Ahoy thar, I'm building a tower into the air with a wider top than bottom. Attaching an imageshack picture (not necessary if you don't want to look at it)
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/475/tempvo6.jpg several storeys 5 squares wide, then several more storeys 7 squares wide.
While building walls around the upper part, I found that I couldn't build walls in the corners - another illustration: http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/7521/tempsu5.jpg
On storey 7, the corners can't be built because there's no foot access to them. So in the red dot, I built a floor instead of a wall, allowing foot access to that corner. Built the wall in the corner, then UNbuilt the floor on the red dot so that I could replace it with a wall, and fell to the ground, because there was nothing underneath it on storey 6. Much bleeding thereafter.
I tried building stairs all the way up to the red dot from underneath, and tried again, and my dwarf fell AGAIN, this time down 6 flights of stairs. Why didn't the stairs catch him? How can I build walls around all of storey 7 without injuring my dwarves?
