Forum Games and Roleplaying / Everything is David Lynch (Suggestion game)
« on: December 18, 2015, 01:10:48 am »
The stench of smoke lies heavy in the air. The cold, unyielding mass of concrete presses into your back. Every tendon in your body aches with the resounding impact. The crackling of flames licks at the corners of your consciousness.

Your name doesn't matter. All that matters now is what you can do.

Prioritize your Physical, Mental, and Social attributes. If you wanted to be very physical, write it as 1) Physical, 2) Mental, 3) Social. The first selection will recieve the most points. Then, specify what about that attribute you are best at. For Physical, that would be Strong, or Quick. For Mental, that would be Logical, or Intuitive. For Social, that would be Willful or Charismatic. A valid vote would be structured as such: 1) Physical (Quick), 2) Mental (Logical), 3) Social (Willful)

Prioritize your Physical, Social, and Technical skills. For Physical, you can specify Watchful, or Dangerous. For Social, you can specify Persuasive, or Shadowy. For Technical, you can specify Concrete, or Abstract. A valid vote would be structured like so: 1) Social (Persuasive), 2) Physical (Watchful), 3) Technical (Abstract).

Assume the world to be modern day. People are a little less likely to travel, and telecommunications are a bit less reliable, but on the whole, it is very familar to us. Non serious, comedy oriented, or strange votes/suggestions will not be accepted at my discretion. That's not to say I don't appreciate levity, but keep it....reasonable, mmkay?

You ever consider stabbing your buddy? That loot ninja asshole who won't shut up about "THE STORY OF HIS PEOPLE"? Now's your chance.

You remember the golden days of DOOM and Quake? Brutal no-holds barred murder fests into the small hours of the morning? How about Halo 2 after class for what felt like days?

This is Fourthcore Team Deathmatch. This is what happens when a bunch of dudes look at D&D and decide that not enough people have died yet. Team-based, cooperative, fast paced murder-blitz action. Fourthcore Team Deathmatch is a game of skill, wits, and strategy. Fourthcore Team Deathmatch is a game about winning D&D.

Interested?

Games will be played on Roll20, with dates decided by the individual teams involved, within reason. I am in the PST timezone, but I have a lot of time available.

Spoiler: DA RULZ (click to show/hide)

Spoiler:  CHARGEN INFO (click to show/hide)

You only make one character, but you need to partner up with three other players to create a team. Give your team a name, and a colour, something to strike fear into your enemies! Whem making your character, post a sheet (in text) to the thread, edited into your sign up post. We'll also have your sheet in Roll20, so everyone can look at each other's sheets. There is no hidden information here, only violence! Please cite where your powers and such are taken from. Dragon Magazine is, with the exception of the backgrounds from the Scales of War Article, totally allowed.  You'll also need to provide me with a token I can use for you.

To sign up, just post your interest and available times so other players can see it and you can form a team without time zones getting in the way. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

A limited number of pre-made dungeoneers will be available, if you have no idea what you are doing.

When in doubt, Kill more, Die less.

This, my friend, is a project a long time in the making. See, Shadowrun is a rather complex game. Asking new players to make characters is a bit like asking a complete idiot to perform rocket science. Nothing works, nothing is on time, everything is on fire, etc.

No, what the bollocks is a "Shadowrun"

It's a roleplaying game, set in 2072. Long story short, magic returned in 2012, things went to shit, cyberpunk dystopian future. Got it?

You play as "Shadowrunners", criminals hired for deniable operations by any number of players in the Sixth World, usually Megacorperations, but almost anyone could contract a shadowrunner to achieve something illegal, immoral, or both. Complete your missions, get paid, live the high life, all while staying one step ahead of the myraid threats looking to make your shadowrunning career a short one.

To do something, you roll a number of d6s equal to your character's attribute, plus their skill and any modifiers. Every 5 or 6 is a "hit". The more of these you get, the better.

