"Twas a few months before Christmas
and all through Holidayville
not a creature was stirring
Except for those who are evil."

It was the shocker of the year. Santa... murdered! Luckily, there were only nine people around when Santa was murdered, so there were only that many suspects. There was much bickering about what to do with those 9. Eventually, it was decided that if someone in the group wanted to be Santa that bad, just let 'em. But that still left a lingering question in the air...

Who killed Santa?

I guess it's up to you guys to figure it out. Begin!

Day 1 ends on Friday, 1:00 AM EST.

Toaster - Fireworks
Pandarsenic -  Secret Satan
Zathras - Inti Raymi
Zrk2 - Jack Frost
Jokerman - Mistletoe
Ottofar - New Year's Eve
Org - Olive, the other reindeer
Lordnincompoop - The Grinch
Inteuniso - Creepy Ornament

Mafia / [In-Signups] Bring Your Own Winter Holiday Mafia
« on: December 10, 2010, 09:23:30 pm »
Now that I've got some more time, here we go!

If you're worried about this long list of rules, don't be. The short version is the BYOR rules and don't post while dead, even to make a "bah" post.

Rules:  (Similar but slightly different from the rules in Toaster's "Mafia Salad")

   1. All votes must be in red. Unvoting before voting again is not required, I can keep track of votes just fine as long as you do them in red. You may vote for No Lynch.
In case of a tie, no one will be lynched.
   2. Days are 72 hours while Nights are 24 hours. Neither time span includes weekends, though I may end weekends on Sunday if all night actions are in.
Unless otherwise stated, days and nights end at 1 AM EST. If that's a problem, I can always end days earlier than that, all you've got to do is ask.
   3. Never edit your posts for any reason, including typos.
   4. Do not PM other players. Players with private chat access will be given a topic on QuickTopic where they may post freely.
   5. Do not quote any PM from me. You may give a general summary (for example, a roleclaim), but do not quote directly.
Paraphrasing or using exact words out of the PM is fine. Copying and pasting even short phrases is not.
   6. Put my name in bold if you would like to get my attention. Please reserve red text only for your votes.
   7. You may ask for an extension or shorten by putting the respective word in bold. Extensions require 33% of players to agree minus any players opposing and are for 24 hours.
Shortens require at least 51% of players to agree, and will end the day as soon as I can process the day end.
   8. Dead players may not post once dead. Other mods allow a "bah" post, but you guys have been abusing the privilege. Dead men tell no tales, so dead men make no posts.
POSTING WHILE DEAD WILL GIVE YOU A RULE INFRACTION, NO MATTER WHAT THE CONTENT OF YOUR POST!!
   9. Please make an effort to post at least once daily. If you do not post for 36 hours, you will be prodded. If I don’t hear from you within 24 more hours, you will be replaced.
If you think someone needs a prod, please bring it to my attention- I can’t guarantee I will notice everyone who is not posting.
I decree that posts must be made in the main thread. Neither posting in any QuickTopic(s) you have access to nor PM'ing me will reset your lurking.
  10. Never underestimate your importance, and always play to win!

 BYOR-Specific Rules:

   1. Upon signing up, you must PM me your choice of role. You're free to change it at any time for any reason before I start the game, but once I start it you're stuck with the last role you chose.
   2. Your role choice has no influence on if you're a power role or what faction you're a part of, so don't assume anything based on your role. I'm fitting the flavor to match your role.
   3. I would appreciate it if you included a Wikipedia link or short description of your role choice if it's not obvious. If you have to ask if I'll know, I won't.
   4. Stick to the theme "Winter Holidays". Christmas in July, fruitcake, and the Heatmeiser are all acceptable. Hitler, cats, and Pluto are all unacceptable.

If anybody isn't going to play but wants to help out with IC'ing (ie. PM'ing me to do my job, help handle prods, and make sure things are balanced), I would appreciate it. I tend to lose interest in things, but just having someone yell when I've gotten lazy will be more than enough to keep the game moving. Additionally, if any players think I've forgotten about this game, feel very free to PM me and say mean things about my mother if I don't hurry up.

