Other Games / Human Ressources: kickstarter cancelled.
« on: October 05, 2014, 07:59:40 am »

Brought to you by the creators of Planetary annihilation, the spiritual successor to Total Annihilation and Supreme commander, Human ressources is another large-scale RTS, using the PA engine.

Things are different here: humans are not a faction, they are a ressource (hence the title). Machines use their brains for power, ancient tentacled monster for sacrifices.

The list of features is enough to make any fan of the genres involved drool, especially since Uber Entertainment showed they are completely able to deliver. Fully destructible terrain, Kaiju brawling, building tossing...

The art style is very cartoony, which I think goes very well with the theme. If your game where giant tentacle monsters smash giant mechas with buildings tries to look gritty, you're missing the point.

And of course the inevitable endgame superweapons, this time with the invocation of faction leaders. Losing a battle? Invoke Cthulhu to eat the whole map and laugh maniacally!

Kickstarter is open now, ends the 3 of november. Goal is 1.4 million dollars. Roughly $190.000 were pledged at the time of writing. (click on the top image to access the kickstarter page).

It looks fuck*ng awesome and you should at least take a look at this.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Random Mech Generator
« on: June 06, 2014, 10:10:10 am »
"I suck at titles" edition.

Ladies and gentlemen. I just found a random mech generator (in pdf form). It is of highest quality, so I am presenting it to you. The ultimate goal being to run a game with it.

Here it is: Link

As you can see it is extremely detailed, with a wide range of possibilities and even a steampunk section.
A game based on it would most certainly be cooperative rather than competitive, as it seems unfair to pit a tiny exoskeleton mecha armed with naught but a pair of light autocanons, against a cold-fusion powered towering monstrosity boasting 25 nuclear warheads, a quad heavy railgun, a deuterium laser beam, an incendiary grenade launcher, a pair of gatlings, an energy shield, can turn invisible, transform into a fighter jet, and is overcharged by the power of friendship. Because both are totally possible.

I imagine that the ideal format would be something of an RPG, with a random team of mechs against hordes of other mechs.
The main problem would then be the potentially huge disparity between the players.

Otherwise it could be a wonderful ressource for anyone running a mech-based game, to generate opponents or whatnot.
Also feel free to post any mech you rolled in this topic.

Contributing with two mechs I rolled:
(everything besides the name originated from rolls on the generator)

Play With Your Buddies / Let's play Endless Space, like a newb!
« on: April 26, 2013, 07:01:43 am »

Let's Play Endless Space!
So, yeah, I recently finished my third game of this wonderful game, and I thought it would be cool to attempt a let's play of it. For greater !!FUN!!, you will be allowed to somewhat direct my actions, like the race I will be playing, the diplomatic stance, ship design (missiles, guns or lasers?), or more simply naming systems, ships and fleets.

For those of you who don't know what Endless Space is, it's a very good 4X game. Fairly classic. You got star systems linked by space lanes, each having 1-6 planets of various types and sizes, each with its own perks (like mutant flora, rings, irradiation, ruins, etc...). There is all the classic systems of production, food, money, population and whatnot. If you played any 4X at all you will quickly understand 80% of what's going on.
The combat system is unusual. Some may be turned off by it, but if you compare it to Civilization, it's much more interactive and tactical. Basically there's three kinds of weapons (with appropriate defence for each), and cards you play, which gives bonuses and can counter each other.

WINNING:There's several ways to win the game:
Spoiler: Winning conditions (click to show/hide)

_____________________________________________________________________

First, deciding the race we will play. There is 10 of them:
Spoiler:  The races. (click to show/hide)

Then there's the form and size of the galaxy, and the number of opponents (you can choose their race, too). I find 3-5 opponents is a good number, but if you want a 1v1 on a huge 2-arms galaxy, fine. Don't try a 8 player battle on a tiny galaxy though, tiny galaxy is REALLY tiny.
You can also choose the number of constellations, space lanes, age of the galaxy (influence the types of stars present, which influence the type of planets.), but I won't list all of the options (there's a lot!). Pirates are off, that's not negociable. Also difficulty level, set to newbie (or easy at most). That said, feel free to suggest!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Colony Story, Prologue: Shattered Steel.
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:11:58 pm »
Hello everyone! Today I finally worked up the courage to launch this. This is a suggestion game roughly inspired by several games, including castle story, dead space, lost planet and blockade runner.

The plot will unravel as you go (I hope it will be good enough...). The prologue itself is rather railroaded, but the rest of the adventure is very different. Think of this as a sort of interactive intro cinematic. :D
Updates will probably be short and frequent (as frequent as I can...)

Prologue: Shattered steel.

You wake up in a metal tube. Doors slide open and let you enter a very small room, in which you barely fit. It seems like you're being examined by some medical devices. After a short time, the front of the room open, and you enter a bright, white, clean room, much bigger this time. It looks like an infirmary or something.
A voice, metallic and emotionless, echoes in the room.
"Welcome, XEg-001. The genetical memory should kick in soon, and answer most of your questions."

You pause, puzzled. Suddenly your mind is filled with memories. You're in the clone spawn bay (doubling as a medical bay) of a Neumatron class colony ship. These huge spaceships are crewless, they only bring the necessary supplies to start the colony on the world they're sent in, and large quantities of the clone fluid. Once arrived, this fluid is used to create clones that will start the colony. Clones like yourself.

You are, however, an XEg model. Engineer X number 001. Those are not common clones. The X models are highly talented in several fields and are almost completely autonomous. They are not suited for teamwork, and thus are rarely called in. They hinder the progression of the colony as a whole, you can say.
Unless there is a big, big problem. XEg are mostly created when the ship encounter problems on the way to their destinations. Problems that the AI can't diagnostic (in this case it'll just send basic engineers clones). In these cases, a XEg clone is cost-effective.

"As you will probably guessed now, we are not yet arrived. We encountered unexpected problems and you are tasked to investigate them. First, grab your equipement on the table. Then, go to the ship's bow. The sensor array is unavailable. Find out what happened to them and fix the connection, so I can assess the ship's situation."

The table has an AdvEg space suit on it, as well as a Pistool (not a typo, it's a plasma pistol AND a multi-tool), a portable sensor and some tools and rations.

You probably have an idea of where this is going, don't you?  ;)
And by the way, this is my first forum game GMing on Bay12. But I GMed several others on other forums, so I'm not that inexperimented. ;)

*hoping it will have lots of views and answers*

Hello! Here I invit you to post biology is-it-possible questions and looooong-term project, wich cannot be achieved before a looong time, and thus do not have their place into the main topic, for Darwin's Island [Before the Dawn of Time]!
just there:http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=91226.0

At the moment i post this topic, we are a single cell, struggling to survive in a thick ooze, wondering if our potential-next-food is edible or not.

Here's some ideas we started to discuss in the main topic, and we should debate about it there ( it's more appropriate, i thought.)

-The method we used to eat our first "prey" (vegetal cell) rised some ideas about becoming a parasit. Something that eat you from the inside. perfectly good. How could we acchieve that? Will we stay unicellular or attempr pluricellularism? What would be the exact method? How can we achieve sentience this way?

-The cells we just spotted may be poisonnous (or not). even if not, the use of poison have been rised. How to use it? Wich type of poison?

-Someone proposed symbiosis with the "green-little-bacterias". What about it?

-We will eventually become something pluricellular (altough it's very far from us). What will we look like?

And anything that come in your mind...
