DF Gameplay Questions / Rescue Prisoner Mission Not Working
« on: December 04, 2017, 06:46:15 am »
When I try to rescue a prisoner from another site, the mission just ends instantly, and the mission log is empty and doesn't move, implying that they never left the tile my fort was on. Is this a bug?

DF Gameplay Questions / Question about Hist Figs
« on: December 04, 2016, 04:08:02 am »
Currently, there is a civ in my world that only has one site that has not been sacked called Dawncaves, and it is a mountain hall a population of 8. Their last site other than this was destroyed in 150, and the world is currently at 1052. Since about 152, the only events in the entire civ has been switches in management.

Despite this, when I look in the administration of the Dwarves, counts and barons are still listed among leadership. The funny part is that the number of nobles exceeds 8, even though that's the population of the entire civ (????)

Looking into it further, the actual groups these people were members of and where they live is a little weird. Here's a picture of Melbil Graniteanguished:

This Dwarf, a countess, currently has her home building in a Goblin occupied hamlet, is a member of the government of the hamlet in question (The Twinkling Doom), and is a "former member" of the government of the single remaining dwarf site while simultaneously still being a member of the civ.
Check out this guy:

What site is this guy a Baron of? Dawncaves already has mayor and a king. So why does this guy even exist? Why is he a baron? Where does he live, and is he counted in the population of 8 Dwarves?

This is less of an actual gameplay question and more of a LARP-y inquiry. What's going on here?

DF Gameplay Questions / FPS Death with 30 pop?
« on: November 28, 2016, 10:09:10 pm »
Most recent version 32-bit, alpha-2 of DFhack, using therapist. FPS is generally at 25-30, but will sometimes perk up to 65-70. Both are too low, as I've usually gotten 150+ FPS with this population size. Seems like my FPS is dying for absolutely unforeseeable reasons? Is it just that the most recent version is badly optimised at 32-bit? I'm only using that version because it works with therapist. Would appreciate some help.

DF Gameplay Questions / Trouble Burying Corpses in Reanimating Biome
« on: November 24, 2016, 11:22:31 pm »
Title. Dwarves will refuse to be bury corpses. I notice specifically once a Dwarf has been reanimated then killed, the sprite of the corpse changes from the default one that it was before. Afterwards, while the corpse will be brought to an available burial, instead of being buried it will just be sat on top of the grave, same with limbs and other bits. After this some other asshole will pick up the job to bury it, walk over, then just pick it up and place it back down on top of the grave. Rinse and repeat this, and the corpse never actually gets placed in the coffin and dorfs run back and forth constantly.

For the most part it will not reanimate since the head is usually pulped from some blunt weapon, but arms and legs sat on it will come back and spook people from time to time. Luckily everyone in the fort is desensitised enough to deal with it.

This leaves me in the weird situation of either making slabs for every single dead dwarf (which is a pain in the ass to manage what with slabs not telling you if they're engraved when you try to build them) or just letting the family members be sad, atom smashing the corpse to avoid reanimation in both cases.

Edit: Didn't really include a question in the thread. So: How to I fix this and get burials to work properly? If that's impossible, what's the next best solution?

DF Gameplay Questions / Marksdwarves warping through fortifications
« on: November 23, 2016, 04:39:51 pm »
I understand dwarves love to hop over walls, but as soon as a goblin get's close to my fortification, the marksdwarves dive through to their death, even though I have a wall built overtop of them to prevent climbing over. What's going on here?

DF Gameplay Questions / How in the high hell do I kill zombie hair?
« on: November 19, 2016, 11:47:07 pm »
I am having issues in a haunted zombie area. I want to atom smash all my refuse, but as soon as I try to carry any of it out of my locked refuse room, it animates itself and attacks. This would normally be no issue with even a single competent soldier, but the issue is that a "zombie head hair" will animate and be unkillable. Normal reanimated hair is no problem and dies very quickly, but the issue is specifically with the HEAD hair. No idea why this is, but all my military dwarves will be unable to damage it, and everyone trying to dump the refuse will automatically aggro it and won't do anything but pound on it. The result is I get half of my fortress all passed out from over-exertion, unwilling to stop beating the shit out of some unkillable zombie hair and I either have to savescum or accept that mostly everyone is going to starve to death trying to kill a hair.

The messages that I get are along the lines of
"The Hammerdwarf bashes the mule head hair in the head with his +silver war hammer+, but the attack glances away!"
"The Hammerdwarf bashes the mule head hair in the head with his +silver war hammer+, but the attack passes right through!"
"The mule head hair pushes the mason in the right upper leg, but the attack passes right through!"
On and on for infinity. How do I fix this?

DF Gameplay Questions / Marching Armies ALWAYS asleep?
« on: May 10, 2016, 04:08:21 pm »
Every time I catch an army in the field, they are all always in tents and they are all always asleep with no way to wake them up. What gives? Is there some secret to this? How do I wake them up? This is a pain because I have no idea who and who isn't my enemy.

DF Gameplay Questions / Everything Being Revealed?
« on: May 07, 2016, 06:18:56 pm »
Randomly while playing, the game will freeze up and stop responding for several seconds, after which I will get the HFS message the the whole map will get revealed, including HFS. All jobs currently active get cancelled with the "Dangerous Terrain" interruption, but continue on as usual afterwards with the whole map revealed. The FPS tanks to single-didgets after unpausing.

