DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Blasphemy! Foul goblinlovers!
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:10:24 pm »
So, I started a new fort in the new version. When the first caravan from Mountainhomes arrived, I got an (unpleasant  >:( ) surprise (the Hamlet Liaison):

A goblin! Foul creature! It just might be that some year he will accidentally get trapped in a flooding chamber  ::)

First of all, I haven't played the Adventure mode that much, so I'm not quite sure what kind of features it has already. Anyways, here's the story:

---somewhat irrelevant story begins---
My best character yet got a quest from a human town mayor to kill an elite kobold bowman. I departed the town and was very desperate to have recieved a suicide mission. I sneaked around in the cave, stabbing kobolds in the heart with my well made iron spear. I walked on a stairway, and suddenly got the "I am blah blah blah" message. The odds were in my favour; the kobold elite bowman was standing right next to me, and it was my turn. The first (and likely to have been my only) attack solved the battle right away. I stabbed him in the heart, and both lungs, effectively rendering him incapacitated. So now I stab him like a maniac until he's dead. I grab his good loot and head back to the town.
---somewhat irrelevant story ends---

So I arrive to the town at night, so I go into the tavern to wait to talk to the mayor, and sleep on a bed. But when I wake up.... almost all the people in the town are dead, including the mayor. Some of them were killed in their beds, some corpses are scattered outside. There's lots of clothing and pieces of armor around, too... I'm sure this wasn't one of the towns I had raided with earlier characters, and I'm also sure the corpses weren't there the first time I visited the town. Can't be 100% sure about the night because... it was dark  :p .

So I'm wondering... What on earth happened? :O

DF Gameplay Questions / Fortress falling apart!
« on: August 25, 2007, 02:54:00 pm »
Okay, so my fortress, "The Boltscastles", is now in the year 1057 late spring. So far I haven't had too many problems. But recently things have been getting worse.

Since the beginning, I've dug 1x4 rooms (door, empty space, bed, coffer) for my dwarves. It took me some time to notice that not all dwarves could afford those rooms after the economy came in. After that I've made 1x3, or even 1x2 rooms, which I believe solved that problem.

More recently I've noticed that things are not getting done... By that I mean that masons don't produce furniture, carpenters won't cut wood or make beds. They won't even clean up the goblin corpses that piled up during the last siege. But it seems that mining and stone detailing are the jobs that my dwarves do eagerly. (Yes, I tried disabling all detail orders to 'free up' my masons). I've also checked the options and there's no apparent reason why the dwarves are lazying around.

The dead soldiers from the sieges caused some of their friends and spouses to tantrum, and some of them wouldn't eat during their unhappy moods, so some of them starved. And since my dwarves won't haul/bury the corpses, they create even more unhappy thoughts for the others. And since my dwarves won't haul, my workshops (especially the magma forge, farmers workshop and kitchens) are cluttered. I also became a victim of coin-explosion when a fireman destroyed my magmaforge once.

My dwarves are farming, but they're kinda lazy with it. Next winter is going to tear my fortress down, unless I can get fix to whatever is wrong with my dwarves!

Help!

DF Bug Reports / Empty demand
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:50:00 pm »
Okay, I couldn't find any threads about this yet. A really simple (to explain) bug; my Captain of the Guard made an "empty" demand.

DF Suggestions / Scan the mountain!
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:43:00 am »
This is just an idea I got some time back. There could be a way for the dwarves to "scan" a part of the mountain. For example, they would have to build a sonar station (would require some slightly more exotic components).

When the station is used, it would reveal the surrounding area. Higher skill would increase the range of the "scanned" area, and also be more accurate on what the surroundings are. Low skill shows the tiles as either 'rock' or 'ore', while higher skills could show them as for example 'obsidian' 'marble' 'copper' etc.

This technology wouldn't be available in the beginning (due to the components), and performing these scans would take some time so you can't just scan every corner of your fort.

Too high-tech for dwarves? :P
