Other Games / Cities in Motion Gamer's Gate (lightning) giveaway!
« on: April 05, 2012, 05:02:27 am »
Exactly fourty eight hours from when this is posted, the giveaway will commence. I cannot tell you exactly what this requires of you, but know this:
  • You must not be an Escaped Lunatic
  • You must have a Gamersgate account
  • You should only enter if you intend to play the sodding game, srsly
  • You must not be a sore loser if someone else can blitzkreig the defenses of the challenge faster than you can
  • You should bookmark an online sports almanac
  • You should watch your Bay12 forums inbox carefully
The prize is one copy of Cities in Motion on GamersGate, and you will be competing for it. I cannot tell you exactly how until you actually do. The challenge will not require you to leave your computer. Post in this topic if you are interested. Signups end in exactly 24 hours from the posting of this.

General Discussion / The first truely relevant topic in this forum

This is general discussion, so let's actually do that for once! I'll start off by stating that Eisenhower is cool.

Curses / Boxing ring
« on: February 27, 2012, 02:55:36 am »
What if there was a boxing ring added?

Located in the college district, the boxing ring requires an entry fee of $250, which is refunded upon winning a match. You send a liberal there on Fridays only, and he wins or loses a fight based on heart, injuries, strength, agility, and martial arts. If you win a fight, you choose in between making a little speech about an issue, or receiving a cash prize. The amount of money or political sway you get depends on how powerful the opponent was. If you go on a day that isn't Friday, you can pay $20 to train various boxing related skills and find out how hard the next fight will be. Win or lose, you'll probably come home from a match with some bruises.

At C+ gun laws, the boxing ring turns in to a dueling ring, where gunslingers try to shoot their opponent before they get shot, as determined by chance and pistol skill. Only fools would get themselves killed like that, so you may only enter a duel if you have wisdom below 5.

At L+ gun laws where boxing gloves are illegal, the boxing ring becomes a forum. You enter contests in the same manner, only you debate politics instead of boxing. Science, intelligence, and all those types of skills and stats affect your chance of winning. If you lose a debate, public opinion on that subject shifts conservative. if you win the debate, the public opinion becomes more liberal and you receive a prize based on the int of your opponent.

Think this idea could work?

General Discussion / Web design (most assuredly not spam)
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:42:42 am »
If you see a "unique" piece of web design, post it here. Good, bad, unusual, we want to see it all! No plugging your own site.

Here's a starter submission: http://www.yeaboing.com/

http://richardhofmeier.com/cartlife/

I didn't find a topic for this, so I've decided to make one. Cart Life bills itself as a retail simulator, but it's really quite a bit more. The best way to find out what this stroke of genius is about would be to download and play it, which can be done for free at the website. If you're playing for the first time, I suggest choosing Andrus Poder, as he has the most straightforward start. Cart Life is made by Richard Hofmeier.

Other Games / Counterstrike Dillema
« on: January 01, 2012, 09:35:30 am »
So I bought the Counterstrike complete pack while It was on sale on Steam, but I'm not sure what to play first. Would you suggest CS or CS:CZ or CS:CZDS or CS:S:B or CS:S? What's the difference between them?

Life Advice / Tropico 4 launcher problem (fixed)
« on: December 23, 2011, 11:17:48 am »
I recently bought a digital copy of Tropico 4 during the big Steam sale, but I can't get it to run again. I installed it, used the key given to me, and played normally for a few hours earlier today. Now when I try to start it up again, I can't use the launcher or figure out how to (screenshots below). It is not a problem with Steam, and I tried moving the taskbar and messing with the screen resolution, but nothing works. I'm on a 1336x736 windows 7 laptop.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on anything, I'm a little mad that I can't enjoy being Presidente anymore. I already tried contacting Kalypso customer support, but they're on holiday break until January 2nd.

Other Games / Dungeons of Dredmor Christmas giveaway! (Pnx)
« on: December 21, 2011, 06:04:53 am »
Pnx wins!

I'll be honest with you, I bought a copy of DoD for a friend but I accidentally bought two. Rather than than it for a key in TF2 or something, I've decided to give it away.

Entry form:
Are you an escaped lunatic?
Will you actually play this?
Seriously, only enter if you're going to play. You sure you're entering?
Link to your Steam profile:
How many pages are there in the eighth edition 1972 Boyscout handbook?

The number of pages will be hinted at in the next update to my interactive Dungeons of Dredmor adventure, which will occur once enough people actually vote on how to level up.

DF General Discussion / Best Bay12ers of 2011
« on: December 20, 2011, 05:15:32 am »
I know this is off topic, but it's the only way to reach the upper-forumers. We have a contest for best B12ers of 2011 going on down in General Discussion, and we value your opinions.

Again, feel free to pelt me with rotten fruit for the off topic post, I just needed to get those of you who don't go below DF discussion to know about this. Otherwise it will be entirely lower forumer candidates that will be voted for, and that's not democratic if it's a contest for all of Bay12.
