DF Suggestions / Generic make clothing job at leather works/clotiher
« on: December 11, 2016, 04:27:10 pm »
I think as well as the various clothing options  to make specific things there should be a Make Clothing" or "Make Wardrobe" option at the leather works and clothier that simply makes each one of each item of clothing thats available for selection one by one all in the same job. This would make keeping good amounts of each category of clothing much easier than having to queue up ten dresses 10 gloves ten pants etc. just sticking the Make Clothing job on R for a few seasons and your clothing issues are solved.

I also think there should be options to automatically dye anything created with whatever dye is available.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Peopele attacking each other
« on: December 22, 2015, 08:43:15 am »
So just now i started a new adventurer as a human. I appeared in a fort and attacked a lasher  breaking  a bone and he fell unconscious. I then  cut his throat and moved on to attack a dorf chemist I cut him twice with my axe and the second hit mangled his stomach and spilled his guts. i decided to leave him like that and walked away and the chemist ignores me and starts punching the unconscious lasher in the head repeatedly even thought he was also hostile to me and i had just cut them both to ribbions. What the?

DF General Discussion / Worst and best tasting booze?
« on: October 25, 2015, 01:51:00 am »
All the new fruit and food in Df has led to some very strange new booze types. What do you think would be the worst and best tasting booze in game?

for me

Best strawberry wine, orange wine. I love strawberry champagne irl so this is an easy choice. Banana beer sounds interesting too.

Worst: Onion wine or radish wine. Imagine a drink that tastes like onions. Ughhhh!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Who lives solely off of fruit now?
« on: October 25, 2015, 01:47:55 am »
So ever since fruit was introduced and multi tile trees I haven't done any farming at all. I just zone three or four max size fruit picking zones assign a handful of herbalists and forget about food and booze. Dwarves bring in more fruit than I can ever use and there enough of a variety that i never  get bad thoughts for the same food over and over. with  a 80 dwarf fortress 4 years in i had 6000 food 3000 booze and had never farmed. Farmers go directly into the military.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarves wont dump clothing
« on: October 02, 2015, 11:03:47 am »
Hey so I have loads of worn clothing laying around where dwarves have discarded it. I have an active garbage dump zone, two in fact one inside out outside I have a dwarf set to nothing but refuse hauling and many other idle dwarves. None of the items are forbidden, they aren't owned and the dump site is accessible Dwarves will still not dump the items after waiting a while. What's going on?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Duplicating raws?
« on: August 22, 2015, 01:19:25 pm »
Hey so i read on the forum a few times about people duplicating raws and it having extremely strange effects i.e. making beaches made of native silver and rock into bat live tissue. this sounds like lots of fun so I was curious how do i actually do this? What raws do i duplicate and where do I put them? Do i generate a new world after the procedure? thanks.

Also feel free to post about odd things you've seen by using this technique It seems interesting.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / quick room assignment in next version?
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:41:01 pm »
I think there should be a option to just auto assign bedrooms. Assigning them manually gets tedious fast.; It would be great to have an option somewhere where you just press a key and dwarves that don't have rooms are auto assigned designated bedrooms. Dwarves that already have rooms are exempt this way you can still put your beloved smith etc in his own awesome room.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Plum pits
« on: April 16, 2015, 04:37:30 am »
My food stockpile is loaded with plum pits and they don't seem to be available for planting since they are trees. Is there a use for plum pits? Why are dwarves saving them?

DF General Discussion / Whats your DF machine specs?
« on: April 01, 2015, 06:01:17 am »
There's still a fair bit of talk about DF not running that well. I'm curious what is everyone's specs? In a 100 fortress i get no noticeable lag i can't get the FPS option to actually display FPS though.

That machine is

Celeron 2.4ghz (or so)
4gb Ripjaws 1600mhz ddr3
GTX 560 Ti

Nothing special at all

My (not even a week old) netbook gets noticeable lag. The game probably runs at about 10FPS if that in a new fort. Mining takes forever. About to work though the Wiki's FPS boosting recommendations.

quad core 1.4ghz Atom
2gb DDR3 ram with apparently the worst timings ever 9-9-9-24 with no bios options to change it
32gb eMMC
Intel HD Graphics no idea what model the driver wont update and speccy tells me nothing.

If even my crappy desktop can run the game at a playable rate how poor are peoples pcs here? What do you have?

DF General Discussion / M.A.D, arena style.
« on: March 22, 2015, 11:41:24 pm »
No one knew why we were fighting. All we knew is that all at once we were alive and filled with Armok's burning fury. There were 30 of us, born of nothing, crammed in a tiny stone room.

I looked around as I hefted my mighty two handed godmetal blade and my azure helmet felt heavy on my crown as the scrape of my bluemetal boots echoed in the small space. Someone screamed an intelligible cry and sliced the dwarf next to him. All at once the room descended into an orgy of violence as blade met flesh and the grey floor quickly began to run with the blood of countless wounds. Bodyparts began to almost rain down as the dwarves savagely hewed away at each other like they were harvesting firewood.

For my part I neatly decapitated one dwarf, his body crashing lifelessly to the ground nearby and inflicted wounds on a few others, knowing nothing but the echoing voice in my head pushing me on and the fear in my opponent’s eyes as their anguished screams bounced off the walls. The clang of weapon on weapon was deafening.

