DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A browser fortress designer - Can't find!
« on: November 26, 2012, 04:00:17 pm »
I remember a while ago, I used some browser thing that allowed you to make complex fortress design using tools, then exporting it, probably for use with quickfort.

My memory may be hazy, but I THINK it was for dwarf fortress. Can anyone help me find it?

DF Gameplay Questions / Eating sentient beings.
« on: May 05, 2012, 07:54:32 pm »
What's the raw for it? I want my dorfs to eat all these animalmen roaming around.

Hunting is one of my favorite jobs, but the last updates introduced a lot of humanoids, which I cannot hunt and eat.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Gremlins on embark.
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:53:07 pm »
This is my first time playing after the necromancer update, so I might be a bit behind.

However, upon embark, I was offered Gremlins as pets. 1 point each. Naturally, I took 15. Now I have a bunch of them running around.

They're getting thirsty though. How do I get them to drink?

Also it's raining repellant mucus. I hope it's not more fun than I can handle.

DF Gameplay Questions / Bringing water to a flying fortress.
« on: September 02, 2011, 09:16:06 pm »
Well, sorta. Its still held up by a pillar. But you know what I mean.

I just want my farms somewhere convenient. Stuff can grow on constructed floor right? I'd just need a bit of mud, which would be fairly easy to get if I could make a pond. Pretty sure that's impossible since it lacks channels.

I'd rather avoid pump stacks as well.

DF General Discussion / Dwarf Fort Steam Group?
« on: September 02, 2011, 09:03:45 pm »
I don't know if this exists already. I had a bunch of friends that played DF once. We'd gather in a steam group chat room to complain about nobles, forgotten beasts, goblins and help each others. Great times were had.

If there isn't one already, it could be fun.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Playing as a Bronze Colossus.
« on: August 20, 2011, 08:27:19 pm »
I've heard people did it, but I don't know much about RAW editing.

How would I do this? I want to explode people into bits and smash elves into paste.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Stuck in an empty pool.
« on: August 20, 2011, 01:19:06 am »

Basically, I was walking around the world map when it told me I was feeling uneasy. I spawned in this... place. With apparently no way out.

I can't fast travel because I am feeling uneasy, I can't sleep because I am feeling uneasy. And I don't think whatever's making me feel weird is coming to meet me.

What do?

DF Gameplay Questions / Ghosts, geese and lag.
« on: August 16, 2011, 05:57:42 pm »
Three problems here.

First up is ghosts. I embarked near a volcano and started building. Made a bridge connected to floor. Turns out flooring can be built next to a bridge, but won't stick. Thus, several cave-ins sent my dorfs down into the bowels of earth, through the volcano.

I reclaimed the fortress and now they're haunting me. I tried making slabs but I can only engrave one name. There's still two of them remaining.

Now geese. There's a couple of them hanging out 100z levels over my fortress, doing nothing. They've been there for a year and no other animals will visit my fortress as long as they stay there. My hunter obviously can't reach them. How do I kill these assholes.

And then, lag. I used to be constantly worried about FPS death, but disabling temperature completely fixed this. I'd get 100 fps with 80 dorfs no problem. Right I have 40 dwarves and my FPS began dropping dramatically. I'm suspecting ghosts (Since they used to rape FPS) but other than that I don't know.

DF Suggestions / Allow catapults to shoot anything.
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:44:46 pm »
Sure, we're never gonna run out of rocks, but they didn't mind back in ye days of old.

Just think about the possibilities. You could throw goblin parts back at goblins. Throw elf giblets at elves. Throw food at the sucky migrants starving outside. Or cats that are on fire. Or barrel of booze into fire.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Boatmurdered in D&D
« on: May 07, 2011, 02:00:35 pm »
I don't know if anyone else did it before, but I plan to play a game of Dungeons and Dragons.

With 7 dwarves.

In Boatmurdered.

I honestly don't know a lot about D&D, but for what I know, this could be very possible. No mages allowed, since wizards don't exist. One doctor, one ambusher, one legendary cheese-maker, and 4 dwarves with random assortment of stupid weapon combination. Each of them very addicted to alcohol, and with an abysmal intelligence score.

