DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Cage recycling
« on: September 12, 2006, 01:28:00 pm »
I just found a way to transfer a hostile creature from one cage to another, without it running loose in your fortress: just build the two cages directly adjacent to each other and you can savely assign the creature to the new cage, reusing the old one in your traps.

DF Bug Reports / guild jobs: bug or feature?
« on: September 10, 2006, 04:34:00 pm »
I have the strong impression that guild job mandats count only jobs done by dwarves with the "right" profession. For example if you have a "House Fer" mandate and train some dogs, the counter will only decrease if the trainer is actually a trapper, but a fisherdwarve training those animals will not count towards the mandate. Is this intended behaviour ?

DF Bug Reports / Value of coins
« on: September 09, 2006, 02:00:00 pm »
One of the last updates had "enlarged coin stack sizes and decreased coin non-currency value". Was it realy intended that coins now all have a trade value of 1$, no matter what material? This somehow makes it rather pointless to make anything other than copper, maybe silver coins from time to time to keep the bookkeeper from going nuts.

DF Bug Reports / Free cheese
« on: September 08, 2006, 03:14:00 pm »
If you make cow milk into cheese at the farmer's workshop you'll get the cheese but the milk will not disappear. Nice way to feed your dwarves, but I think those human traders will be in trouble when their leader recognizes they accidentally have sold magic barrels with the milk.

DF Bug Reports / Are legendary dwarves not in the Guild?
« on: September 07, 2006, 06:33:00 pm »
I got a mandate for doing some carpenter's guild jobs. So my legendary Carpenter started to make some beds, but the mandate counter didn't decrease. After putting a normal dwarve on the job it worked fine. I'm not sure whether this is feature or bug, it could well be that it's intended that legendary dwarves are a kind of freelance artists outside the guild. But it's a bit annoying nevertheless to have to turn your best crafter off to get the job done.

DF Bug Reports / Military screen interface bug
« on: September 18, 2006, 07:47:00 am »
The "squad assignment marker" (*) that highlights the future squad commander seems to correspond to the screen line instead of the actual dwarf. This leads to that marker changing from one dwarve to another if the screen position of the dwarves moves during an asignment to a squad.

DF Suggestions / Dwarves should snatch items from inactive jobs
« on: September 04, 2006, 04:51:00 am »
It just happend to me (again): At the end of winter my dwarves started to starve, completly ignoring the nearly 100 prepared food items - just because those were stuck in the kitchens and not in a fitting stockpile. I finally realized that the reason for this suicidal ignorance probably is that all those meals appeare on the job list as part of inactive (i.e. waiting for a dwarf to perform) "hauling to barrel"-jobs.

At the moment items that are part of those inactive jobs seem to be off-limit for the dwarves when looking for food/materials etc. Would it be possible to make a dwarve that looks and doesn't find an item scan through the list of inactive jobs for a fitting item, snatching that item and cancelling the inactive job?

That would probably help not only with the starving  but with several "stupid behaviour" issues like lye rotting in the ashery or plants being dropped for some reason just lying around, as those all seem to be parts of inactive "hauling to barrel/bag" jobs.

DF General Discussion / Ivory?

Is there any way to get ivory from elephants? Or pearls from mussles etc.

DF General Discussion / How did I make a ruby amulet?
« on: September 05, 2006, 05:30:00 pm »
In my last fortress I suddenly found myself in the posession of a "ruby amulet". As it doesn't have the <brackets> indicating that it's from outside, I somehow must have crafted it myself, but to my knowledge there is no "make gem craft" in any of the workshops.

Just to make it clear this was not an amulet encrusted with rubies (and I actually encrusted it later with some other gems), but seemed to be just like a "onyx" or "horse bone" amulet but made out of a ruby. Has anyone seen this before and knows how to make it?

DF General Discussion / Gnomeblight
« on: September 04, 2006, 04:59:00 am »
I'm now the proud owner of 10 units of bottled Gnomeblight. This "extracting" option of the still is actually good for something  :)
Since Gnomeblight seems to be neither edible nor cookable, is there something you can do with it in the current version? Or is it just a  part of a future potion system?
