Play With Your Buddies / Let's play JParanoia
« on: September 02, 2017, 12:11:44 pm »
Paranoia is a tabletop game where you are a Troubleshooter in the future. With the help of glorious Friend Computer, you shoot trouble.
Types of trouble to shoot include:
  • Those dirty commies.
  • Mutants!
  • Secret Societies, including the dirty commies and mutants.
  • "Innocent" bystanders.
  • The poor.
  • Your own teammates who have turned against Friend Computer!
There tends to be a lot of both humor and friendly fire, as well as humorous friendly fire and friendly fire resulting from a poor sense of humor. Unfortunately, I have no friends in real life! But, thanks to the glory of the internet, it is possible to play JParanoia, which is Paranoia, with a J! The J stands for internet, so you can play it online. If you click on this link right over here it'll take you to a dropbox where you can download a funky fresh folder with Jparanoia on it. Then you can follow these instructions to make your own character, or follow the directions in the readme provided to abandon me and host your own game.

To make a character:
1. Open the Fresh Paranoia Folder
2. Open the JPChargen folder
3. Run JPChargen.jar
4. set a name for yourself, of the format "something-R-SOMETHINGINALLCAPS", like Cit-R-ZEN, or Com-R-DOM.
5. Hit roll all, and don't change any of the stats, societies or mutant powers(I'm trusting ya'll to be good about sticking to what the RNG gives you)
6. Hit "Adjust Skills" and adjust your skills to your liking. EDIT: Because I'm mean, no skills over 6.
7. Hit save and exit, then look in playerdata for your character. It will be "Yourname.txt"
8. Upload that wherever I can download it easily for GM purposes, and PM me the link.

Post in this thread to tell me if you wanna play some time, and we can discuss what times/dates would work best for everybody. There's no limit on players because Chaos is Fun!, but I'd like at least 3.

Curses / Overflow Error, whoops.
« on: July 30, 2017, 02:30:24 pm »
Well, I imagine the guys who run/ran LCS development didn't think to account for me waiting like 10 or 15 years while I had 100 sleeper CEOs embezzling, but at about 2.14 billion dollars, my money overflowed and went negative.
A fix would be appreciated. I want more money.
EDIT: Here's the save 1 day prior. https://www.dropbox.com/s/k48jksg1ze2iyly/Money.dat?dl=0
There are a few other anomalies with the save too, such as if you disband, the public mood slingshots back to moderate from C+ within 15 years, and also gun control being permanently L+ in the public's mind because of constant CCS attacks(I have a sleeper officer but decided to never destroy the CCS) and the 2000+ LCS murders. But that part is probably working as intended.
EDIT 2: It's version 4.10 from git with Crypto Conservative soul art file.

Guests that breathe/are fire.

This will only end badly !!FUN!!, I feel.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Fish airdrowning in brooks
« on: August 14, 2014, 05:32:05 pm »
It appears that the game thinks this brook is a river, so fish are airdrowning on top.

It's a musselcre.[badumtsh]
Anyone else having this problem with brook embarks?

5
It appears that in every fortress I start, my cats start out as legendary climbers. Does anyone else have this experience?

6
I've had a bunch of lousy embarks lately that have been metamorphic layers all the way down, so is there a way to get a good sense of what stone layers I will get before I embark?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Does anyone else have this problem?
« on: August 11, 2014, 09:39:39 pm »
All the fortresses I make tend to end up having either piles and piles of iron with no flux stone, or piles and piles of flux stone with no iron. The second leads to plenty of FUN when goblins/kobolds/elves arrive.
Does this happen to other people, or am I just terrible at choosing embark locations?

DF Suggestions / Making a fortress with no dwarves alive
« on: August 08, 2014, 12:42:15 am »
I'm sad that this isn't a thing you can do. If all dwarves die in worldgen, no forts for you. Why didn't armok send down 7 dwarves to create a mountainhome here or why didn't dwarven space shuttles launch across the galaxy to colonize new planets? When someone wants to be an adventurer in a world with no living humans, elves, or dwarves, it's fine, just throw down a dude from space! But when I want to send down a squad of armok's chosen dwarves to conquer a planet, that's a big no-no.
I think it's racism.
Dwarf-hating scoundrel. (it's okay toady i still love you.)

DF General Discussion / I did a 10 thousand year world gen
« on: August 06, 2014, 02:34:28 pm »
Unsurprisingly, Elven hippies didn't last very long. Their wooden weapons were useless against the goblin onslaught. The last Elf citizen was hunted down and impaled on a pike in...
58?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
But, that's not very far? I've had plenty of 100 or so year worldgens and nobody died. Maybe it's just the tree-hugging hippies getting what they deserve...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What? How did the goblins beat dwarven steel, only in year 68!
They're on a rampage!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And the kobolds died out too, from one roc attack!
Hm. It seems like the humans and goblins however did survive all through worldgen. Let me just check the map...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Dear armok. They're barely hanging on. They only have a few territories. How are they still alive? Looks like the goblins won this one.
Actually a human survival was pretty surprising, I must say, considering they don't live forever and they usually don't have steel
EDIT: since i could succesfully make a 10k year pocket world, now trying with large world.

DF Modding / How would I go about making engravings not look TERRIBLE.
« on: August 04, 2014, 07:44:41 pm »
I just engraved  a large portion of my fortress and it now looks like absolute ass, pardon my French.
Is there a mod I could get that would fix this?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How is a kill deemed "Notable?"
« on: August 04, 2014, 04:33:56 pm »
There was a goblin siege on my fortress earlier, and my militia commander killed 4 goblins, but one was "notable."
How is this decided?

13
I mean, aside from a bit of IMMERSHUN. Like will a dorf who "Sees engaging in commerce as a high ideal in life" make a better broker, or will a dorf who "finds something humorous in everything, no matter how serious or inappropriate" level up comedian skill quickly?

Curses / So I was looking through the source code for 4.07.0...
« on: April 27, 2014, 11:35:09 am »
And I think that somehow a very incomplete version of the Stalinist Comrade Squad mod got in there.
In liberalagenda.cpp for example, there are kinda funny stalinist ending laws.
Code: [Select]
if(won==-2)addstr("The former nation of Canada has been annexed and filled with Stalinist gulags.");
if(won==-2)addstr("The Cheka constantly invents new methods of torture.");
if(won==-2)addstr("The military promotes Stalinism throughout the world by using force.");
And it also briefly mentions stalinism in politics.cpp
Code: [Select]
                        2) Liberal, Conservative, and Stalinist percentage of
the country, i.e. how much support each party
                                has.
