EDIT: I just found a larger general thread for DnD so I'll probably just go ahead and post this over there instead, I guess.

I've been planning out a DnD campaign to DM for my friends. The problem is, this is my first experience playing DnD, let alone being the DM, so I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants here. I have a map, I have a general idea of what the main goal of the campaign will be, and I have an okay idea of what the first adventure/dungeon will be like. However, the only parts of my world that I've really fleshed out are those that pertain directly to the main story and the first adventure.

I'm worried that the players will either a) feel like they're being railroaded or b) end up in a part of the world that I haven't thought about at all and have nothing to do.

Here's what I've got so far. Sorry if it sounds a little awkward, this was all written for my own reference:

Spoiler: Summary (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: World Map (click to show/hide)

For context, the eastern end of the largest landmass is Alemic while the western end is Oraya.

Also, this is my first time posting on this forum in a couple years, so, uh, hi again.

General Discussion / The Language Thread
« on: June 18, 2015, 03:07:03 am »
As I haven't seen a general thread for the discussion of language, I decided there might as well be one.

Want to complain about how irregular English is? Cool.
Want help on your Spanish homework? Nice.
Want advice on translating something? Raaadical.
Just want to speak your native language without derailing some other thread? Spectacular.

Basically, anything related to language, be it in general or in reference to something in particular.

Life Advice / Help, I've been bitten by the bi bug!
« on: June 05, 2015, 01:43:04 am »
For all of my life, I've just sort of taken it for granted that I'm straight. I've never felt uncomfortable with that label, and I've never felt like I've been lying to myself or others about who I am. After all this, it was with some surprise that I realized I might be bi. Not only that, but that there's a pretty large likelihood that I am.

Now, I almost feel bad asking for advice here because there are a fair number of LGBTQ and sometimes Y people here who have had to face rejection from friends and family, and who have struggled with depression because of the societal treatment of their identity, whereas I (at least from my point of view) am in a pretty cushy position in terms of coming out. My family has told me before that they would accept me no matter my religion, gender identity or sexuality. I live in Seattle, probably one of the least bad places in the world to not be straight. All my friends are just as liberal as me, if not more. Yet, I still don't know if I feel comfortable coming out.

I just feel that if I come out, regardless of people's acceptance, I'll lose my individual identity to some extent. I feel like instead of people just seeing me as myself, they'll see me as 'that bi guy'. If nothing else, this whole experience has affirmed my belief that gender identity and sexual orientation are thought of as being much larger parts of someone's identity than they are. Who you're attracted to and what gender you are have such little impact on personality, but they're treated like integral parts of yourself as a person.

Should I come out at all? What if I think later that I actually am straight and I have to tell that to people? I don't feel like I'm doing myself any great disservice by only expressing half my sexuality, so should I take the risk and be honest or just stay in my comfort zone?

Excuse any awkward wording or spelling, I'm basically just venting on my kindle at midnight.

That wasn't a very restful sleep, and this doesn't look like a bedroom.

I'm looking into upgrading my PC, and I'm split between two GPUs. There's a sizable price difference between the GTX 970 and the GTX 980 ($330 vs. $550), but my mouth is sort of watering over the 980. Are there any heat concerns with either? Would a mid-tier power supply unit from three years ago be able to handle them?

I'm also looking to buy an SSD, and I'm not sure whether to invest my money in a better SSD or into the better GPU. Any advice on that front?

Play With Your Buddies / Space Funeral: The Quest for Blood
« on: January 03, 2015, 08:18:07 am »
Hey! Let's play! Commentary! What? Okay. Here you go.

I'll (probably) be doing more episodes and once I finish it I'll (maybe) do other stuff. Tell me what you think about my commentary and how much you absolutely despise it.

Creative Projects / Surreal RPG Fangame -- Space Funeral: God Blood
« on: August 20, 2014, 12:41:08 am »
Some of you might have played/seen Space Funeral, an Earthbound-esque RPG with grotesque, gaudy visuals and a story that laments how out of place original artwork and features look in comparison to the established 'ideal', the default assets of the medium they've chosen to use.

Most of you probably haven't. Even fewer probably know that there are a few fangames for it, and even a few more in development. Being a fan of the game, I decided to throw my hat in the ring. Whether it gets finished or not, I can't say, but I might as well get as much feedback and help as I can to help me along. I've got a development blog here.

That said, if you have comments, criticisms on sprites (or story if you feel like spoiling it for yourself if you intend on playing), or any skill in anything that might help out, feel free to PM me or post here. Stuff like sprite-making, writing or just experience with RPGmaker 2003 would be really appreciated.

Here're some pretty pictures!

also i feel kinda bad for thecatamites because space funeral has a really big fanbase compared to his other games and it seems like he wants to move on a bit even though this is more of a hobby for him than anything

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Bay12 Cover Band - Interest gauge
« on: January 22, 2014, 01:50:41 am »
I don't know if this has been a thing that already happened in one form or another, nor do I really care. I like it.

