I think that not being able to put them into squads or assign them meaningful work outweighs their utility as dedicated haulers/planters. I also don't think I've had a fort last 18 years more than once. I'm not a huge fan of this change to be honest.

Has anyone been able to make one in the Steam release? Someone told me they had over 6k gems in their fort and not a single large gem or gem craft. I haven't seen any in my forts, other than the ones the merchants bring. My hypothesis is that the new reaction for "cut gem" and "polish stone" (rather than the old "cut <stone>" jobs) weren't updated to produce these items.

It seems that hauling jobs related to locations are extremely low priority. Dwarves would rather haul stones to a stockpile than buckets to a hospital. This in and of itself isn't a huge problem, since dwarves will still use items out of a stockpile for most location-related tasks. However, the fact that all of the related items are tagged for a task, and thus rendered unusable, is a huge issue. I had a carpenter's workshop making buckets on repeat and I still had dwarves dying of thirst in the hospital. What exactly is the workaround for this issue?

DF Suggestions / Give races a passive "death by misadventure" rate

I think implementing something like this would help reduce the lag that is present in goblin sites without affecting their immortality.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Rage and crashes
« on: December 31, 2015, 09:59:51 pm »
So, this all started a few days ago. I was genning pocket worlds with long histories to adventure in. I walked into a forest retreat and got a crash. I kept trying and trying and finally reported it to the bug tracker. The next day it goes offline. I gen more worlds to try to get around this problem. I finally choose one and gen a human outsider adventurer. I walk to the nearest abandoned fortress and loot it for gems, platinum crafts, and equipment. Then, I head to the largest human town. I walk around a bit, hire some guys, drink and get equipment. Here's where things get interesting: I go to the keep and there's about five priests and a law giver. Almost immediately, a swarm of gobbos siege the keep. I help siege because for some reason no one wants to fight me, and after killing everyone, I go to claim the site. "I've forgotten my bold pronouncement..." WTF. Then the game crashes. I do literally everything up to going into town again. As soon as I get into town, I try to save and the game crashes. At this point I ragequit.

So... anyone else dealing with this?

Ninja edit: I don't have any of the saves anymore, although I could probably gen more and get similar results with no problem.

1. It's exceptionally light
2. It has amazing cutting power
3. It's harvested in strands

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Danger Fortress
« on: December 25, 2015, 12:32:05 pm »
So, I just had this idea: instead of building danger rooms, why not cover all the unoccupied tiles in a fortress with weapon traps loaded with wooden spears/spikes and hook the whole thing up to a repeater?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Something's Not Right Here

I got a quest to kill a vampire in a temple. The map lead me to this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's a pit that leads to the magma sea. (Yes, I jumped in it to make sure)
Now what?

EDIT
I actually found the temple; the map was giving me wrong directions.

EDIT2
I murdered the vampire, drank his blood, and killed nearly two hundred "notable" creatures with an over-decorated copper puzzlebox.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Is there any other game where you are a vampire who can run around slaying great beasts with a copper puzzlebox while yelling "Eat my cushion ruby cabochons?"
HELL NO.

EDIT3
I bled to death after having my feet and hands broken. The end.
