Creative Projects / My first full-sized game project, Project Brush
« on: September 30, 2019, 09:16:43 am »
I've begun the groundwork for my first full-sized project, I've only just begun, so I have nothing more than a GDD, but soon I shall have a prototype up and running in I'd say two to four weeks.

The gist of the project is that you live in an authoritarian city ruled by corporations, your basic run-of-the-mill sci-fi story, but I plan on featuring a randomized cityscape, so every fight with "the man" will be at least visually distinct each time you play.

I hope people will see this, and come with me on my journey into game development!

I'm gonna post updates to my Patreon every time I do something even remotely worth talking about regarding this project!

Patreon link, dude!

I think I may have made a thread like this a while ago, but I'm too lazy to dig through my posts to get to it.

Anyone want to play some note blocks nicely?

Other Games / Games that you like, but no one else seems to like.
« on: May 27, 2017, 08:05:24 pm »
Fallout 4, I love it a lot, so much that it's my most played game on Steam, even over my favorite game of all time, Fallout New Vegas.

I get why people don't like it, story-wise, but you have to admit that Bethesda (despite butchering the RPG aspects) made a really damn fun game, not to mention that it actually looks really good without graphics mods. Which for me is a first from Bethesda.

I'm not a shooter fan myself, but I love the gunplay quite a bit, a lot of the weapons actually have a satisfying punch to them, not to mention the legendary items.

And again, for the first time in a Bethesda game, I actually don't hate every companion in the game. There's actual effort to not make all of them standoffish jackasses. Which is greatly appreciated.

And the environments are amazing (when they don't lag the game down to 15fps) I love them more than most open world games, because of the sheer scale and mass of it all, not to mention settlement building (Preston Gravy can go and fuck himself) I actually dig it quite a bit, especially with mods, I spent - I shit you not - an entire 6 hour session just building my fortress in Sanctuary Hills.

If I were to go on, this would become even more of a wall of text than it already is, my point is that Fallout 4 is a damn fine game, better than a lot of games.

Creative Projects / Fallout 4 Rebuilt - A Major Overhaul
« on: March 28, 2017, 02:22:09 am »
I'm gonna start this off by saying that I'm not exactly the best at modding, but what I've wanted to do for a while is make an overhaul of a game. And what better game to do it with than the supremely flawed - but still very enjoyable - Fallout 4 :D

I made a banner for it already, and I'm making quite good progress on making a modular game settings system.

General Discussion / HappySlapp's "I like talking." thread
« on: March 08, 2017, 09:49:38 pm »
I have another thread kinda like this on Creative Projects, but this topic didn't really fit with my other thread, hence I made this one that you are currently observing with your optical spheres. Let's cut to the chase, I wanna get to know everybody a bit better on this here forum, considering I've been actively posting for around 2 years now, and still don't know a lot of you very well.

So yeah, anyone caring to participate in a jaunty conversation with me, reply, and you don't really need to keep to a topic. I know a variety of subjects, but if we're going to talk about books, I'll let you know that I'm not a very studious guy xD

But what I am currently doing is playing/being addicted to Breath of the Wild, and making a game with GameMaker 2 if those topics pique your interest, brah.

After a long while of living under a rock (a basement) I have finally stepped back into the light (upstairs) to brave a world in which I am but an infant (socializing)

I have been given super special DRUGS to help me focus on things better. So yay! I can probably keep a thread going for longer than three posts this time :D

I have been learning how to use GameMaker for a little bit, almost a week, good thing I learnt a lot about Unity before I moved to GM, having a basic general knowledge of coding is really speeding up my learning rate regarding GM.

But yeah, I wanna try and actually post here when I can, even if It has nothing to do with GameMaker at large. Keep it as some sort of blog that-no-one-is-probably-going-to-care-about sort of dealio.

But in the famous words of Plato:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So there ya go, stay tuned or not. I'm probably still gonna post whether anyone listens or doesn't.