You will need a copy of the shadowrun 4th edition core rulebook to play, preferably the 20th anniversary edition.

Now that the first mission is over, you get to make your own characters! take into account the changes below. If you want to play a decker or rigger, PM me, there's a fairly extensive houserule change to how that works.

Didn't you just make a thread like this?

Well, yes, but this is for a different timeslot. That totally counts. These are /totally/ seperate games
'

To sign up, simply post your interest, and send me a text based character sheet over forum PM

So what's all this garbage?

This, my friend, is a project a long time in the making. See, Shadowrun is a rather complex game. Asking new players to make characters is a bit like asking a complete idiot to perform rocket science. Nothing works, nothing is on time, everything is on fire, etc.

Now, you know how I mentioned that this was a new player friendly game? Rather than have players create characters, I have made a list of premade characters. If you select one, i'll send you their stats and gear, and allow you to fill out the things left undefined, like name, sex, knowledge skill, and other things left up to player discretion. The game will be played over IRC, and the channel and server will be PM'd to the players.

'

To sign up, simply post your interest, and what character listed above interests you. First come, first served! If the time slot doesn't work for you, don't worry. Another version of this game will be posted for a Friday, 6 PM PST timeslot.

All characters gain 500 nuyen, and one month of low lifestyle for free

So what's all this then?

It's a game of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, 2nd edition, in a version of the world that is more grimdark than usual.

That's pretty grim. And Dark.

It totally is. But mostly for other people. Can't exactly get much worse than playing in Warhammer Fantasy, yeah? Well, there are some "Extended" Critical hit tables that make your choice of weapon a little more important, and make combat a little less lethal (provided you can get medical attention of any description)

So, how does this work?

Well, I was thinking about a Monday, 5 PM PST timeslot, but i'm open for others to give me an idea. Anyways, here's how it's gonna go down. I will set up an IRC for the playing of the game. If you're interested in the game, you will be given three (3) randomly rolled characters, and you get to pick your choice out of the three, and Bob's your uncle. Things like having enough food, having required gear, and all sort of things are going to be tracked, so all characters will start with some of their money spent on various items related to not dying.

None of the character's will have pre-rolled fluff traits, like hair colour and eye colour, so feel free to do the various things you like to do with those.

And if i'm intrested?

Just post below, and i'll get with you as soon as I see it.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Warhammer Gladiator Arena (Forum Game)
« on: June 15, 2014, 10:10:51 pm »
In the grimdark past of fantasy Europe, there is only war.

Or Fantastic Prizes!

As newly rich merchants or members of the old noble houses, you have a lot of money to burn, and within the walls of the great port of Marienburg, there's quite a lot to spend it on. Drawn to the shiny new arena, you think on just how hard it would be to enter the gladiator business, and just how much money you stand to gain...

When you have purchased a gladiator, Copy Paste his sheet into your Stable post, so that he can be removed from the general pool

Hello, and welcome, to another game. No, i'm not dropping the other games, you can relax :p

This game will be done fortnightly, over IRC, in a channel yet to be determined, likely on a friday or saturday, or perhaps sunday, maybe even a weekday if desired,  towards the evening side of PST.

As this is black crusade, YOU are the "Villains". As such, your goals should be proactive in nature. You cause the trouble, not react to it. Weather for causes noble, or foul, the world will react to your actions.  As your infamy grows, new powers, new weapons, new options will await you. Will you alone ascend to become a mighty Daemon Prince, or will you be felled like all the rest?

