DF General Discussion / Re: What turns you off about DF?
« on: November 07, 2011, 03:44:43 pm »
Bugs. That was what turned me off personally, anyway. I don't mind the graphics at all, I actually think it gives the game a really nice style.

Really the only thing that has ever made me stop playing is bugs: when my hospitals don't work and all my dwarves are stuck in bed, my military dwarves refuse to use bolts or adhere to their training/patrolling schedules, etc. Also nobles: I fucking hate dealing with their bullshit, and I really like having big forts so I have to deal with a lot of them.

I was having a bunch of fun duel wielding short swords, but then I forgot to bring a shield with me when I fought a dragon and I melted.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: a dwarf in a cage, and no one to free him

Yeah, some weirdo elves brought some sentient beings in cages and one of them starved to death in my fort, while in a cage.

A stockpile can only have one other stockpile take from it, one way to circumvent this is to have future stockpiles take from the stockpile made before it, so it just cascades to the last one stockpile.
Ugh, I really don't want to do that though. Are there plans to fix/change this?

DF Gameplay Questions / Secondary-stockpiles taking from primary-stockpile
« on: November 21, 2010, 02:22:20 pm »
In all of my fortresses, I like to make one "mega" stockpile for every resource, and then have little stockpiles around the base, where that resource is necessary. For example, I'll have a big stone depot somewhere, and then I'll have smaller stone stocks nearby my masons workshops.
Whenever I try to tell multiple stockpiles to take from the same primary-stock, the newest assigned taker erases the old stockpiles "take-from" orders.

Is there any way around this? I would rather not make a chain of piles, each taking from the one before it, because that's inefficient as fuck (and just a pain in the ass).

DF General Discussion / Re: Team DwarfFortress 2

Attack/defend would be best. Classic goblin siege.

Also, you could totally do cage/weapon traps and stone traps and bridges and all sorts of awesome stuff. Depending on how silly you wanted it to be you could either add aesthetic looking traps or working traps with defending-team-side lever controls.

Also I would vote for a carp infested river.

DF General Discussion / Re: OCD is ruining my farms!!! &^S
« on: June 06, 2010, 06:04:30 pm »
Personally what I really can't wait for is the ability to make stock-build-orders for certain burrows.

Example: have a farm with a nearby carpenter shop that is set to fill a stockpile with up to 20 barrels. This way, the farm will always have barrels for storage.

It will make lots of mini-industries so much easier to organize, and so random, far off shops don't respond to management work orders.

DF General Discussion / Re: What do you want to see expanded?
« on: April 18, 2010, 12:51:23 pm »
The interface. Seriously, it blows. I know the elitists here love it for some reason, but that's only because it grew on them like a fungus. When 3rd party programs are necessary to play the game (Dwarf Therapist), something is definitely wrong.

I'd semi agree with you. I'm happy with the layout of the interface, and I'm used to it, but I think you are right in that it would be very cool if those 3rd party applications were incorporated as well.

The goblins arrive
The dwarves are not worried, though
They have BRIDGES LOL

12
They just don't have anything to do at that moment in time. It's not really a problem, your fortress can get along fine even if only 12 dwarves are doing any real work.

WRONG.

At least 95% must be working at all times, the other ten dwarves can be sleeping, eating, drinking, or dead.

NO!

Kill them and steal their stuff, everybody is happy or dead.

DF Modding / Mandate and noble haters: read
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:20:30 pm »
Just so those of you who really hate mandates know, I believe the new raws let you modify how many mandates or demands a noble can make.

In entity_default, under most [POSITION:XXXX] titles, there will be a [DEMAND_MAX:#] and/or a [MANDATE_MAX:#]. I believe these to be a yearly limit for mandates and demands.

I have currently set mine all to 0, just because I hate mandates so damn much, as funny as it is so have half my fort in jail.

Also, there are a few interesting tags, such as [MENIAL_WORK_EXEMPTION], [MENIAL_WORK_EXEMPTION_SPOUSE], and [PUNISHMENT_EXEMPTION]. I think it's very obvious what these do, but I just wanted to share some of my findings with everyone.

I'm really sorry if these had already been posted.

First thing i did was change it back to space, and change cursor up/down to / and *
I feel so dumb for not doing this.
I even changed the up/down to , and . just so I didn't need shift, but why haven't I thought of this!? Blargh!
Thank you, sir. I'm off to do that at this very moment.

OP reply: No, I don't like it much, but considering DF has customizable controls I couldn't care less!
