DF Gameplay Questions / Bolts out of nowhere?
« on: October 29, 2012, 05:37:58 pm »
I noticed that recently a forgotten beast was being hit by bolts/arrows in a combat report, but the text was grey (not my dwarf fighting), and there were no other combat reports. So basically it looked like arrows were flying out of nowhere to hit the thing.

Can ambushers shoot and remain stealthed?

DF Gameplay Questions / Wielding backpacks?

Is there any way to make dwarves equip weird items like backpacks and metal boots as weapons in the current version?

Apparently our new group is called the Puzzling Summit. It's confusing how they obtained this title.

A silly fortress based on throwing ice at enemy invaders while avoiding the evils of kitchens, crossbows, and traps. This is my second time playing legends of forlorn realms. Feel free to ask to be dwarfed and/or suggest things to do.

Do creatures actually avoid running into fire now? There's nothing on it in the wiki, and this may explain why the siege refuses to charge.

DF Gameplay Questions / The earring has been missing for a week.
« on: October 22, 2012, 02:04:08 pm »
Alright. So my planter was unhappy for a long time so one day she decided to go fell but since she was carrying a baby on her back she took the baby to create an earring out of but now it says the baby has been missing for a week and since the baby corpse is now an earring I don't know what to do since I don't want to wait until a ghost pops up my dwarves might get pissed and tantrum spiral or something and nobody seems to realize that the earring is the baby also it's kinda funny that the mother is happy.

tl;dr Fell mood, dwarf kills own child, child is now reported "Missing for a week" despite child-bone earring sitting in the butcher's shop. What should I do? D:

EDIT: While I'm asking questions, I might as well know this for future incidents with fireballs:
If nobody witnesses the incineration of a dwarf, how do I put it to rest before a ghost appears?

DF Gameplay Questions / Water pressure changes?
« on: March 20, 2012, 01:11:59 pm »
I remember if water used to flow through a diagonal, it would de-pressurize. However, when I do that now, it just floods my place (more slowly). How would I achieve a similar effect in the latest version?

DF Gameplay Questions / No dwarves in houses (adventurer)
« on: March 17, 2012, 01:57:32 pm »
Happened twice now, no dwarves? I began as a dwarf, no dwarves. I can start as humans on another world with humans just fine, but twice in a row, no dwarves? I can't talk to the frog men inhabitants (fortress defense. Yes, the human world was also fortress defense.), but they're in the apparently dwarven houses..?

March 17th, 2012:
Link to save

This fort has gotten a little boring for me. But, there could still be fun in it for some people, so I'm turning it into a succession game.

As before, no digging. You play spring to spring, although it doesn't matter if you're a little off. There must always be wagon access to the inside, and try to avoid game breaking exploits (past what's already happened unintentionally). Take as long as you want as long as you keep us updated and don't mysteriously disappear.

Why'd I turn this into a succession?
I planned to at some point, when I got bored of the fortress really. For me, right now, the military is nigh immortal and our only problem is a booze shortage (just an annoyance). It's gotten to that point where there's nothing left to do but wait, for me at least. So, since there's been at least a little interest in a succession, I'll open it up and see what other people want to do with the fortress. Maybe things will get more interesting once the fiend spiders and nightwings arrive, who knows. But, if you watch me keep a log of what happens until then, it'll probably be pretty boring. So, let's open this up!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How to kill a prone enemy?
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:41:14 pm »
So I've been playing a jelly assassin adventurer (my weird nickname for sneaky archers), and have had problems finishing prone enemies. I can execute them with a bash to the head if they're unconscious, but just being prone (like, I shot them in the foot) leads to all my arrows missing them, even when I lie down myself. Is there any effective way to kill them without close range combat?

DF Gameplay Questions / Completely impractical, yes. Possible?
« on: March 11, 2012, 06:19:02 am »
So my friend was joking about how enough bolts will turn enemies into bone by tearing off the flesh. Now, this doesn't exactly happen at the moment. But, when he said the sheer weight of the bolts, I thought of something.

Creatures slow down when carrying weights, right? So what if you shot enough bolts into something (and had them stuck in, therefore in their inventory) to the point that it slows down dramatically just from the weight of the bolts it was carrying?

Do you think this is possible?

DF Community Games & Stories / I'm back! Ashiomom- The Wondrous Realm
« on: March 07, 2012, 12:08:19 pm »
So after an extremely long break awaiting the new update (didn't even check back, so turns out I've been gone much longer than that), I'm back! It's been a while since I've actually played, so I thought it might be interesting to keep a log my new fortress(s) (and maybe adventurers)- all in one world. Ashiomom, "The Wondrous Realm". Screenshots of random events may come up in large posts sort of like photo albums, since I'm finding making screenshots very tedious. The world is a quick generated medium high civilizations frequent minerals, and my only modding is no skill/attribute decay and dwarven longswords. Well then, let's begin!

Table of contents:
Woundstone Chapter 1
Woundstone Chapter 2

Yes, the name was actually randomly generated.

Anyway, I've been sick of getting constant crashes with starwound, along with the slimelands mod in general. Maybe some day I'll go back to it, but for now, I'm making this fort with a mod I know doesn't crash: fortress defense. Along with a few modifications like multiplying the goblin/frogmen sieges by 5 and adding longswords to dwarves. The story is mainly from the point of view of Urist Wheelstrumpets, starting from his birth. It's been going on for a year or two of quietness before that though, not much has happened. Ask if you want a dwarf.

Current list of dwarves:
Cheveux (weaponsmith)
Dsarker (doctor/armorer)
Katana (military commander)

1st Hematite

5th Hematite

Loud noises down below. Screaming...

OOC: damn, was planning to capture that helmet snake to begin a helmet snake army

8 Malachite

More screaming... And crying.
OOC: damn, that guy was head of charcoal making and engraving.

Katana's diary

DAMNIT! HOW COULD I LET SOMEBODY DIE! Stupid wildlife. That giant bat just flew in and decided to attack all of us for no reason! The caverns we just found are dangerous... Everything spotted will be killed on sight for now to be safe, and some cage traps and a door are being set up.
It's strange how we haven't been attacked by any invaders. All the mountainhomes were already destroyed, only one was left. Yet nothing's attacking us... Weird. We're getting ready anyway. Dsarker and Cheveux have been making loads of stuff to practice, and we've ended up with quite a few masterpieces from both.

Is there any way to make dwarves still go to meeting areas if they have their own rooms?

In a recent migrant wave, two children have arrived with the same father, but no mother. For both of them, the other isn't listed in relationships at all. Is this normal?

DF General Discussion / How were the languages created?

How were all the languages created? I'd search, but I honestly have no idea what to search for.