A couple houserul-y things:

You can be either a Human or Chaos Space Marine
We're using point buy, and your infamy is automatically treated as a 24.
The archtypes in the core book gain as follows:
Humans gain an additional 4600 XP, in addition to their starting 1000. This grants them 20 corruption and 12 additional infamy.
Space Marine characters begin with an additional 3600 experience, in addition to their starting 500. They are granted an additional 15 corruption, and 9 infamy.
Archtypes from other books are permitted, but they gain 500 starting XP if chaos marine, or only 1000 starting XP, if human. This also grants the humans an additional 5 corruption, and 3 infamy

It's only natural that such well advanced heretics would have gained additional gear- you may ask for a reasonable number of items to compliment your character, and I will likely grant them. If you're improvising a Death Guard plague marine, for instance, asking for a Power Scythe and extra blight grenades would be fine. Humans will have more leniency in terms for this. Just keep it about in line with the existing archtypes, and you should be fine. You still get your free pieces of gear as well

Your mutation rolls will be done when you've got everything picked out. Alignment is done as you buy, totalled up at the end.

This will be a Sandbox game. Ship rules if required, can be found in Rogue Trader.

Link to Science Thread
Link to War Room

Q: So what's this thread about?

A: This thread is for an exciting Hybrid  game,  where some players take the roll of X-COM units in the field, and others take the role of scientists and engineers, making and producing the equipment their lives depend on.

Q: Cool, can I play?

A: Sure, just sign up for an X-COM slot and take your pick of the pre-rolled soldiers. If you'd rather go for science and engineering, even easier! Just post in the Science/Engineering thread with your votes for the next research project, or request whatever you've already researched to be made. the X-COM Funding council may not approve use of funds, but other times they might. Votes can also be made as to the equipment of newly created soldiers. New Soldier specializations will be unlocked with research.

Q: Can I make a custom soldier?

A: In the spirit of X-Com, you can only select a unit from the random pool (which is upcoming). You can, however, apply modifications to the weapon issued to you, as detailed in the Only War rulebooks. You also can spend the XP left over from character creation, name him, all that good stuff. If he's injured, you get first dibs when he's back on his feet.

Q: How are we going to play?

A: Over roll20, at a time for the X-COM units intrested in a given mission. PST preferable, so if you can't make it in that time zone easily, you may prefer to stick to science.

Q: how does engineering work?

A: X-COM has a funding value, which works like the profit factor in rogue trader. It can be increased by doing well, and will drop when not. Simply buying objects will not decrease the funding value. This funding can be used to create anything that has been properly researched, buy more soldiers (up to the barracks limit), and otherwise make sure the brave men at X-COM don't die on you.

Q: What books do I need?

A: The Only War Core Book, and Hammer of the Emperor. If you're a forum player, nothing.

Q: What do I do when i've spent the XP?

A: Post your finished soldier in the War Room.
SOLDIER POOL (First come, first served. More will be added over time)

More soldiers being added!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Roguelike Blues [AD&D]
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:22:15 pm »
Have you ever pined for the tabletop equivalent of Nethack? A procedurally generated world of mystery, magic, and monsters? Did you ever want to know how the dice hate you? Did you ever want to see what early D&D was like without the relentless DM screw yous?

Well, now's your chance. As the name implies, I will be Randomly Generating Everything in an AD&D campaign. I am using the core rules, and Unearthed Arcana, and a few dragon magazine bits I can bring up when they are relevant. You will need the 1st edition PHB, and a copy of Unearthed Arcana, no questions asked. Non-weapon proficencies will be fudged: You write down, say, Chirugery as a NWP, and i'll dig up some rules for sewing people back together.

Poison is allowed, provided you have contacts in the assassin's guild (Bards, thieves, Assassins have them automatically). Alignment is a sort of team flag: It has no bearing on what people actually do- Both a CE warlord and a LG paladin may raze a village, but the Paladin will give a speech on the horrors of just war.  Alignment language is your respective team's secret codes and handshakes.

I think this will be an IRC game, undecided on time, but probably sunday.

Monk as written sucks, if you want to play a monk, talk to me, I have a fix.

Psionics as written suck. If you want to use the power of the mind, talk to me- there's a class for that.

You can just take Bard as a class if you can meet the pre-reqs.