 Players:
   Zathras
   Toaster
   Pandarsenic
   Zrk2
   Jokerman-EXE
   Ottofar
   Org
   Lordnincompoop
   Inteuniso

If you're not on this list, you haven't sent in a role yet.

Mafia / Apology for Absence
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:08:41 pm »
Sorry for disappearing, but due to a bunch of hardware failures I don't want to get into, I have to format my hard drive. That entails loads of work, such as pulling off files from the drive before formatting, the actual format, reinstalling Windows, downloading and updating software, downloading drivers, reconnecting to the Internet, resetting up Opera, fiddling with the settings of Windows, and of course, making sure that everything works as it should, so it'll take about a week to set it all up again. I'll basically be unable to post for at least another week. I'm going to need replacements for I/S/E and Paranormal. Also, I'm removing myself from all of the sign-ups I'm in.

Other Games / Slash'EM: It's Nethack, only harder
« on: September 20, 2009, 02:17:15 am »
I've been playing Slash'Em a lot recently and since there wasn't a thread for it already, I decided to make one.

Slash'EM is a mod of Nethack. I could spend ages describing all the cool stuff Slash'EM adds, but lemme start by telling you that Slash'EM stand for "Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack- Extended Magic". Mainly, you're getting 5 new races: doppleganger, drow, hobbit, lycanthrope, and vampires, along with 5 new classes: flame mage, ice mage, undead slayer, necromancer, and yeoman. Many races and all classes have one or more "Techniques", which you can use with #technique. It also adds a dozen new artifacts, including many non-weapon  artifacts. There's pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles, grenades, and grenade launchers. There's lightsabers, toilets, lairs for all the named demons, tons of special levels, more Sokoban levels, and all kinds of other shit. Oh, and it's a lot harder than Nethack, to boot. Just try it out, it's hilarious just to throw grenades at dragons or to kill a plastic golem and have it drop a bunch of credit cards. Oh, and watch out for the Deep Ones.

Anways, you can get it here. If you want to try something easy, play as a doppleganger monk. A few general tips: Don't go to Dlvl 3 until you've hit level 2. Don't go too deep in the mines unless your AC is negative and you have a good weapon (read: not a stack of daggers). Remember #technique! You can hit p while in shops to get some good services, like identifying things, uncursing cursed objects, weaponworks, or armourworks. Most of these are expensive, but uncursing is fairly cheap.

Have fun, kiddies, and remember, #youpoly in the morning, #youpoly in the afternoon, #youpoly all night long!

Since a lot of the current mafia games are winding down, I figured I'd start my own. Usually, lyncher is played with a single lyncher and a single mafioso, with everybody else townies, but I figured I'd spice it up a bit. Still, lynchers and townies and mafiosos are very common.

Rules:
Free PMing is allowed, but I MUST get copies of each PM you send.
Mafia may no-kill or kill mafia members, if they want.
As long as majority of players are voting, the player with the most votes gets lynched. In case of a tie, the player who got the votes earliest gets lynched.
Please put votes in red!
Day start. Days will last ~72 hours. Nights will last until the mafia sends in an action, but always at least 12 hours.
There will be a quicktopic for the mafia. Note that if any Saulus leave the mafia, I will create a new quicktopic for the mafia.
Unlike other mafia games, the mafia team's role PMs will not include each other's roles.
Be aware that each player will get entirly different role PM's, even if you have the same role. Even still, don't quote your role PM. Paraphrasing is fine.
The town loses if the mafia outnumbers the rest of the game. The entire mafia wins at that point. They decide who gets lynched and who gets night-killed, then the game is over.
NEW: There will be no roleflips. You will be told when a lynched person revives, however.
I'd like to start this on Monday. I'd like to have 9 people sign up, but I'll play with as few as 5.

