DF Suggestions / Job Priorities
« on: May 02, 2018, 11:53:45 pm »
Give us the ability to manually choose which jobs take priority over others. Or, better yet: The same, but on a per dwarf basis. There's nothing that makes me scream like all my miners and builders stopping their jobs when I'm doing a huge project because a wagon exploded and dropped 5 pages of vendor trash on my lawn. On the other hand I want them to be hauling when I don't have any mining or building for them to do. So I'd like to be able to tell them to do their actual jobs in favor of other available tasks. But still do those other tasks on the side.

It would also help with issues like noone ever bringing prisoners or hospital patients water or booze.

You have a nightmare about elephants. One about flooding. One about mass hysteria. And one about a forgotten beast. All in one night!

Good grief what the heck is wrong with me.

Some animals in the game are actually substantially *less* hostile than they are in real life. Surprisingly. A good example I noticed recently was the dreaded hippo. Derpy, obese. A favorite of children everywhere. Little do most people know they are the single most territorial animal in africa, and will happily crush an entire pride of lions to death with its jaws if they go into its territory.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRchgTun0_s

This to the point they can apparently intimidate entire prides of lions into fleeing *their* territory.

Real life hippos are known for murdering anything that so much as looks at them funny.

That in mind: Any chance we can get the aggressiveness of certain, oft overlooked but extremely hostile herbivores *increased*  :P

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Regarding Hippos
« on: April 30, 2018, 02:48:21 pm »
Just had some migrate onto my fortress. Caught a few in cage traps. Knowing stories in days of old of mighty rampaging elephants and other berserk wildlife, I was of course intimidated....except

Quote
Hippos are large amphibious creatures who can be found in tropical lakes and rivers, where they appear in clusters of 3 to 7 individuals. They are the largest mundane animals who may be found in freshwater, though unlike in real life, in-game hippos are benign meanderers who will rarely fight back if threatened, though they may potentially be deadly due to their large size and tendency to knock or herd dwarves into rivers. An infant hippo is known as a hippo calf.

...So. Why are hippos the only creature in dwarf fortress that's LESS aggressive than it is in real life? Real life hippos are about as mean as elephants in dwarf fortress used to be. Hahahahhahaha...

Real talk: I wasn't really sure where to ask this so I just made a topic.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Couple of questions about raids
« on: April 28, 2018, 10:56:15 pm »
One: How do I find the kobold civ in the Civilizations menu that I've had contact with? Can't find the cave of the buggers anywhere. No I didn't turn show caves on. I didn't think it would be necessary to change the advanced options just to raid someone.

Two: How much firepower do I have to bring to fight the Clown that runs the nearby Goblin civ? I had forgotten about them when I decided to see if my army of twenty super soldiers could take on literally thousands of goblins (they could indeed. But 3 of them died to the Clown because I forgot about that detail, and I seek revenge).

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Capturing Godzilla
« on: April 27, 2018, 11:08:45 pm »

My hyper elite military has killed several FBs already, fairly effortlessly. That's not a problem. But I decided I want to try catching this one, but am afraid I'm not familiar with the strategies used to get around [TRAPAVOID]. Anyone have any tips? This thing seems to like murdering elk birds, incidentally. It's killed so many of the bloody things it got a last name. (And GCS, and trolls...and anything else unlucky enough to spawn down there. It keeps burning them all to ash.)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Children immune to justice?
« on: August 11, 2014, 11:21:53 pm »
I recently had an immense amount of children throwing tantrums, injuring people, breaking things, getting people killed, etc etc, and while attempting to dispense dwarven JUSTICE, I found that all of the convicted children had [no sentence pending].

So, from what I can tell, children receive no punishment no matter what they do, while they seem to be committing about 90% of the crimes right now, comprise half my population, and are effectively of no advantage to keep as i have nearly 200 dwarves. (had over 200 before the crimes started). This is kind of a problem.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Merchants brought me barrels of crow blood.
« on: August 09, 2014, 07:45:20 am »
The human caravan arrived. I unloaded on them several dozen thousand worth of gold craft, and found they had...barrels of crow blood...um...why would they sell this to me?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Best way to cull my infants?
« on: August 08, 2014, 02:34:18 am »
I have a problem: Namely, of my 101 dwarves, 34 are children and infants, and I'm currently experiencing IMMENSE lag, so I figure, culling 1/3 the population of my fort via mass infanticide would probably do the trick, the only problem is, I can't find a single damn way to lure them all to their deaths at once. Help me forumgoers. How can I correct this error?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / A zombie stopped me from sleeping
« on: August 01, 2014, 02:23:13 am »
so, turns out undead are REALLY bugged this version, in addition to attacking their masters, necromancers, and other such silliness, upon trying to sleep in a necromancer tower as a vampire, a zombie asked me if they could help me with something...

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Vampire lovers?
« on: July 28, 2014, 12:27:40 am »
Lot of problems with vampires in the new version. Specifically the NPCs, one, townsfolk never seem to attack them, likely related to them not attacking me, they don't seem to turn hostile upon being revealed. the townsfolk even get ANGRY with me for killing them. Instead of attacking me they run into the distance never to be seen again, for no apparent reason. If they are gonna do that I expect at LEAST for an angry mob to chase after them.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / What is wrong with necromancers?
« on: July 26, 2014, 06:01:40 pm »
I turned into a necromancer as my previous adventurer, and, after killing a minotaur, i revived it, and it remained hostile to me. I witnessed a similar thing happen to the good old folks at vinesauce playing the most recent version and, I seem to have concluded that in this edition, creatures retain the same hostilities they had before being raised as zombies, which includes LIKELY HOW MOST NECROMANCERS GAINED THEIR CORPSES (meaning if you kill something and then raise it as undead, it will head over to you to continue trying to kill you). Any idea what's up with that? This seems rather silly.

So, upon engaging the legendary Planepacked glitch, I produced this lovely...wooden figurine...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

or for a text version:
http://pastebin.com/siNL7szq

So, to start off, I learned this object is a figurine, which apparently has no function other than being sold to caravans...which you can't DO with artifacts...so this is by far the most useless outcome imaginable, especially considering it took over a hundred logs, and is worth 140,400...so that's one valuable entirely worthless object. and i can't even put it in a room to be admired by random passersby...

Side note, does anyone know what "On the item is an image of tapered baguette cut gems in pine." means? I know what all the individual words are, but together they make no sense...also at least once the guy depicted a tree, who's wood he had access to, using the wood from ANOTHER tree...

Any ideas about this, or what I should do with it?