It's worth noting that there are /5/ character generation methods. When you decide if you're intrested, tell me which one you would like to use, and i'll roll it up for you

Method 1: Roll 4d6, drop lowest, arrange as desired.

Method 2: roll 3d6 12 times, arrange six as desired

Method 3: roll 3d6 down the line for each stat, but roll each stat six times and take the best

Method 4: roll 3d6 down the line 12 times, pick the result of your choice.

Method 5: For humans only, select your class. Secret formulae are rolled, and you recieve at least, the minimum required to get into that class.

Non-humans can multiclass as normal, and do not have level limits.

Any questions?

FAQ

What is this Thread?

This thread is a pseudo RtD conversion of the A Series Modules of 1st edition AD&D, for forum enjoyment.

How is it played?

These modules used pre-generated characters, so pick one. It's on a first come, first served basis. If you don't get one, feel free to mercilessly taunt the Doomed lucky sods. This is, after all, open to the peanut gallery. It uses qst edition AD&D ruleset, which more or less comes down to "Describe an action and i'll roll some dice". When you post an official action, Please Bold your action. Fancy colours optional.

How serious is this?

Not at all. There is one thread, nothing is in character, and anyone is free to post concerning what direction the party should take/what to do with the bodies/etc. Only actions by people with characters are officially counted.

Is this similar to the tomb of horrors thread?
Yes :v

You mentioned Pre-generated Characters?

There are nine Avalible, as follows:
Spoiler: Male Human Fighter 5 (click to show/hide)
Spoiler:  Male Human Cleric 6 (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Male Halfling Thief 5 (click to show/hide)

What do those spiffy items do?

What it says on the tin.  Exact information is for the players of those characters.

How long will this go for?

Until the players are all dead, or if they win.

Who will roll the dice?

I will, just declare your actions. Creative use of materials and tactics is encouraged.

Can we make our own characters?

Nah, just use one of the pre-made bags of meat.

Can a non-player post in the thread?

Yep! Feel free to commentate, mock them, suggest a course of action, and so on.

What modules are going to be played?

The A series of tournament modules. Complete with Arbitary scoring!

So come one, come all, to the spectacle of the meatgrinder that is early D&D! First come, first served.

Game Tips

Everything Burns.

Poison is deadly, but holy water can treat it.

Trust nothing you haven't identified.

Chances to break open doors and break steal bars depend on strength- stronger characters are better at doing this

Creative Projects / Wrex's Campaign Setting Corner
« on: April 09, 2013, 11:15:52 pm »
So, I oftentimes have a lot of ideas that I can't immediatly put to use due to time and stamina constraints. I thought It would be a good idea to put my future possible campaign notes up somehwere where I can get critique, and as a possible insurance against future issues.

So without Further ado.....

[Currently Untitled] (Working Title, obviously :p)

Premise: A cyberpunk dystopian future, in which a malign supernatural force manipulates the world. The players have become aware of this influence.
System: D20 Modern, with D20 Future, D20 Past, D20 Cyberscape, and some of D20 Future tech. Select bits of Urban Arcana and Apocalypse can be used on request (For example, Hedge Wizard is an appropriate background for someone who has dabbled with the Void)
Technology level: Modified PL6 (Cybernetics PL 7). Occultist, Spiritualist, and Mesmerist permitted.
Tone: Dark. The world of the future is not a nice place.

It is the year 2197. 15 years since the first permanent moon colony, for the nouveau riche, has begun operation. Urban sprawl envelops most of the world, and rising pollution is a constant concern. Global warming has shifted weather patterns signifcantly. With the growing gap between the rich and poor, and the steadily dying middle class, civil unrest has become an epidemic accross the globe. Increasingly repressive governments cling tenaciously to power, while street gangs own many lower income neighborhoods. For many, life is depressing, painful, and exhausting. Which is exactly how the Void wants it.

