DF Gameplay Questions / Trying vanilla DF - how do I sort my dwarves?
« on: September 28, 2013, 06:01:15 pm »
Hey there, long time no see!

I wanted to try DF "out of the box". No DT, no dfhack or anything.

This seems to be going well except for one thing: I simply can't sort out my dwarves based on skill.

Is there any "smart" way to do this in DF?

My clumsy attempt is starting in the user list. Then for instance typing "c" to go to a dwarf, look at his skills, perhaps alter some and then i want to return to the user list. Except I can't? (I can of course hit escape and then u to start at the top again, but that is hardly "returning" to the user list).

Aquifer powershell script

What is it?
I made a simple powershell script to recursively remove/restore aquifer in raws. The wiki page (here) only has a command-line solution for linux. One should at least be familiar with the concepts described there before running this script.

How do I use it?
If you look at the screenshot I run one command to remove the aquifer and another one to restore it for my "Metalabyss" region. The default setting is to remove the aquifer.

It will recursively look for 'inorganic_stone_mineral.txt', 'inorganic_stone_layer.txt' and inorganic_stone_soil.txt' based on the supplied path. I suggest targetting a specific save/region like the example.

If you use your Dwarf Fortress folder as path it will alter the raws located there and all your saves.

Any disclaimers?
As with any mod, please back up your files first!

Where to download?
Download from dropbox.

Any requirements
You need powershell installed, and know how to run a script or ask here/google for it.