Sent to reclaimed Boatmurdered, many will die to Elephants, demons and other Eldritch Abominations.

But I ask you, what else could we meet there? What could happen?

I'll make sure to tell you guys about it when this game starts.

DF Gameplay Questions / Farm problems, Farmers not planting anything.
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:27:09 pm »
It happened to me before. I asked about it in the small questions thread but was not answered.

Now it's happening to me again. I have several different plots. One for yearly plump helmets, one for 3/4 quarry bushes, one for cave wheat, one for pig tails. The off seasons are usually filled with dimple cups more plump helmets.

Then I have the outdoor farm. Strawberries, longland grass and others I don't remember.

After a while, plots stop working. Farmers began ignoring my main plump helmet plot, standing idly in my meeting hall with "no job" although the plot was empty and seeds were abundant. Then they moved on to ignoring other underground plants. I will mention again that I am overflowing with seeds. There are about 4 barrels full of seeds next to the farms and my Quern has millions.

Right now my 1st aboveground farm plot says "no seeds available for this eason", although I have plenty and my other plots seem fine.

DF Gameplay Questions / Macro Misfire.
« on: March 29, 2011, 02:03:26 am »
I just made a macro to quickly reproduct a bedroom floor. When I tested it, I made an error and had my cursor in a wrong spot. I tried to cancel the macro using esc but it all went to hell.

The macro kept going in the esc menu, went in my bindings and went absolutely insane, quickly changing multiple keybindings too fast for my eyes to see. It ended up in the Sound options, and I can't exit it because ESC seems to have been binded to something else.

Is there a way I can see my current keybindings, or even change them while staying OUT of DF?

I don't exactly want to close DF because I haven't saved in a while.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / I hope this guy won't become a mayor.
« on: March 29, 2011, 01:42:23 am »
I'd hate to see the mandates.

There's also the fact that she adopts every cat born in the fortress the second they are born.

DF Suggestions / Ambassadors.
« on: March 27, 2011, 03:17:00 pm »
Maybe it has been suggested before? Perhaps it could fit in with the caravan arc.

If your civilization is at peace with another race, they could send an ambassador once your fortress is deemed worthy.

The ambassador would be a permanent, non-laboring citizen of the fortress. Much like nobles, they would require decent rooms but would not mandate anything. Once they are settled in, it would be possible to send your mayor discuss with them, and change the goods you require form their caravan ( provided the caravan is not coming soon) even after the liaison is gone. It would also be possible to send gifts to their monarch or discuss peace treaties should you end killing one too many caravans. The elf could warn you when you are about to reach your tree quota ( Not that anyone cares).

In their free time, the ambassadors would hang around the meeting hall, waste booze and food, or remain in their quarters. Human and dwarven ambassadors could also spend some free time sparring with your military.

It would also be cool if these ambassadors could share some of its race specialties, such as humans teaching your dwarves how to use exotic weapons, elves teaching you how to make wooden armor, and dwarven ambassador from other civs could teach you how to make tongas and skirts, or things that is not available from the start.

Of course, killing the ambassador wouldn't be very appreciated.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Injured dwarves, massive sieges and lag.
« on: March 23, 2011, 09:19:13 pm »
A short while ago I fought the greatest siege I have ever seen ( Several dozens of goblins mounted on crocos and other damnable animals).

To my surprise, we managed to survive with minimal casualties, even though all of my plans failed horribly. Long story short, not many people died, but many were wounded.

Now I'm stuck with 8 people in the hospital, many with broken bones and several infections, one too injured to do anything that keeps spamming job cancellations, And there's a migrant locked up in jail crying for food and water but that's another story.

Now my questions are :

1. What are some easy ways to prevent infection? I heard soap works but is a terrible choice due to several bugs involving animals. My well water is muddy so that might account for something.

2. How can I get that guy to shut up. Hopefully without killing him. He's pretty good.

And somewhat unrelated but best kept in a single topic :

1.What are some good armor combination for dwarfs? I saw a guy wearing two iron chain mail shirts, but no breastplate. I'm a bit puzzled.

2. My FPS is dropping at the speed of something falling really fast. I barely have 100 dwarfs and a few lions roaming around freely in the fortress. I'd really hate to start this fortress over again due to FPS death.
