DF Gameplay Questions / Memorials question
« on: August 05, 2012, 01:04:24 pm »
So I've had a pretty busy year and am just getting into the 2012 version of DF.

I had a mason roasted by a fireball and burned up so I'm trying to memorialize him so he doesn't come back to haunt me.

I constructed some slabs in the mason's shop. They are in the stockpile and are constructable so not flagged for hauling or anything like that. I set up the engrave memorial job in the craft shop and it is immediately cancelled because "needs unengraved slab". What gives?

DF Gameplay Questions / My ducks are covered with honey
« on: February 24, 2011, 01:22:57 pm »
Actually it's royal jelly, but that doesn't have the same ring.

The question is, why? They are restricted to a pasture a good 20 tiles away from my beehives and away from my food stockpiles.

DF Gameplay Questions / Teaching and training
« on: October 20, 2010, 06:36:18 pm »
I've never been able to get my dwarves to train in any other way than individual combat drills. Furthermore, they seem to level up one or two skills(like fighting and dodging) to legendary pretty quickly, while things like weapon skills are still dabbling. Most of the time they are using the correct weapons and armor, although they seem to switch them out a lot. So how does one get dwarves to do demonstrations and/or sparring? I'm not really interested in things like danger rooms.

Not sure whether this is a bug or I'm just having a brain fart. Surely someone has done this before, but how do you get out of this screen?

If I hit g or a it just adds that letter to the text box.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / das Fische
« on: November 07, 2007, 07:59:00 pm »
My fort was going along pretty well when my first wave of immigrants came along. Of course they had to follow the river's edge as they came. Then..

Cue ranger joke here.

Elephant of the deep.

With a limb fetish.

The last image is edited a little to show the riverbed and bank at the same time. That bridge is the only entrance to my fort, so I'm pretty much under siege at the moment. Guess I need to train some speardwarves.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarves naming swallowmen
« on: December 29, 2007, 03:38:00 am »

I've never seen this before. These guys haven't killed any dwarves, or anything else that I have seen. In fact, even though they are everywhere i don't recall seeing any dwarves canceling jobs because of them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / mud/dirt
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:57:00 am »
Is there any way to remove those mud/dirt tiles that remain for years after a portion of your fortress has flooded? They seem to be preventing the human caravans from reaching my trade depot.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Drought?
« on: September 18, 2006, 07:47:00 am »
In my current game I just entered my third winter. I had no floods all summer, and therefor no farming as I rely on the Nile method.

Is there something I did that caused this or is it just a random occurance? Usually I get at least 2 or 3 floods a year.

DF Gameplay Questions / batman seige
« on: November 02, 2007, 09:45:00 am »
I have a single batman holding my entire fortress under siege. He's hovering one level up just outside my gate and none of my dwarves will go near him other than the marksdwarves. They've shot off all their bolts long ago and now just stand around underneath him scratching their beards. It has effectively brought my fort grinding to a halt.

The problem as I see it is it is way too hard for marksdwarves to hit something one level above them. They have no problem hitting the same creatures on the same level as themselves. Other than building archer towers all over there seems to be no way to deal with flying enemies.

DF Gameplay Questions / coke
« on: October 29, 2007, 08:19:00 pm »
I ended up on a treeless map. Fortunately I had several exposed coal veins. The problem is, if I try to make coke, it uses one coke and one coal ore and I only end up with one coke. Am I missing something or is this a bug?

DF Gameplay Questions / magma flow
« on: July 29, 2007, 06:43:00 pm »
I tried using the flow.exe utility on the wiki to change a magma-filled channel into a magma flow. However it only changed it into "magma". It is now neither a flow nor a channel. Has anyone else had experience with using this utility? Is there a way to fix it now or do I need to just write the fortress off?

DF Gameplay Questions / Art defacement
« on: December 17, 2007, 02:02:00 pm »
I have a legendary carpenter who keeps getting his masterpieces destroyed. The thing is, I can't figure out what's getting destroyed. All he's made is beds, barrels, buckets and bins. None of those should rot and none are getting dropped in magma or anything. I'm not getting messages about anything being stolen, and it's unlikely that thieves would get as far as my furniture stockpiles anyway.

So far I have managed to calm him down without any major mishaps other than a bridge destroyed and a peasant in bed with a broken head. But it keeps repeating. Any ideas?

DF Bug Reports / legendary bookkeeper
« on: December 25, 2007, 05:12:00 pm »
I searched the known bugs for this so forgive me if it has already been noted.

My bookkeeper is so good he can count the webs of spiders in an undiscovered cave inside my mountain.