Suddenly a horrible pain assaulted my chest. As if in slow motion I saw a huge blue blade protruding from my chest. As the dwarf who wielded the blade pulled it free along with a torrent of blood and a thin ribbon of, I struggled to breathe, as air whistled nosily into my chest from the gasping gash within it.

Ignoring the feeling I calmly aimed a cut at the neck of my attacker as I felt Armok had taught me to in my time before existence. I watched as his head flew off his now useless shoulders and landed on the wet floor with a dull splat.

Soon after I felt another blinding pain as my right hand was cut off, neatly at the wrist. One moment it was there as it always had been and then it was gone. I half stumbled half staggered away from the battle as the torn stump that had once been my right hand reddened the floor. A few twisted shreds were all that was left.

I stood there behind a wall nor far from the battle, where the din of metal on metal and dying dwarves was just as loud as ever as they slew each other at the behest of their god. In time my arm seemed to bleed its last and the pain that clouded my vision receded somewhat.
Hefting my sword with my one good hand I grimly returned to the fray as Armok screamed in my mind.

After little more melee and killing, a huge blade carved my leg nearly in twain.  As I faltered and slipped to the floor a bloodied mess, the dwarf who did it glowered down at me. I could not stand the blow had left my leg hanging by a thread, so i struck upwards from the floor. I despaired as the dwarf easily blocked the clumsy attack and proceeded to aim a deadly slice right at my chest. The azure blade entered my chest unerringly and found my heart with a loud chopping sound, like someone had just driven a cleaver into a vegetable. My chest became soaked as my life blood began to gush onto the stone floor.

But I was not dead yet. As I ebbed, I struck upward at my merciless foe, trying desperately to cut him down while I still had time. I bought my side upward and bought it down with a sickening crack onto his back. The man froze as if he had ran into an invisible wall and crumpled, unconscious before he even reached the floor.

The room had grown quiet. Even the wheezing of dying dwarves had faded away as only a handful of fighters still lived. Bodies lay strewn around the room, easily visible in the dim light from my position in the floor. My vision was growing dimmer, I had to hurry.

Slowly, agonizingly I crossed the few meters to my killer's unconscious form. It was too easy. I smirked, despite the pain and my own approaching death, as I drew the heavy blade across his neck. A river of crimson issued forth from his neck as the blade bit into him.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I pulled the azure blade free and dragged my way to two other dwarves that were living in the room, unconscious and both with previous injuries. I cut both of their throats as I had with Dwarf 119, my killer and now my victim.

I saw one more dwarf in the distance, looking very pale. I staggered towards him, but suddenly the world lurched and turned a lifeless grey. As I slipped to the floor Armok complements echoing in my herd, somehow I was dimly aware of that dwarf gurgling his last as I prepared to meet my lord.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarves not using well
« on: March 21, 2015, 01:42:52 am »
Hey so i had some dwarves injured in a siege and my surface water is frozen so i made a mad dash to find underground water. I found some in the caverns and constructed a well. The water below it is 7/7 and it says "active" if i q the well so i know its working  but dorfs constantly spam no water source. My paints are about to die why wont my dwarves use the water? They should be able to reach it shouldn't they?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Refuse stockpile on hatch?
« on: March 04, 2015, 12:43:16 am »
Hey so today i finally started messing around with pits and shafts and other such things. I've never really tired building advanced traps and such before mainly since i didn't know of a good way to dug a shaft.

Anyway I want to do the trick of putting a refuse pile in a deep pit and having dwarves throw their garbage in to avoid the need to have it outside. I cant find a way to designate the refuse pile on the hatch itself though. Short of manually dumping every item with zones is there a way I can put a stockpile on the hatch itself?

It also makes a great place to dispose of annoying children via burrows. Theres no better end than being tipped down a reeking, gore covered chute full of rotten emu brains, random body parts and dead dwarves as well as child skeletons and blood spatters to drown in filthy, offal filled water that's been stagnant for years.

Also is there a batter way to dig really long shafts? I just try to designate channeling on every z level but after a few the dwarf stops due to dangerous terrain. How can i just dig straight down?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What's some of your favourite conversations you've seen? I always enjoy to when i say hello to someone then they shoot/hit me and then tell me their name.

Also when i slice someone a few times then brag to them about just attacking them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Squemish Doctors
« on: July 26, 2014, 08:44:41 pm »
So i just had a werebeast then a siege then a werebeast in my fort during the siege. more than half the fort is dead there were about ten corpse sin the fort spewing miasma and there two guys in  bed that look like raw hamburger including a girl with two broken shoulders and this guy who lost his wife in the attatck doesn't care about anything anymore and has his son never leaving his tile. How he survived long enough to even get into the hospital is anyone's guess and he hasn't been treated for months.

http://s9.postimg.org/wsfg4mdxr/content.png

Anyone I set as a doctor keeps running away horrified when they attempt to diagnose or clean patients, likely because a corpse in the next bed over keeps generating miasma but maybe its because of the grievous injuries. There is absolutely no way to stop this and this behavior needs to be removed at least for the CMD. how is he supposed to save anyone if he runs away horrified from miasma and the like? doctors re going to see the worst of a fort with hacked up corpses and barley alive mangled survivors. they shouldn't be running away while their patient bleeds out or whatever.
