Haven't played for a (big) while and wanna start new fort, what animal is the elephant/carp/badger konga of current version? Some advice for returning player?

Hey, I would like to propose a community fortress challenge.

Rules:
 - every overseer take a turn of one year
 - every overseer can dig (or build) one floor of community fortress. Size of the dug/build level will be at max 13x13 with 3x3 stairway in the center. (below or over, but not necessary 1 floor under
 - veins and mines are an exception, but digged place cannot be used)
 - at the start of every year, dwarfs limit in init file is increased by 10 (starting from 10). I know it is not working well yet, so if there are more dwarves then intended. the surplus must have all the jobs disabled.
 - additional challenge is that every overseer must build a shrine of his choice on the surface of the map. Or at least try.

I will try picking a nice and fun start, preferably in hunted environment with a cloud of some fun sort (I do not like insta-kill rains nor resurrecting biomes so finding good embark will take quite a time)

I would like to try a new and funny mod, but never tried any other than fortress defence, so if someone have a proposition please post them.

Anyone in?

1. Hey, I once heard that if you lose a fortress to invaders and then go there ad an adventurer enemies might be friendly.

Is it confirmed? I do not want to start and lose a fortress just to find it out;(

I am especially interested in answer if necro and gobos might be friendly? (I guess zombie will be unfirendly as OPPOSED TO LIFE)

2. How about traps, will they work when I visit my old fort as an adventurer?

DF Gameplay Questions / Make militia dwarves equip all armour

Well, I created enough steel armour pieces and military screen stated all is equipped. I noticed though, that none of the dwearves eqipped their steel gauntlets, they were left in the stockpile. Siege came, whole squad got killed with copper sword hits in hands and lower arms, rest was deflected by the armour.

It is kinda disappointing, especially with the speed dwarves are gaining skills if you do not cheat (danger rooms etc). What can I do to make dwarves eqiup whole armour?

Also I had struggle with only 2 of 10 marksdwarves using crossbows, but I learned that choosing "specific weapon" solves this issue. Do I need to assign all armour parts as specific item to be sure all is equipped?

Awesome! Can't wait to play a vampire now!

What other types of smelling and sensing could we propose?

1. Animals with good smell (like dogs) can smell bigger entities? (For example playing as weredog)

2. Experienced adventures can have a feeling of incoming traps?

3. Somebody (not sure who, maybe item holder etc) could sense undead beings?

Curse them..

Every year they appear just next to the caravan liason and kill him before anyone can react.

Guess this is why I am left with 9 adult dwarves and 30 children.

Any ideas what can I do to attract migrants without the caravan liason?

I would like to play a sealed fortress, but I found 7 dwarves to be boring now. Is it possible to have more dwarves at start or to trigger a immediate immigration at start?
