DF Gameplay Questions / Worldgen problems

Okay so I've been trying for about a week to gen up a world with at least one area with a specific parameter. I'd love to get a world with a nice swamp with fairly or mostly flat land and preferably with contact with the three races. Any tips with advanced world gen to maybe make my hunt a little easier?

DF Gameplay Questions / Diagnosis Loop

Okay so this started in my fort recently. Had a dorf get injured badly. I set up a hospital and a doctor. Treatment was started sutures and such applied and what not. It took a while to make a traction bench but that was made and the injured dorf was put on the traction bench by the doctor. Now we are stuck in a 'diagnosis' loop with the doctor. The doctor diagnoses the patient runs off a short way then suddenly runs back to diagnose again. The bad part of this is that the doctor in question completely fails to clean the patient or care for the patient thanks to this diagnose loop. I'd like to figure out if this is a known bug or if theirs a fix to it.

Yes Turning off diagnose using Therapist does make the dorf stop running in circles and actually care for the patient.

P.S. Upside the diagnosis skill is rocketing up.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarven Rescue Squad

So since starting up and playing the new release (with a brand new fort) I have don nothing...but build star ways up into trees to rescue idiots dorfs from trees....these are idiot dorfs who don't even have plant gathering turned on! For some reason my whole fort likes to do recreational tree climbing or something. As a result I have a crew now who's only job is to construct stares to get the idiots down.

DF Gameplay Questions / Gathering Zone Issues

I keep having this issue reoccur in my Gathering Zone. My dwarfs will be happily picking the fruit/what ever just fine then all of a sudden they will start spamming pathing errors. Sometimes it's because another dorf took the stepladder the other one was using but most of the time there is a stepladder right next to the tree. Is there something bugged with the tree fruit gathering with stepladders or something?

DF Gameplay Questions / Chickens and Kids where are they?

Alright been playing the one game for a while. My beginning wave of chickens did lay and the eggs hatched. My second generation chickens I am waiting on them to Hatch their first nests. I've also not had a single dwarf loose their baby yet. It's already mid spring I've had two migration waves and I'm finding this a bit odd. I'm going to keep running the fort for a bit and see what happens. Is this normal for 2015 or what?


Edit: Okay Just had my first annoying munchkin born...

Anyone have any idea on how to locate a werebeast in your fort. I've had a werebeast attack but everyone it attacked died before it changed. I just want to make sure none of the new migrants that showed up during the attack are cursed?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / I have a super chicken!

So I had some critters in my brand new fort stuck up in the tree. So I cut the trees down to get the critters down. Sadly this resulted in two severely injured chickens. One of which I can't believe is able to MOVE! This one has a bruised liver, an exploded right wing, crushed left upper leg, and exploded lower right leg. This chicken should be dead by all natural means but it still lives and is currently apparently flopping about in my poultry farm. I don't know if I should make it a pet for it's amazing feat or slaughter it to put it out of it's misery...decisions decisions.

DF Gameplay Questions / How to get seeds from Cook only plants?

So I noticed some of the new plants in game. Namely alfalfa, lettuce, and rhubarb (as those are the only ones I've had in my new fort) are listed on the kitchen status screen as cook only. Since there is no brewing option for these plants how do you get seeds from them. I can't process them to get seeds at a work shop since I tried every available option there. So just how do we get seeds? Are these just one use plants? Is trading the only reliable way to get seeds for these plants?

So I just started a new fort in the latest build and noticed something strange. You cannot toggle brewing. Is this a glitch or something that hasn't been turned on yet. I also have a feeling my still is auto brewing as I made up some barrels and with out telling the still anything it automatically brewed up a bunch of beer. So the question is. Is this a bug or not?

DF Suggestions / Multi Tile Trees are Great But...

It's awesome the multi tile trees have been implemented. I've been waiting to see how it would look and it looks awesome. But there's one thing bugging me on it. Shouldn't mining the roots of a tree produce useable wood. I think it should and that would make a nice thing to do. Given how slow trees grow in game the roots could be a useable source of wood when trees become a bit scarce. This is just a simple thought is all. This is mostly since your woodcutter can't actually 'chop' out roots. Or perhaps that could become a job for the woodcutters. Miners won't dig through wood.  You need a woodcutter to chop through it and then the miners continue work?

* Tree roots provide useable wood.
* Miners not able to dig through roots.
* Woodcutters required to chop roots out of way.

DF Gameplay Questions / Bare Minimum Clothing Requirements?

So I started to make clothing in my fort. Something I don't usually worry about and I'm trying to figure out the bare minimum clothing necessary to keep the dwarves happy. So far I'm just making shirts, trousers, and leather shoes for them. Are socks, gloves, ect necessary? Also how can I get them to throw away those worn socks, gloves, ect if they don't need it?

I remember back in 40d you could train exotic pets with the dungeon master. Since the dungeon master is basically broken and non-existing anymore is there a way to modify a current game to be able to train the exotic pets?

DF Gameplay Questions / Rock Nuts and Screw Presses

So I decided to set up another fort after a bit of a time away from playing Dorf Fort. My fort has been going along fine and I was thinking of setting up my soap production using Rock Nuts as the fat source for the soap.

Like normal I set up querns ground some paste and got ready to press. I couldn't select the pressing option for the nut paste at the screw press. I checked and made sure I had everything possible to make the oil. Rock nuts, Rock Nut Paste, Jugs, Barrels, Screw Press, People with the Pressing labor activated. Still nothing. I moved stocks around just to make sure that they were still seeing the items and still can't get the dorfs to use the screw press.

I know there is a current bug with the screw press revolving around honeycomb and I'm wondering if other people have ran into the same issue in regards to rock nut
paste and if there's a known way around it. In past forts I have had the screw presses up and running just fine with absolutely no problems at all. Currently playing version 34.11.

DF Gameplay Questions / Weird Poultry

So I just noticed something in my game as I was in the process of butchering a bunch of turkeys and I had kinda noticed it before but didn't investigate. In my game apparently various poultry do no give raw hides yet according to the wiki they are suppose to and I'm sure I've gotten hides from turkeys before in the past. But what's more weird is that apparently my turkey lack bones...and hide both.....I find this VERY disturbing. I get meat, skull, fat, intestines. No bone no skin. I shall butcher a goose, peafowl, and chicken to see if this holds true with them.

DF Gameplay Questions / Military Issues

I know there's a few very mild bugs with military in DF. I'm currently having issues getting my archer squad to ACTUALLY practice their archery. My entire archery range sits unused and all the targets are selected for training and everything and they still don't use it. I dismissed the squad made a new squad with the same dorfs and tried again and I seem to still be having this issues. I only have bone bolts selected at this moment for training and combat until they get their levels up more. But is there something I'm missing trying to get them to actually practice archery.
