 I recently overhauled my Challenge Generator for Dwarf Fortress with a bunch of new features (and games). I know how the bay12 forums loves a challenge and would love to see the results of some of the Dorfs over here tackling some challenges.

Tilesets and Graphics / Using Pheobus 0.34 with DF2014

So I was impatient to use DF2014 with Pheobus and tried the old version of the tileset out with the new version of Dwarf Fortress.

Initially trees were not working correctly so I fiddled with it a bit and got it working. I've packaged the result up with Pheobus installed and working nicely with trees.

The tileset assembler is included and worked perfectly for me.

The problem was overwriting the new RAWs with the old ones included in Pheobus, also running the init modifier bat broke things as well.

Note: Sand looks a little weird (the solid yellow walls in the first image) and roots and certain branches are displayed using gems. This isn't great but is just how the current tileset works. It still looks much nicer than empty, black space.

Just wanted to post this in its own thread so it didn't get buried in the Pheobus thread and people checking in can get started right away. I'll label this post as out of date as soon as Pheobus gets a proper update.

DF General Discussion / Dwarf Fortress command line world gen on osx

So I found the instructions for using the command line options for generating worlds and tried running using it on osx. However whenever I try it it just opens the game as if I'd ran it with no parameters.

I've tried using iTerm as well as the built in terminal. The command I'm using is:

./df -gen 2 RANDOM CUSTOM

Anyone know the problem? I suspect it just might not be supported on osx, the wiki only mentions linux and windows.

I'm currently working on a how to play section and implementing a section for longer stories.

Tales from the Fortress is a new site that allows you to share, read, rate and comment on stories from the world of dwarf fortress.

I created it with the goal of creating a site that people can be pointed to when they want to show someone why dwarf fortress is awesome. Plus they can also find guides and tutorials once they get hooked.

Feedback is much appreciated.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ghostly necromancer

So, I've got a ghostly necromancer haunting my fortress. He can raise the dead still, much to my horror. And won't go away. I can't engrave a slab for him, nor can I risk going outside to get his corpse. If I can even find it that is...

Anyone else encountered this and if so, what did they do?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Sewers in towns

So, I'm at what I think is the sewer entrance, in the middle of the fort in a town. There is a hatch on the floor and I just can't open it.
Anyone know how?

Also there is a set of stairs that I cannot climb, no matter what direction I attempt to go up it from.
I'm quite confused...

Whilst really fucking cool that they swarm.

They dropped my fps from 170 to 55. Will they ever fuck off?

DF General Discussion / Are the dwarves all dead?

So I've genned two worlds now. A 300 year world for each, large and medium. In each when I try to embark as an adventurer I get given the options human, elf and goblin. But no dwarf.
The first time I just assumed all the dwarves were dead.
Now I'm wondering if it's an adventure mode bug. Especially when I try to embark on the fortress mode and the empire of each civ is spread across large amounts of land on the map. I'm unsure if this might include old dead fortresses however.


So, is this a bug? Or should I keep genning worlds?

DF Gameplay Questions / De-stagnating water?

Okay, so I've got a seemingly stagnant water river. I have a tunnel coming off that via a diagnal to reduce pressure. It has a floodgate to regulate intake.
I had a 1-zlevel drop to get the water at the right height, then pumped it out of this trench back into the tunnel. There is no mixing of the water. It then drops down a z-level into a pit 1 z-level below. It then fills that up, then fills up the level above it to create a 2 z-level deep cistern with the tunnel at the same level as the top z-level of the cistern.

Water drawn via a well from this is still stagnant. According to the wiki the pump should make the water clean but it hasn't, this is driving me nuts. :(

DF Gameplay Questions / Subterranean grass not growing, wat do?

So, I dug underground into the stone and flooded an area with water. Drained the water and had the area muddied. I then dug down into the three caverns, being sure that beneith the area muddied was ground in the caverns taht had grass to ensure that the biome they were in supported subteranian grass.
The area now grows trees and shrubs, but no cave moss/fungus. I need this area for grazing, what can I do to solve this?
Running latest lazy newb pack, no mods.

Does imagination change what engravings you get? Ie. low imagination dwarves giving stuff like squares and crosses. Whilst high imagination dwarves giving events and fanciful creature engravings.

DF Gameplay Questions / God damn eagles!

So a skeletal giant eagles mauled my miner and now he's lost the ability to stand because of motor nerve damage in his left leg (upper and lower) as well as that his left elbow is fractured. So he is using his crutch in his right arm. And his pick in his right arm. He is painfully slow at mining despite being a professional. Will this speed up when his elbow heals? (He ran out of the hospital shortly before having his elbow set...)

So I've got a finished goods stockpile (which includes clothes) and there are some clothes sitting in the hall because a dwarf died of an infection. Why aren't they being hauled?
