General Discussion / Bans seem a bit out of hand...

isn't it sad that when talking about bans on this site it's as though someone died because nearly all if not all entirely seem to be perma bans? i get that with the traffic here it's incredible that only 2 admins run this whole forum but that more speaks to having more moderators then just swinging the ban hammer like guard captain in the middle of failed mandate season.

quite honestly i do expect to be banned for this thread and thank armok for floating IP's. im' not taking the piss out of Three Toe or Toady One, i'm just being honest.

i love the mayday tile set but i have been stuck on .21 coz it's just not updating! is there something im missing or did mike just not notice we are at a stable release (well stable ish) and new updates arnt weekly for a short while?

DF Suggestions / Making doctors useful.

there are only 3 ways for a doctor to see any work in the game:
hostile creature injures a dwarf
pet spazzes and injures a dwarf
and (lets face it) player incompetence.

a good or tedious player will never see a doctor used and even a !!fun!! loving player will see very little use for a hospital and medical staff. it's almost easier to leave your dorfs to their misery when they get injured and a fort can easily survive with no medical care.

i propose a simple solution to this. accidents, not noble accidents but genuine everyday accidents.
Urist McClumsy has fallen down the stairs
Urist McMason has chissled his own hand
Urist McDrunk climbed a statue and fell off
Urist McSmelter has received burns

so why not? dorfs are proven to already lack basic survival skills. having a chance for dorfs to wind up in hospital would make it much more necessary and give more skill to doctors for wounded milta, ect really needed attention.  other ideas to expand on non combat/serious mining accident related visits would be illnesses and child birth. illnesses could even come form vermin in the food stores or contaminated water.

Playing .21 i was making some earthenware items, glazing them, and so on. i got some remarkably useless milk quartzite so i decided to use burrows to force the encrusting of my junk trade good. i haven't done many yet but a earthenware ring now seem to be actually MADE form milk quartzite.

This is an exceptional milk quartzite ring.


also i encrusted a large gem with milk quartzite, duno how as i am told it's impossible but it's done.

DF Gameplay Questions / Hens not laying

start off with 2 hens and a rooster, use the hens to produce some chicks. the hens apparently hate parenthood and wont lay any more eggs or claim a new nest box when i destroyed the old...

also i have separated the chicks to another room so there is no crowding.

how best to specify materials for production? i would like to be able to in workshop profile specify what materials they can use for their jobs.

an example being removing fungi wood form all of my carpenters shops and making it so my jeweller only use valuable metals (gold, silver, brass) for encrusting labours. that way i don't have to worry about diamond encrusted wooden chests.