Here's a list of all possible roles:

King of Dragon Pass is a PC game made in 1999 where you're the leader of a tribe of warriors, farmers, crafters, and asshole "advisers". The whole game has a lot of Celtic influence and awesomeness, so I thought you guys might like it. Gameplay is fairly simple, you give general orders for what you want your people to do (explore here, throw a feast, go raiding, stuff like that) and then a situation happens. You get some options, you pick one, and good or bad things happen. Seems simple enough, right? Yeah, but this game is also stupidly hard for no reason at all. The warriors suck, there's never enough food, everyone hates you, and your advisers are all braindead dolts. In other words, it's awesome!

I'll handle most of the stuff we do, but I'll leave you guys in charge of the initial choices, where to put the magic into (you pick every year), choices for all the dilemmas that pop up, and, if you guys want, what to do during the year, such as raiding, exploring, finding new magic, whatever, otherwise I'll just do stuff and tell you guys what I did. For all our decisions, if a bunch of people can all agree or mostly agree, I'll do it, but if there's no majority, then I might ask for everyone to decide between two things. This is only for really debated things though, since I know how important it is to keep the game going.

Additionally, I recommend you guys try this game and tell me what you think. Hopefully, this thread will convince you just how awesome this old game is! Besides, if you just look at the pictures, you miss the looping music, cheesy animations, and terrible artwork that pops up (The backrounds of these pictures are shown in color, then turn brown, for example)

Anyways, here's the title screen in all it's 1999 glory. My screen is about twice as big as this, so there's an insane amount of black space around this thing.

Well, we want to play a game here, so we start a new one.

Yadda yadda, back story, ok. Here's the first set of choices.

All the choices lead to the same next scene, so we would get these in this order anyways.

This might take awhile, so hold on tight!

Don't worry, these don't go on forever.

Good news, bad news. Good news is, no decision for this one. Bad news is, you're not even half-way done.

We can change this one later at any time, so don't sweat it too much.

Lot of choices this time, but it's also probably the most important one.

Another story pic

Alright, now the good stuff.

Before going on, pick that one first. After you've picked it, click the spoiler to see if you called it right (You get the same thing no matter which option you picked)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyways, here's the next one. See the black line? That would say War, Balanced, or Peaceful, depending on what we choose.

Finally! Last one! Well, there is another screen, but we'll get to it later.

I also need a name for the tribe. If this looks like a lot of choices, it is, I just didn't want to post them one at a time. You don't have to answer them all, just answer the one's you care about. I don't mind, really. Some of them are a bit dull, after all.

DF Bug Reports / [39d] Dwarf's thoughts are out of order
« on: July 23, 2008, 09:47:46 pm »
This miner gets in a cave-in accident and suffers a broken arm. He gets to bed and rests (even though he's uncoscious all the time.) I check his thoughts screen, and evidently he somehow rests, recieves food and water, then gets in the cave-in in that order.

DF Bug Reports / [39b-c?] Lungfish beach themselves
« on: July 17, 2008, 03:36:07 pm »
This looks really stupid, the lungfish are jumping out of the water (as vermin) and running out many tiles, then returning. Havn't tried using an animal trap on them yet, however. If you need a picture, I can supply one. Looking in the raws, they have [VERMIN_GROUNDER], which may not be the right tag.

In 39a, I think I got a message along the lines of "The lungfish has drowned" 3 times in one move in Adventure mode, although I may not be remembering correctly.

DF Bug Reports / [39a] No fish on embark screen
« on: July 15, 2008, 02:34:02 am »
As the topic says, I had no fish in my embark screen. There was "carp meat" and such, but that doesn't generate any bones or shell. There was no turtle or cave fish or any of the old staples.

By the way, how do you even get "carp meat"? It seems impossible to kill carps where you can get the corpse. Even then, wouldn't you just prepare the fish?

DF Bug Reports / [38a] Sleeptalking
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:39:00 pm »
In Adventure Mode, sleeping people will talk to you normally, in addition to the other things they do (parry, counterstrike, ect.) It's odd to see sleeping people talk about their families, quests, town, surroundings, capital, and tavern they're in. Then again, I consider it odd people are willing to divulge their entire life story several times over... but I digress.