Creative Projects / HappySlapp's Everything I do is here thread
« on: September 10, 2016, 10:56:57 pm »
Ha Ha! I totally forgot about all of my old threads I've made.
So guess what? I am just going to use this one thread to talk about EVERYTHING I do, instead of making a new thread just to abandon it a couple of days later. So yeah, let's get the party started!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

My Imgur (I'll update this thread AND my imgur whenever I make new things that are imgur worthy)

My RedBubble (Again, I'll update it when I make new shirt designs or other things related to RedBubble)

My Website (CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And finally we come to my old and notable threads on these very forums, I've had a lot of great memories on here :D

HappySlapp's Totes Original Pixel Art a Day (sorry Cinder/DigitalDemon)

Let's Play: Fallout New Vegas (Smoke me a Ripper, I'll be back for breakfast!)

Ad Victoriam (XCOM 2 Mod, Side project)

UnityLog: My quest to learning Unity.(Feb 2nd - 7th: Movement (2D))

(42.06)[The Windy Universes] Turn 10a, Terrapin | Turn 11b, Bearskie [Adv. Suc.]

This is gonna be my only thread, because once I make another, I rarely go back to the other. So, anything I make that is worthy of note will be posted to this thread, and on other relevent threads, instead of being jumbled about every which way. This'll make it a LOT easier to keep track on things I wanna do, goals I wanna achieve, and overall just make everything simpler to process.

Currently, I am working on getting my website established, and trying to make it look all nice and pretty, will update sometime later with what I'm doing with the website and anything else I plan on doing.

For now I'll leave you with my favorite review I've done on my site so far.

I finally hit the small-time, I've made a review blog cataloging all of my reviews I am going to make, and I'll be sure to post links to any of my new ones here :D

DF Modding / I have a question regarding Castes.
« on: August 28, 2016, 06:33:50 pm »
I am currently in the planning phase of my first mod for DF, and was wandering if there was a way to artificially make separate factions that can go to war with each other by either making them separate races, or if it's possible, by making them different castes within the same race.

It might help if I explain what I'm making.

I'm making a Witcher mod, and wandered that if I made Nilfgaardians and Temerians separate races, would they still interbreed and go to war, because they are both humans, just technically different to the game?

I have decided that I've been away from pixel art for far too long. And I wanna try to rectify that by making one a day, no matter if it sucks or is good, I'm gonna post it.

I've been working on Dwarf Fortress Quest in the meantime, which also counts as pixel art, since I'm making my own art for it. So I will also post any art I make for it here.

Thank you Cinder/DigitalDemon, for this amazing idea I stole from you I made into my own :D

To be honest though, this is a really good idea that would help anyone who is art-inclined, like myself. So thanks for the original idea, guys :D

My idea for "The Wasteland", my other game I was working on, turned into this. Because I just really wanted to see how a completely story-driven, choice-filled, Dwarf Fortress game would be like. Kind of like how TellTale (I am in NO way comparing myself to TellTale) did the Tales from the Borderlands game.

You can check out this small little trailer I made for the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bJB_4Gt58Q (It obviously does not contain gameplay yet. But as soon as I have enough of the game playable, I will make a new trailer :D)

The game stars: Everyone!

Just tell me what you want your character to say and do in the game, and I will try my best to accommodate :D
This may take a little while, but not anywhere near as long as making my own lore and shit. So yeah.

And thus begins a new chapter in dwarven history, my friends:

PART I: THE WASTELAND PART II: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

The story is going to star Urist McMiner, a dwarven miner that yearns for a more adventurous life out in the world of The Windy Universes. It is terrifying. and it is also inevitable, as he is going to learn soon enough. He must combat the horrors of the dark, night creatures, necromancers, maybe even a bronze colossi or two while on his way towards his ultimate goal.

Let's give it a whirl, shall we?

We are going to play through Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition, with Lonesome Road being the last thing we'll do in the game. I play. YOU DECIDE.
Either way, I'm gonna play using only Project Nevada, EVE, WMX, and a few other quality of life improvements. NO QUEST MODS. Unless it's demanded.

To start off, what is our hero going to be like? what makes him/her, S.P.E.C.I.A.L?

