Other Games / Folk Tale
« on: June 08, 2013, 12:19:06 pm »
YARR HARR YE SCALLYWAGS OF BAY12,
I come seeking advice from the best.  I'm considering buying the new indie title 'Folk Tale' in it's Early Release thingy-ma-bob on Steam, so I was wondering if anyone had any of their OWN dangerous opinions to voice and risk being shot down in flames.  Now if this post has already been made and the Search I did turned up faulty, someone please direct me in the right direction and launch this OP into the next Oblivion.  If, however, BY SOME LUCKY STARS, a Folk Tale thread has not been started, consider this also a discussion topic and enjoy.

Other Games / Capsized Steam key!
« on: May 31, 2013, 03:46:13 pm »
HI HO HUM BAY12ERS!

Once again the great gods of Steam has blesséd me with a key for a game.  This time it's Capsized: an exciting 2d scroller game where you shoot and bash up monsters.  You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll be dragged into the incredible storyline that underlines this beautiful indie title (seriously, they should hire me for PR).

*UPDATE!*  A friendly external donator has lent his key to the cause, ramping the total potential winners up to A MIND BLOWING TWO!

Rules are simple:  anyone can enter as long as you're a baywatcher and say something like: "Pick me!"  The lucky winner will be announced on Sunday 2nd of June at 12:01 PM GMT time.

Well, the results are in, and I'm gald to announce the two lucky winners are: FUZZWADDLE AND TEOLEO!  CONGRATULATIONS YOU LUCKY BUGGERS!!!
If you could send me a PM so I know you're active I'll throw you the keys back

Thank you to everyone who participated and my heart goes out to the unfortunates who didn't quite get randomly picked - BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME EH?!

Other Games / Total War: Shogun 2 Vouchers!
« on: May 14, 2013, 10:47:24 am »
                             HAIL YE CENTURIONS OF BAY12:
Today I received an impromptu letter from Steam with tidings of new items in my inventory.  I know what you're thinking; "But mighty Vespulan, surely these vouchers were for a free version of DOTA 2, we have enough of them!".  AU CONTRAIRE!  I am overjoyed to inform you these items were, instead, three vouchers proffering me 75% off Shogun 2  - A mighty game by any man's bearings (you know it'll be good when you can make two different hot drinks in the time it takes to start up).

I am starting this thread so that if anyone would like one or if anyone else has been gifted with similar vouchers, they might all be posted here so men and women can come and lay their hands at our feet and beg us for mercy a voucher.

          GOOD LUCK NOBLE GULL-CATCHERS!  Vespulan.

Life Advice / Sleep Paralysis
« on: April 07, 2013, 04:21:31 am »
Okay then fellow Bay12ers, I don't know of how much help any of you can be or if any of you have ever experienced the same thing, but I had a rather terrifying experience just after I woke up (or before, I don't really know...).  Basically, I'm quite a lucid dreamer so I often get dreams where I can control my own movements (I even had a fight with an old Physics teacher in one of them) and I've noticed these often happen just as I'm waking up and drifting between (un) consciousness.  Anyway, this morning I woke up (I think) and tried to move my head, but couldn't - as though I was paralysed.  I tried moving my fingers and legs but got the same response.  I immediately assumed I was either having a lucid dream or my muscles had just failed to wake up yet.  You can imagine my surprise when I heard footsteps in my room (unable to turn my head to look at the cause) and a kind of whispering.  And then, with the full effect of a jumpscare in Amnesia, a weird dark face appeared that seemed to have a really long neck.  I never saw the body and I woke up/woke MORE up just as it leaned really close to my chest.  This  is probably one of the most frightening things I've ever had happen to me, so I looked it up and found stuff about Sleep Paralysis.  I easily fall into the candidates for it because I almost always sleep on my back and have had some pretty terrible sleep timetabling recently.  So what I was wondering is if anyone else has had something similar?  If so, how do you avoid/stop it?

Vespulan.   P.S. I don't think it can be Genetic because my parents hadn't even heard of it and none of my siblings suffer either.

Other Games / Far Cry 3 Technical problems
« on: January 03, 2013, 05:11:45 am »
   HEY GUYS!

I did a search on Bay12 and couldn't find a relevant topic (I may just have missed it or been looking in the wrong place) but I recently bought Far Cry 3 and quickly became savy to poor FPS and Nvidia driver issues, so I decided to start a topic that people can post suggestions/more information about and so forth.

Basically, the issue I have is my system (CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 840 @3.2Ghz, GPU: Nvidia EVGA GTX 570 1280mb, RAM: 8GB DDR3 @1333) is well inside the recommended area and the 'optimal' settings Far Cry 3 gave me was Very High with MSAA x2 and V-Sync 1 Frame.  However, playing at those settings is impossible due to framerate dropping to <20 whever I move the mouse.  Even if I have EVERYTHING on Low, no MSAA etc, it only just manages to stay above 30 all of the time.  I've install the latest Geforce Driver (310.70 I think?) and that actually helped quite a bit, but it's still tedious trying to play like this.

Thanks in advance for any help!
 Vespulan

P.S. If there is another relevant thread and I'm just being incompetent, feel free to move this or whatever happens to topics-that-don't-make-the-cut.