The Void is an ancient force of great, if subtle power. It draws it's nourishment from the suffering, both physical and mental, of sentient life. When it encountered earth, it saw a rich feeding ground, but one that could be improved. And it set to work, corrupting prominent individuals to enact repressive laws, increasing commercialization, and investing it's dark power in those it saw fit. Creatures of the Void are, in large part, undetectable for what they are. A ghoul is an unwashed bum, A demon but a street punk with a lot of piercings. The Heroes, for whatever reason, have had a close encounter with the agents of the Void, and have seen through this fascade. The beasts appear exactly as they are. Many, with this newfound knowledge, go into hidng, go insane, or drug themselves into insensibility. The Heroes are made of sterner stuff. They meet through a mutual acquaintence, who explains that these beasts aren't just a hallucination- they are real. What the PC's do is then up to them.

Rules changes(In development): Man-Portable energy weapons simply aren't in wide use, due to massive expense. Such technology is simply not for sale at any price, although liberating it from corporate hands is obviously a possibility. PL5 firearms (Read, what we consider modern) are at -2 cost, due to the economy of scale. Cybernetics are at -2 price as well- they are extremely common. The "Piece of your soul" rules are used for cybernetics. PC's may play as a Biodroid, but no other kind of robot (The others are either not yet invented, or simply not sentient). "Magic" is derived from the Void, or awareness thereof, and is extremely rare. Magic items can not be bought, but may be found, or awarded via class feature. Psionics is an entirely different can of worms- The prescense of the Void sparked this ability, but it can neither control nor grant this ability in any way. Mutation rules are used, mutations generally arising from genetic experiments or a strain of contagious retrovirus. PC"s recieve Maximum HP per die, and Fractional BAB/Saves are in effect. Most humans are implanted with ID chips with integrated nanobeacon, but the Player's chips have either been destroyed, forged, or otherwise hacked into being nonfunctional or selectively functional. Most of the guns in D20 weapons locker are horrifically overpriced, so  they should be treated as having a Purchase DC of the nearest comparable weapon in the core rules. The "Grey Wealth" Rules on pg 76 of d20 Cyberscape replace the normal black market rules, except that you can take 10 or 20 on a grey market wealth check. VRNet and HINet both exist.

-Vedning machines full of guns removed, didn't pan out as well as i'd hoped-

Hades. The very name conjures images of infinite plains of despair, husks drained of all life wandering the ashen wastes in search of fresh souls to feast upon.  The very being of the plane sucks all vitality from those who would presume to master it. The Blood War rages on it's dreary terrain, as the hordes of the Abyss clash with the disciplined ranks of Baator for control of portals, larva orchards, and soul veins. Cruel yugoloths stalk the barren landscape looking for victims to enslave. This is not a place for the weak, the average, or the mundane, right?

You would be wrong. Even here, life finds a way. Hades is a greedy, grasping plane, always seeking to leech the vitality from other planes of existence. Where they touch creates a breach, a place where planar energies intermingle, and the essence of that other plane surges forth, creating an area protected from the draining energy of the plane. And here are where cities are built, grain is grown, swords are honed. It's not much of a living, but for the poor saps enmeshed behind the walls, it's the only one they know.

You are all here, in the city of Davenhall. Built into a breach from the elemental plane of earth, Davenhall is one of the most well protected locations on the plane, and is neutral ground in the Blood War. You, whoever you are, live here. Unlike the vast majority of the hapless sods jockying for a pit to sleep in, you possess both talent and the tools to exploit it. You have been hired to guard a caravan as it transports an important message to the nearby city of Minos. For some of you, this is just another glimpse into the hellish wastes beyond the gates. For other's, it is their first glimpse of a world hostile beyond all imagination.

Medium of play: IRoll20
System: Legend 1.0 content, will be PM'd  to all players.
Avalible player slots: 0 (Shinotsa, Red, Alexor, and Caellath)
Day and time: TBD.
*Number may change.
