DF Modding / Solving a Menu Problem

Hi all. My old computer, which gave out a couple years ago, was able to display the contrast on menus so I could see the white highlight for whatever I was choosing, but my current computer's graphics card barely shows any difference. I'm tired of having to count and say out loud each choice, and was wondering if anyone could remind me which mod puts a blue bar highlighter in the menus. I know I've seen them before. Probably in Masterwork, but I don't want that big of an overhaul for just playing the base game.

DF Modding / Possible Pathfinding Problem

So I've built a race/civ for the game, and it almost works right. There's just one small problem: there's a constant stream of idlers who won't eat when they're hungry, and won't work even when there's jobs to do. They're not on break, they show up in the units screen as No Job. There's usually at least one. Sometimes it goes up to six or seven, and slows the fort's work down. I've never had any of them die from this, each individual seems to snap out of it before starvation kills them. It just gets annoying to have so many people claim there's no work and walk around with clear paths to everything. I've got the mod info right here if anyone wants to take a look:

DF Modding / Testing Arena and modded creature names

I always have a problem getting my creatures' names to show up right in the testing arena list. I don't have too many problems getting their names to show up inside the arena, but when looking through the list to find them, it seems to come out wrong. Current case in point:

DF Suggestions / The Player As a God

The short version: Create a set of personality traits that make certain dwarves prone to believing in an unseen God that controls only their Fortress.

Basically, the dwarves would see the player's hand in things, and start wondering if s/he exists. When one of your dwarves begins thinking this way, you get a pausing announcement that tells you about it. You can then decide to either treat that dwarf the same way you always have, in which case nothing comes of it, or you can start interacting with that dwarf personally, in increasingly direct ways. Once you get a dwarf truly believing in you, they'll start talking to you directly, sending you prayers. Maybe there would be a secondary Nobles screen showing you your followers and their Prayers, which could function like the Mandates from Nobles. Only with different effects for fulfilling or rejecting them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Playing as surface races

For a while now I've been working on surface forts as humans. I give them Site specific nobles so they're decently playable, and I've recently taken to doing 10,000 point Embark budgets. When Toady did his rock nerfs he forgot to fix the embark screen, so a Sandstone boulder costs the same as an oak log, and gives four times the building material, which means you can buy 2,500 of the things, get 10,000 materials from them, and still have almost twice as many embark points left as you would have had at all with the default set up.

I've been trying to fine tune my methods to maximize trade success and get into the game faster, but my natural caution keeps getting in the way. I haven't done very much with the military, and it still takes me a full year to get into the swing of things production-wise.

Anyone else do much with surface forts, and maybe playing as humans or even Elves?
