DF Gameplay Questions / Siege?
« on: June 10, 2017, 06:18:02 am »
Since those 4X.XX versions I have an issue I cannot solve. I never get any siege. Like Ever.

I have checked than my last fortress is very near a Goblin Civ: I am like at 2 squares of one of their biggest lair, on a plain. I have also checked than Goblins had the manpower to do it. I have 95 Dwarfs, way above the limit I found in the raws for my worldgen.
I have exported stone crafts like if there was no tomorrow, I have imported tons of metal items (my fortress has only access to tetrahedrite and gold) which are, after smelting, my only source of weapon/armor metal.
I am not isolated from anything, I have been plagued by Were and as mentioned I am visited by caravans (Humans and Dwarfs)

I understand than armies have to really walk the distance. But this is not my first fortress to lack of any siege.. My lonely squad is petitioning to attack the human caravan.
Are the sieges now such a rarity?

DF Gameplay Questions / Drawbridge
« on: July 27, 2013, 05:58:47 am »
I am very new to this (awesome) game,  only a few weeks, so my apoligizes if I missed something obvious.

On the third siege of my fortress I started to buid Fortifications and I made two drawbridges, one for my main tunnel entry, the other one on the fortification wall. Lever and mechanisms were fitted and installed in the main Hall.

Another assault comes just after the completion of my work, alarms ring, burrow is filled, Militia is scattered all over the place: Good, everything works as usual. I raise the bridges but the goblins pass them as if I had just built a nice Jet paved road. My main Hall is soon a bloody mess.

One third of my population later, the siege is Kicked away. Ah, maybe moats were the problem or diagonals? My fortress must menace with Moats! I crash the bridges and build them larger. I channel moats, remove the ramps, recover my miners, redo the removing of the ramps and I wait..

New Siege, and again... They walk over the bridges when those should be standing. And it looks like they are if i check the lever and the graphics (when they are standing bridges look like a wall between two pilars and they are just one tile wide )..

I consulted the wiki, some posts, the book and the tutorials but I cannot see what I did wrong... Bridges are 3 * 5 and 5 * 5  and x for the raising direction..
