DF Gameplay Questions / FPS in adventure mode

I get less than 20 fps when the character is moving (holding a direction key), is it normal?
I ask because I feel it is too slow to enjoy, comparing to the fortress mode (100 fps at the beginning).

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Siege without enemies

I turned off migrants by setting a low population cap so I could play the original 7 dorfs.
Just recently I got a message "a vile force of darkness has arrived", but no enemies appeared after that. The "siege" label didn't disappear so I guess the enemies didn't enter the map for some reason.

How do I fix that?

I let all their rooms/tombs overlap each other, except the bedrooms, which all have an enclosed area reserved for cabinets. So I can put a handful of artifact furnitures in the shared area to make all the rooms royal standard. And because all furnitures in the rooms are shared, you only need to make enough furnitures for the king and all other nobles should be satisfied.
I do not share cabinets because it seems the dwarves will try to store their clothes in there, last time I checked, they were confused by shared cabinets and kept moving the clothes from one to another.

Well, I can't release it from the cage, otherwise the dorfs will try to murder it, even if it is not in wild state.

It is funny to watch though, all citizens are beating it to death while the trainer drags it to the pesture, leaving a bloody path.

Currently a "lord" (I assume it's a human noble title) who has been in my tavern for ages became Haggard.
So should I remove him for potential berserk threat? Consider he's also a fighter type he might actually harm others.
Will that cause some loyalty cascade? Or politics issue since he's a leader? Or make the human mercenaries turn on me?

My army fought it for more than 1 months before they were all killed. Almost all the soldiers were using bronze weapons, except a human axe lord who had a (steel battle axe). But even steel weapon couldn't hurt it at all.



I reloaded the save before its arrival. Fortunately, despite it had wings, it couldn't fly. So I managed to trap it inside a coal mine. ::)

I reclaimed a fortress which was defeated by a necromancer siege. Then I used dfhack to gather all junks and corpses in several piles.
Everything went smoothly until I saw a message about a planter died...



OH NO!!!!!!!!! I DONT WANNA BE A PLANTER!!!!!!!!!

Kidding.
I think he saw too many dwarf corpses (50+) at one time and his heart just exploded?

Utilities and 3rd Party Applications / Any "alarm" script?

What am I trying to do is checking whether some dangerous creatures have entered a certain area(burrow or the entire map), and sound the alarm if there's any.

The announcement should be like a standard ambush message. For example, a giant olm has entered your dining hall! The game should pause and zoom to the position of the giant olm.

Is it possible? I know there's a lua api which checks if a point is inside a certin burrow. But it has to be checked frequently, and ignore the same creature within a certain period of time (i.e., if the giant olm stays in your dining hall, you don't want to be spammed by the message).

Stonesense is the closest tool I can recall. Though it shows the fort in an isometric perspective view.

I created a cave-in but not before removing all ramps. Now all the ramps are literally floating 20 z levels above. They periodically cause cave-in so they need to be deal with.

So is there a way to remove them, dfhack or not?

I noticed some dwarves just won't recognise each other even if they have been together(even sharing rooms) for decades.

After reading the wiki page, I thought they should at least be passing acquaintance to each other... but no, they just don't appear in each other's relatinship list, while all those in the list are friends.

There're some kinds of items your dorfs never haul unless you mark them to be dumped.
They are usually armors and weapons.

For example:

1) Urist McMilitia gets a copper helm.
2) Urist McMilitia gets a bronze helm and drops the copper one in the dining room.
3) No one wants to touch the copper helm.

Is there any particular reason why this happens? Is there a hidden owner property or something? Can it be fixed by dfhack or other tools?

I'm trying to salvage a 50+ years old infertile fort.

It was an old save with a population cap of 21. There were only 2 possible pairs among them, but they were all too old. Do you think it is possible to get them married beofre anyone died from old age?

But not this time. I bought some from the caravan but they just didn't appear in the list.