33 Points, can't go above 10 in any stat.

Strength:      1
Perception:    1
Endurance:    1
Charisma:     1
Intelligence:  1
Agility:         1
Luck:           1

We can also pick up to 2 traits for our hero/heroine from this list:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_traits

And we get 3 Tag skills to choose:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout%3A_New_Vegas_skills#List_of_skills

Feel free to suggest any type of name, face, or other features you want me to add to the character :D

Creative Projects / The Wasteland: Roleplaying game (Part II: No dice)
« on: August 16, 2016, 02:00:48 am »
You know, I feel bad for bashing Bethesda, considering how unbelievably difficult it is to actually make a game. Let alone a good one.

I have decided to try and make my own game in the vain of Dwarf Fortress, but set in post apocalyptia of course. This thread will show my victories, massive failures, and anything in between. I am making the game with Unity, which may be a bad choice, but I don't really care to much. I just wanna try and make something worthwhile.

This is gonna be difficult, but it'll be fun, hopefully :D

PART I: FALLOUT INSPIRATIONS

Stay tuned :D

15
I just thought I'd get a bit more involved with the community by discussing some of my favorite, and not so favorite games. So there ya go, there's the reason for this thread to exist, I guess :D

I thought I'd start with a little game called:

NO MAN'S SKY

Personally, I actually think it's a bad game. Well, it's also good... It's gonna take some explanation on my part.
You see, I love the ideas that the game brings to the table, namely:

- 18 Fuckbungus amount of planets to explore. (P.S. Fuckbungus is a lot ((P.P.S. I know that the actual planet count is 18,446,744,073,709,551,616, but you know what? FUCK IT *Drops mic*)))
- Trading with space people.
- Fighting with space people.
- Fighting in a spaceship against other spaceships which may or may not have space people inhabiting them.
- Space. (Yep, that's a feature now)

It's just, I didn't expect it to include these "features"...

- 18 Fuckbungus planets that look *slightly* different.
- Trading with space people... OH WAIT, MY INVENTORY IS FULL!?
- Fighting with space people who have some really bad AI.
- Fighting in a spaceship with controls that are SO FUCKING SLOW... OR TOO FUCKING FAST. (Pardon my fucking french)
- Too much space. (Yep, still a feature)

You know, it might sound like I hate No Man's Sky, and you're half right. It's just SO tedious and boring, having to refill my ship every 5 seconds is NOT fun. Having an inventory size smaller than a gnat's condom is even worse, and then add in procedural generation that creates a sense of genric-ness and you have a game that is... What's the word? oh, yeah:

BORING

But man, those first couple of hours are so awesome! When the game thrusts you into the universe, and you have to just go and find those resources to repair your ship, that was actually fun! I had a great sense of wonder and awe as I went through the first planet, which had pretty green grass and weird ass creatures. Then you go to a space station, and trade, fight, and then you go down to another planet, and you trade... Mine, and fight.

Then you go to another planet and trade... Mine... And fight more.

And again...

AND AGAIN...

AND FUCKING AGAIN...

So yeah, No Man's Sky is a lot like eating pizza to me, I have one slice, then another... And suddenly, oops, I drop dead from eating 16 whole pizzas. I really wish I loved it, or even liked it. But I just can't, especially when there are games that have SO much more in them for me to play, even games like Fallout 4 would be better, because at least that has fun gameplay. And it doesn't bore me to death. I don't like scoring games so I would rather rate the game on a scale of FUCK YES to Ugh... (FUCK YES being an amazing game, and Ugh... Being a game like Ride to Hell: Retribution)

I would happily rate it a: *Looks at Steam catalog, sees this* Eh. What's the worse that could happen?

Scoring system (For those that even care):

- FUCK YES = Games like The Witcher 3 or Fallout New Vegas in my opinion.

- This is awesome! = Games like XCOM 2 or Max Payne 3, again, in my own opinion.

- This is pretty good. = Games like Fallout 3 or 4.

- *Looks at Steam catalog, sees this* Eh. What's the worse that could happen? = Games like No Man's Sky or SimCity 2013 (Yeah, I know it's for Origin and not Steam).

- Ehh... Not looking so hot. = Games like The Sims 4.

- Ugh... = Games like Ride to Hell: Retribution.

P.S:

I know this was kind of random, but I just kind of wanted to try something a little different and actually give a game a (terrible) review.
