DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Justice hotkeys?

Hello. I am seeing "?" for interrogate and counterintelligence options under justice. Where does one go to set these hotkeys or otherwise access these options? Someone stole my artifact and I want to interrogate the witnesses

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / hotkey for holdings "?"

I'm trying to activate the holdings option under the civilizations screen when focused on my fort. The option has a "?" next to it as a hotkey but hitting that doesnt do anything. I cant find the holdings option under hotkeys. Is there a way to change this setting or activate the menu is some other way?

I havnt seeing any flying invaders in quite some time. I had understood the issues with lack of bats were a worldgen population and army movement problem. I wonder what would the best method of getting this issue addressed is since its been outstanding for several versions of DF now.

I'm looking at v40 and all I see is broken systems. broken invasion armies. various combat to hit bugs. food supply trivialization.  over detailed lag causing tree limbs. And all of this for slightly more detailed emotional system. I am I wrong to say 40 was a development stage best forgotten?

Could some effort be taken towards reducing the gamebreaking amounts of food that come from trees and bushes. 1-2 trees in my compound will provide food and fruit booze for 150 dwarfs. How do we want this addressed ?

Any chance we as a community can come together and request a simplification of the trees? I havnt been able to finish a game for a while now and I'm told all the FPS issues I'm running into are about trees, all their little parts, and pathing. I certianly like the upgrade from the old single body trees but can we find a middle ground that doesnt cause so many problems?

Any chance we can get a fixing sweep on combat bugs that isnt attached to all the barding and tavern stuff? I'm looking forward to the new stuff and I'd be happy to test it but it would be best if we can have a separate solid version of the game as well. Thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Spider webs on the surface

Hello. I'm trying to figure out what sort of embark location one needs to have spider webs on the surface. The wiki seems to suggest you need a Broadleaf forest. Its not clear whether its a moist broadleaf or dry and that doesnt always seen to produce webs. Any tips?

I am getting super frustrated. Ever since the priorities system was added my dwarves just wont haul anything. 4 straight seasons worth of above and below plants withered on the vine. The barrels from my original embark have not and will not be been moved. An artifact which I gave its own indoor stockpile to got stolen by a kea. All sorts of things never leave the workshop they were crafted at. I have played around with stockpiles. I have turned all the dwarves over to hauling only. But if the game wants to be blind to certain items they dont get moved. Please take a look at the hauling code and see if there isnt something you can do before working on new content. Thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarves not hauling from starting wagon

Can anyone help me get my dwarves to haul the barrels and whatnot from the starting wagon to my first and only stockpile. I'm trying to make cheese from milk I embarked with by the barrel hasnt been hauled and the farmers workshop doesnt "see" the milks. I've got dwarves set to only haul things but they arnt getting it done. What am I doing wrong?

A grasshopper man was killed in the early days of my fortress and my dwarves have been horrified and vomiting about it for 3 straight seasons. I guess thats fine if a sensitive dwarf with an affinity for grasshoppermen was doing this but its every dwarf that witnessed death..which is most of them. They are laying the entire fortress in vomit to the point where I need to use DFhack to clean up the absurd amounts. Is this some sort of bug because its immersion ruining to have to hack it as the dwarves would get over it or die from fluid loss 10 months into this event.

I'm not sure if this should be in here or some other forum but I've just downloaded the 40.16 game and I've noticed a significant slow down from version 34. The pace of the game seems much slower and the game hangs (mouse cursor whirls and the tab says Dwarf fortress unresponsive) almost every other command I make. I've seen a bunch of conflicting posts about the condition of the game since 40 released and I was wondering if these pauses and slowdowns are being experienced by everyone and just part of the development or if they are unique to me and I should try to reinstall.

We, the architects of the Northford Hillshire, protest the inclusion of UP/Down staircases in Dwarf Fortress. By reducing amount of stairways built you are significantly reducing design work, which steals food from the dinner table and right out of the mouths of the children of architects.

For Shame!. Remove Up/down Stairs! For better Forts! For the Children!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Is one square enough biome ?

If I have just one square of a certain biome in my embark is that enough to spawn the animals from the biome and will they cross the map or just spawn and stay to the one area that represents that biome?

Are Temperate broad leaf forest the only non-evil biomes where you can gather above ground webs? I had brown recluse webs spawn in my forest and I've never seen that before.