The concept is this: I put up a poll with three albums (with lyrics) chosen mostly through user suggestions, you vote on whichever you like the most, and then you sign up to record yourself singing one of the songs on the album, with or without instrumental backing depending on how much effort you want to put into it. Then, I compile it into one Bay12 cover album and archive it here.

It sounds like fun to me, at least. No vocal talent required, make if as silly or heartfelt as you desire. Anyone interested?

Life Advice / I might not go to highschool next year.
« on: November 26, 2013, 12:20:41 am »
So, there are only two reasons I ever post on this board. Either I'm having computer issues, or some real shit's hitting the fan in my life. This is one of the latter times.

Here's the situation: I'm thirteen years old, in the eighth grade, and failing my social studies and language arts classes. This isn't due to a lack of skill or understanding on my part. I'm really, really bad at getting work done. I can't write by hand for shit, and I only finish about a quarter of all my essays. I don't know whether I'm just lazy, forgetful, or anything else, but I just have basically zero work ethic. My language arts teacher sucks, my math teacher is awesome, my social studies teacher is...meh, and my science teacher is okay.

I'm really concerned. I don't really care about my grades or what my teachers think of me, but I would feel more ashamed than I've ever felt if I didn't make it into highschool. I have three siblings, two of which have finished college proper, while the third is still in college. I know they wouldn't, but I feel like they would look down on me if I failed. Plus, I get one hundred percent of my social interaction with kids my age at school, so if I had to be homeschooled, the only real company I would have is my stressed-out mother.

All I want is an education and some amount of interaction with other people. I don't know what kind of advice you guys might provide, but any is better than none. If you need more information, just ask.

Life Advice / Headphone problems (RESOLVED AND I'M APPARENTLY STUPID)
« on: September 21, 2013, 11:08:05 pm »
I've been having problems with my headphones for a while now, but it's just getting intolerable at this point. I have a pair of Sennheiser PC 151s, I don't know if that information will help, but hopefully it will. The problem is that the headphones constantly make this noise like...I don't exactly know how I can describe it, it's a low humming, kind of like the sound you get when you plug in an amplifier, only higher pitched. It might be due to a short in the wire, but hell if I know where. All I know is that when I move the jack slightly up in the socket it makes a high pitched screeching sound. Any fixes besides buying a new pair?

Life Advice / Computer randomly shutting down
« on: July 26, 2013, 06:49:58 pm »
So, for whatever reason, my computer has decided to start randomly shutting down in about, I'd say, 15 minute intervals. I've never had this happen before. The closest thing to it was whenever the case got so dusty the video card automatically shut down to protect itself, but cleaning out the case has had no effect. What might be happening, and how can I fix it? If you need more information, just ask, I'll provide it.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Looking for a cooperative forum RPG
« on: June 17, 2013, 01:15:48 am »
Basically, what the title says. Sort of like D&D, except I've never played a game of it and I don't really know the rules. Or, if someone else were to start one, I'd be down for that, too. Not sure how many others would be, though. Basically, I'm just looking for something I don't have to DM, and something that I'm there for the start of, rather than joining in one hundred and thirty eight pages into it.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Why, hello, there, fine gentlemen! I couldn't help but notice a distinct dearth of Mount and Blade mods on this subforum. Well, hunger no longer for the sweet flesh of your enemies! We'll be playing a mod called Blood and Steel, a rather large departure from the original Warband. So, let's fire it up and get ready for some pretty damned massive adventures! A word of warning, though, for the screenshots are going to be massive.

Welcome to Blood and Steel!

Welcome to Blood and Steel again! This page lists a couple of the differences between BaS and Warband, as well as some of the decisions you'll be making.

Like your gender!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And your class! I'll give you a brief summary of each class, as it would be tedious to do it through screenshots:

Condottieres are basically mercenary leaders. They start out with good gear, good skills and lots of troops, so they're for more casual runs.

Merchants start out with lots of gold, and good trading skills, however your combat stats aren't as good as the other classes. Good for more peaceful runs, but who needs peace? Hippies, that's who!

Barbarians start out with great combat skills and a good weapon, but not much else. I assume your charisma and intelligence aren't all that great, and that'll hinder you if you choose this class.

Sergeants start out with decent gear and some troops, but no money or food. The lords of the land like you better as a sergeant, and you get a bonus when hiring non-mercenary troops. Don't know what kind, though.

Brigands start with decent stats, mediocre gear and a slightly negative reputation with just about everyone.

Peasant Revolutionaries are in a word, shit. The aristocracy hates your guts, your gear and stats sucks, so be prepared for a hard time if you choose this one. However, it does have its upsides. You start with above-average intelligence and a status as a man of the people.

And, second-to-finally...
