DF Modding / Nightmares

I got bored and did a reverse unicorn and made a nightmare.  Untested, but not much changed from the unicorns.

DF Modding / ITEMCORPSE

I am trying to get a creature to drop a new metal I have made.  This will be the only way to get this new metal.  But I can't seem to get it to work, all I get are crashes.  I know I am missing something but I just can't seem to get it to work.  I have tried a few different things but I still get crashes.

Or is this not possible, I am assuming that it is and I am just missing something.  And now I'm frustrated so I can't think straight.  =\

I have the creature made, just having a minor hangup here.  =)

Or, if I could get them to drop "bars" so I don't need to do any smelting that would be nice.  Although Drake Scale Bars don't sound right to me.

Ok, need to go get the frustration level down so I can start making sence and stop rambling...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My dwarf got stuck up in a tree?

I think I may have seen it all now.  I just caused a cave in on top, outside, and I starting walling around it.  Making a pit.  Anyway, I noticed one of my masons showing "No Job".  I zoomed in on him and noticed that he is up a Z level from the ground.  When I looked below him, there was a tree right underneath him.  I think the force from the cave in, he caused it, threw him up into the tree.  Once I cut the tree down, he dropped back down and after the stun wore off he was back to work.

Odd, lol.    :D

DF Gameplay Questions / Imported Equipment

Can I used the armor that I have imported?  I have a set of steel chain +accessories sitting in the trade depot that hasn't moved since traded for.  My weapon/armor stockpile is set up for all but unusable items.  This is making me believe that they can't be used.  

Maybe it's something I'm doing too, don't ever stop learning with this game.   :)

DF Suggestions / Minor stockpile suggestion.

This isn't really that big of a deal, but I though it would be nice if the OTHER section of the stone stockpile could be split.  If it could be split between regular stone and colored stone.  I personally find myself always trying to keep them separate from each other for when I want to add color to my rooms.  Kind of a pain to pick them out from the rest of the stone.  Mainly I don't want my masons or crafters just grabbing a colored stone when I am not ready for the colored yet.

It's not that big of a deal, just one of those minor things that get to me.  

Hmm, while I am at it.  What about alphabetizing the lists in the stockpiles and stocks screen.  Again, another minor thing.

DF Suggestions / Perm Plant Gathering

I think it would be nice to be able to select one area for plant gathering and flag it so that if any plant pops up it is automatically flagged for plant gathering.  Maybe it could be added to the zone menu.  Just a thought...

DF General Discussion / Mods and the new version

First off, hello.  Been playing and lurking for quite a while, at least 3 or 4 months or more.  Figured it was about time I said hello.  I can not get enough of this game.  Curse you Toady for this monster you unleashed upon the world.     :)Anyway I have a few questions and a suggestion.

I know this isn't the suggestions forum, but how about a modder's forum.  This game is going to get bigger than it is already and I have noticed modding posts here and there.  I am sure as the game gets more moddable and popular the posts will grow.  Would be nice to have a one stop shop for any questions related to modding.

My main question is about civilizations.  I am in the process of creating some new civs and was wondering if when the new version comes out will this work be pointless because they won't work with the newest version?  Not sure why they wouldn't but, thought I would ask anyway.

What kind of interaction can I expect with new civs in Fortress mode?  Trading and sieges.  It's a touch hard to test this since it can be years before one sieges you and not sure how to make it for them to trade yet.  I haven't experimented to much, so maybe some of them will trade with me, not sure.  I have been searching the boards and the wiki for general help and come up with some comments about how new civs are selected by picking out of the pot during world gen if there are multiples from the same area, Forrest, Mountain, etc.  I have learned a few other things too that have helped.  I am using the flags [EVIL], [BABYSNACHER], [SIEGE], and [NUISANCE] to try to get some sieges.  In there respective RAW files.  

When I add new civs, I don't notice them in the list when you pick a location for your fortress.  I take it this is just how it is, correct?  Even if it lists Humans, there is actually my custom civ Barbarians?  [ EDIT - Never mind on this, must have been the previous world I generated.  Its showing my custom civs in the lists.]

Right now I have 3 custom civs made.  Barbarians(Plains), Orcs(Mountains), and Sprites(Forests).  During world gen I did notice these were added and am hopeing to have some interaction during Fortress mode.  I would like to be sieged by Barbarians or Orcs.  Including the occasional gobo siege.  I know it all depends on who is picked and where they were placed and what not.
