DF Adventure Mode Discussion / superhuman <attribute> maximum?

hey guys,

when i train a lot i get "superhuman strength" when i press z - s
now does  this mean i have reached my maximum str?
is superhuman strength always the same amount or is there some kind of number (1100/2200 for example) like in fortress mode? if yes how can i view that? and when i reached my "humany possible" maximum, and then become vampire, will my strength still double or stay max?

and can i become necromancer and AFTER that werwolf?
and can i become werwolf and AFTER that necromancer?

when i am werwolf can i just walk into necro towers?
is there  any difference between legendary fighter 20 / 50 / 75 and 99 ?

swords are good alround wepons, spears are good for big enemies with organs, what is good against bronze colossus?
why do some people carry more than one shield?
i removed dagger from my inventory while i had mace equipted. now when i fight i can choose between mace and dagger. does this make my attacks weaker similar to one-handing 2h-weapons?

hey guys

im totally lost i cant find the dfhack itemtags ANYWHERE... are you guys hiding them or what :-/

i just want to make my quern mill rock nuts and no other seeds.
and i know i use job-material <XXXXX>
but sadly noone seems to know (not even the internet) where i can find an actual list of what item has which tag ...

does someone know ? :-O

hey guys


when i was using dfhack's "job item-material" command, and i was wondering where do i find a list which plant/stone etc. has which name in the console?

i select the quern where mill plants is highlighted in blue and then type

job-material <rock_nuts>

in the console right?
only that i dont know what i should write instead of rock nuts because i dont find any kind of list anywhere -.-

DF Gameplay Questions / checking if embark has flux AFTER embarking

hey guys

i embarked near a volcano and i could swear i embarked so the lower 3 tiles were from a flux-biom. now i have nearly mined out 10 complete layers and didnt find a single flux stone (marble,chalk etc.).

is there a way to check if my embark side realy has flux (just if it has , not where) like when embarking new? another way than backup-savegame, give up , reembark and check abondoned map ...

DF Gameplay Questions / skilled champion or "noob" champion

hey guys

i just got a baron and can make someone champion.

the wiki says champions teach my lilitia occationally by demonstrations

so i got a few questions:

1. does my champion automatically wander from one barracks to the next and instructs all my militia from time to time? or do i need to asign him tasks to instruct?
2. he needs high teacher skill, but does he also need skill in anything to be effective? like can he be level 0 in every fighter-skill and still "instruct" my militia? or does he need a high skill and only teaches this particular high skill (i think dodging/armor would be  good choises? )?
so would it be wise to chose one of my best warriors/archers or some  random peasant ^^
3. this concerns the sheriff. should i have a strong or weak sheriff? should i asign him troops? should he patrol or be "afk"?

DF Gameplay Questions / blood barrels , which stockpile?

hey guys

i bought blood barrels from a merchant, now noone takes them to my stocks. at further looking in stockpile settings, i dont find blood anywhere. so how or where do i store it? and what can i do with barrels of blood? ^^

DF Gameplay Questions / archers go melee

hey guys :-D

my crossbowman should attack an invading minotaurus. but they went in and attacked in melee!

now checking their items they all have chrossbow and quiver ... :-/
do i need to set my archer squad to archery somewhere?
or do i select "carry ammunition" somewhere? i have 10000xx bolts in their archery training barrack and sometimes they shoot at my archery target so they could if they want to ... :-(

how do i see what equipment one of my dwarfs has ?
atm my only way to check is by ordering his exact equipment via the military window. but there got to be another way to look at a dwarfs equipment :-/ ?

DF Gameplay Questions / bought caged tiger, wont come out

hey guys

the elves werte just here. initially i just wanted to send them away but then i found a tamed female caged tiger and bought it.

now i secluded area, asigned to animal training, asigned the tiger a trainer, set him to available, even moved the cage into the training zone, i also have meat, asigned tiger to war training.

nothing happens. the tiger chills in the cage and my trainer is afk in the meeting hall ...

did i miss something?
do i need to release hi9m manually?
how do i do that? wiki only describes freeing (built) cages not the trap-cages ...

