: If you start out with a load of good Items and Abilities, you can steamroll through other players to rack up even more to become the dominant and most threatening character. Inversely, if your five starting Articles suck, why not kill a couple other players for a chance at getting something good?

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT GAMEPLAY ADDITION: 48-hour time limit between updates!

Gameplay:

The goal of this game is to incapacitate all of the other players to the point where they can not incapacitate you back. The simplest way to achieve this goal would be to kill the other players, or put them in a comatose/long-term K.O.'d state, but there are other viable methods including complete subduction or damage to one's mind to the point where they can't even cognitively function well enough to be a proper contender anymore. The last player remaining will be the Champion.

The Game runs on a 10-Sided Die system for completing actions, so a Rolled 10 will result in the complete satisfaction of the intended action, whereas a 1 will result in the direct opposite. Everyday simple actions require no rolls. Things like climbing a ladder, breaking down a door or hacking through an electronic lock, will.

Each player receives 5 Items and Abilities, based on 5 Random Wikipedia Articles loaded for them. Abilities have some sort of effect on the player, oftentimes a modifier to certain types of rolls, or access to a non-standard ability. For example, a Random Article on a Baseball Player may give the player a +2 to actions involving the use of Baseball Bats or similarly-shaped Club-type items. Most nouns will simply give the player a certain amount of an item. Getting Graphite may have them simply starting out with a sack full of Graphite.
[Note: In the current addition of the game, I will only use Articles that have enough content to get me something specific. This is to prevent what happened in previous games, where all the 3-sentence articles about obscure Basketball and Football Players caused everyone to have similar Abilities.]

But won't this result in huge disparities, with one player starting with an assault rifle, another with Telekinesis, and another with a pogostick? Of course, that's what makes this fun! Be creative, that's why the goal is to Incapacitate, not just Kill. A player can be blessed with getting the Article for Immortality, but that makes them far from unbeatable.

In general, most Articles will work like this:

-Organisms, People, Fictional Characters, and Mythological/Religious Entities will give the Player an Attribute based on their own abilities and habits.
-Locations will give Abilities based on what they're known for, ex., Detroit would give its player a +2 to actions involving automobiles.
-Items will mostly result in the player starting with one or more of them on-hand, depending on their function, size, etc.
-Concepts, Theories and Abstractions will give Abilities based on their general subject. A player with Pragmatism will get an ability to disprove untestable impossibilities, ex., nullifying the magical powers of another player.
-Miscellaneous Articles will result in...something. Eh, I'll figure it out. This game is Bollocks enough already.

Abilities aren't inherently bad, but may carry risky side-effects, or could simply be almost useless.

The location of the game will be the first Random Article I get to that could physically hold all of the players simultaneously. This location will serve as the boundary for the game's first 3 Turns, after which the boundary will dissipate. The location could vary from a cruise ship, to the entire country of Moldavia, to a gas station in Central America, to Al Capone's Jail Cell, etc.

So that's it. If you want in, simply say so.

Your next few steps grant you entrance into the jungle, the canopy acting as a shield against the radiant sun. The foliage is denser than anything you'd seen before, or even imagined. Ferns caress your ankles, leaves brush against your shoulders. He's already ahead of you, his machete swinging around him like a pendulum, slicing through the fauna like they were practice dummies made out of straw. He flashes that grin to you, the grin that elicits feelings of both annoyance and security. He knows what he's doing. "City cat like you hasn't seen this type of shrub before, aye'?" His muted blonde hair and accent are of somewhere both exotic and familiar, but you haven't bothered to ask for his origins yet. He's just your guide after all. "Well, what are you waiting for? You cahn't stand there, we're burning sunlight out here!" You follow him because after all, you must. How else...?

Name: Your name of course.
Gender: Male or Female.
Age: Most likely somewhere between 13 and 65, anyone outside that range isn't fit to go through the jungle.
Appearance: Anything from a sentence to a paragraph concerning your physical traits would be fine.