The only mods I am using are Dwarf Therapist and DFhack. I tried updating my DFhack but to no avail. It always happens on the same turn and I have to end the process and reload. It has been replicated multiple times.

Is this my fault, DFhack's fault, or a bug in the game? What's the deal with this? Is it a bug and should I report it? If so, how do I avoid it again?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No Goblin Attacks?
« on: March 31, 2016, 02:05:19 pm »
I've played about 3-4 forts in the newest version, and each time Goblins have been listed as a neighbour and an enemy on the neighbours screen, and I still have not encountered any goblin attacks, ambushes, sieges, or even snatchers. My newest fort is right beside a goblin settlement and still no attacks. Is this a bug? What gives?

DF General Discussion / Abundance of Goblins
« on: January 22, 2016, 11:43:28 pm »
So, in recent world gens in the new version, I've been getting a majority of my worlds having a mostly goblin population with many of the others wiped out. Usually on a short-medium genned world, goblins will have ~50% of the population and sometimes another race will be either be extinct or close to it, seemingly with a bias towards Dwarves. They almost always seem to get the short end of the stick, which is weird considering they have a combat advantage.

The longer the gen goes on for, it seems, the stronger the goblins get and the less there are of the other races. Goblins are the weakest race combat wise, why do they seem to be given such an edge during world gen?

Here is a pic of the population numbers in a world that has been going for 550 years, shown in legend viewer:

Has anyone else been getting this?

DF Gameplay Questions / Adventurer Success Report
« on: December 15, 2015, 09:53:47 am »
Hello. I've haven't played adventurer mode since 0.34. I have figured out how to get a task, how to get directions to it, and to converse, etc. However once I've accomplished my task, I have no idea how to report what I've done properly. I can brag about past violent acts and hope I state the hydra I killed instead of a raven I butchered on the way, but this doesn't seem like it is the proper way. I've also figured out that I can summarize a specific event, like my killing of the hydra, but it takes a long-ass time to scroll through every single little bug I stepped on and the filter either doesn't work or I can't figure out how to get it working properly. When I do report a success, I usually get a "It was inevitable" or "It is terrifying" generic response rather than a proper reaction. In addition, when it comes to killing bandits, I can only report the ones that were killed by me and my companions individually by scrolling up and down the list over and over. There has to be some kind of  better way I haven't figured out yet?

« on: October 27, 2015, 06:28:27 pm »
I've started playing after a long time of inactivity and I'm trying to dig a basic hole in the wall to live in and the cavern keeps collapsing and killing people for absolutely no reason and I have no idea what to do. Help me out. Are physics different now?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Bay12 Space Program - Revengance
« on: December 20, 2013, 07:19:06 pm »
The Bay 12 Space Program
Thats right, I'm bringing it back, baby!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information (Read this first!)
This is a revamp of an old topic from a long while ago that I started by accident (found here; http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=113434.msg3457271#msg3457271). It went on pretty well for quite a long while (We even had DZA in on it!), but eventually died after about 190-ish pages once I went inactive on the forums.
But now, I'm back, and I'm not about to give up my dream of colonizing space because some thread went inactive somewhere. So, I'm
revamping this idea in hope than, one day, we will* reach the stars!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction

Here, our highly trained** group of scientists, engineers, strategists, biologists, psychologists, and horologists, dream that we, Bay12, will* rule the stars with a steel ≪+fist+≫ (Menacing with spikes of pig bone). This dream may seem far off, but with hard work and great amounts of dedication, I believe that the Earth will* be ours! Er... I should censor that....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary
For now, this is were you just talk about random things that have to do with colonizing space, to come up with new ideas, and to just discuss the program in general. The reason this thread exists, is to seed new ideas that can contribute the the program in the future.

DF General Discussion / DF livestream! Yay! Woo!
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:36:05 pm »
Eyyyyy
So, I usually do livestreams each weekend, and they're amazing. However, the reason I put this fancy ol' thread here is because I just bought a second monitor and a better microphone, and as such, I'm going to be streaming for 5 to six hours tonight and quite a bit tomorrow, all of DF and maybe a few similar roguelikes.

The livestream will consist of my masterwork fort that has banned bridges, and my vanilla DF fort in which I will built a meag structure of the viewers choice! Yay! I might also play a few other roguelikes, such as CataclysmDDA (open world zombie survival), and Brogue (a dungeon crawler with amazing ASCII graphics)

Possible venues at this get together include, but are not limited too:
Naming Dwarves
Me being funny
Me building a mega structure
End of list.

S'yeah. I've gotten arguably funnier than my last big stream, so thats a plus.... ish. Feel free too Please join in!

Edit: Done for today, continuing tomorrow!

DF Gameplay Questions / Is a lead mace feasable?
« on: February 23, 2013, 09:53:59 pm »
I just got an artifact lead mace. Now, the first thing I though was that it would be amazing, because lead is very heavy, more so than silver. However, woulden't that cause the Dwarf using to to move slow? And I'm sure lead isn't the strongest metal.

I looked it up on the wiki, and it just said lead was heavy and took a long time to move.

So would it work against Elves? If it doesn't work, at least it will poison them in the long run.