DF Gameplay Questions / can drarfs shoot downhills from towers?

omygod i am so mad at my dwarfs right now... i embarked near volcano on a mountain, now i want to build a real castle with walls and towers etc. but every edge or every tree is a drama, dwarfs seem to walk where they want to build a wall THEMSELVES and then tell me : creature occupying building space.
dear lord if i had more spare dwarfs i would burn every single one saying that in magma but not before i locked him in a room full of miasma before he nearly dehydrates.... i am so mad... i build floors for them to better reach locations, i remove side walls so they can stand there there are 2 spots i literally c annot make my dwarfs build a single piece of wall... but that fucks up my whole idea of a castle if dwarfs cant manage a SINGLE wall what horrors await me if i build double walls and towers :-O

that realy demotivates my idea right now :-/ worked half an hour ONLY ON ONE SPOT and couldnt manage them stupid dwarfs to not block the spots themselves -.-


well that was to blow some steam off.
my question: when i build a tower, lets say 1-2 z-levels higher than the plane ground around it, can archers on top of it shoot down throu fortificications? is their range higher? lower?

hey guys,

if i have build a bridge with mechanisms to raise it and a pit so noone can cross it raised, can goblins still cross it?

every youtube video i see has bridges AND lots of traps. why? cant i just raise the bridge and they cant come in? goblins also cant destroy walls can they?

DF Gameplay Questions / miasma in dining room

hey guys

i somehow killed a thief in my dining room and forgot to remove the  corpse (and my dwarfs forgot too :-/).

now it spreads miasma every few seconds right in the middle of my giand dining room (yay).

my question is, how do i  get rid of it? i selected it and orderd (D)ump. but noone ever graps it and removes it. could it be one of my own dwarfs corpse and how do i remove that?

hello

i just now got my first nobles (mayor, sheriff) and they want quaders,offices and dining rooms.

ok i get the office and iu get the quader, but does EVERY noble realy need his OWN dining room? wtf

and another question: where do i see what quality a room has? up to now i just guessed and put stuff in a room untill he becomes "better" but are there lists somewhere or examples of the different room qualities?

NO there arent any in the wiki. it only says what each noble needs but nothing about rooms and their quality exactly. well it telly me to put a leaver in a room and connect hundrets of engraved mechanisms, but i want to build more "normal" rooms :-/


another small question: do my own dwarfs trigger my own traps? or could i place them everywhere and noone would get harmed (except fainting ones) ?

DF Gameplay Questions / anvil missing / trading it?

hey guys,

when i embarked i am 100% sure i got an anvil with me. i also saw the anvil in my stockpiles all the time.
then the time came when i wanted to build an metalsmiths forge. and the anvil was gone. just gone.

could it be a goblin thief stole it ??

before i build the metalsmith, i built a smelter. could the smelter have used the anvil in the building process?

now i realy like my fortress and dont want to start a new one just yet (i want to be defeated by undead or dragons or civil wars, not by forgetting an anvil x->). what are the possible ways to get an anvil now?

i would guess by trading, are there any other ways?

how do i trade an anvil, do i need to set priority of anvils higher somewhere so merchants actually carry anvils?

im totally new to trading i have never traded before. i managed to set up a trade post and carry a few stuff to the post but in the trading menu i was utterly lost. anyone knows a in-detail tutorial of how that trading screen works? i didnt even manage to sell some prepared food for some money -.-

Hey guys,

i started yesterday and as you can imagine, some questions have accumulated over time.

1. which animals graze and which do not?

so far i know pig, fowl, bear, cat, dog dont graze. anyone knows a complete list? because my goal would be a 100% underground fortress

2. when i just started and after some time a snake / any wild animal appears and wanders towards my dwarfs, what should i do? wait for the dogs tzo fight her? hope my dwarvens are stronger? i red so much farming and stockpile tutorials that i forgot there are enemies in this game ^^

3. is the only plant that produces FOOD (not alcohol) underground plump helmets? so 100% underground means i should rather gather milk / cheese and eggs?

4. when i destroyed a natural wall by mining. can i recover the natural wall again? or can i only build "manmade" walls there to close gaps? is there a difference? can enemies smash dwarfen-made walls but never touch natural walls?
4.1 so when my entire fortress is only one single natural wall away from the outside, is there any enemy that also knows how to use a pickaxe? or is natural wall 100% save (when it has no openings)?

5. how do i deal with aquifer? i know best is to avoid it but i dont want to play in pussyworlds where i  turn any danger off. how does aquifer work? i saw a video of someone creating a world in a 100% aquifer-land and he did just dig his tunnels without a care in the world ...?

6. does cave moss naturally grow on unused underground soil? or do i have to do anything to get it?

7.is there a way to automatically bewater underground stones when i have a river nearby, because i love automizations. (my first goal would be to be able to watch my fortress for 20 minutes without having to interfere once).

8.do animals need any kind of water? or can i chain my dogs into my stone-entrance without them dying of hunger/thirst. ever. ?

9.when should i start building defenses/military ?

10. is there a way to build a "tree farm" ?
