DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress
« on: November 03, 2017, 04:47:29 pm »
Can we expect to see underwater sites similar to those of dwarves, goblins etc.? I'm thinking something like coral castles of mermaids.

I remember reading somewhere (in one of the Threetoe stories?) about goblins serving demons in the Circus. Will there one day be demon sites in Hell, along with goblin populations and hell beasts? Perhaps even armed and armored demon leaders?

Speaking of demons, will demons be able to use magic related to their spheres? I find it odd how demons can grant necromancy slabs but cannot use the magic themselves.

Thanks!

Necromancers, for one.  There is no way that glancing at a book for one instant grants you ultimate mastery over the dead.

Don't forget that you can read a book in an instant even with the barest minimum point in literacy.  That's at a point where you're apparently having trouble with words as long as "mastery" much less "necromancy", and yet you gain instant mastery over necromancy upon seeing the book, like the words literally jump off the page and burrow through into your brain and give you the skill...

... Although that sort of mechanic explains why books are single-use in RPGs...

This is how I imagine necromancy bookx work! :D

Are there any werebeasts nearby, so that Cog could have a hope to see once again?

DF Suggestions / Re: Dragons ought to start world gen fully grown
« on: February 02, 2015, 12:59:58 pm »
I know, I was talking about the Elves, Their Tree Forts could never survive fully grown Dragons at Worldgen, And if the Elves die what's the point in Magma Contraptions?

Elves can survive all other megabeasts, I wouldn't be so afraid of dragon raids. Elves don't seem so, but they can be quite tough to exterminate. :D

I must agree. Having everyone BUT dragons be created as fully grown adults seems strange.

DF Suggestions / Re: More Lifelong Dreams

"Secretly dreams of vandalizing or witnessing/committing violent crime"

Yes, please!

Maybe even let some dwarves become "obsessed with his/her own mortality" while in your fortress and get "secretly dreams of becoming immortal/learning the secrets of life and death". We will have temples in the next release, or they could wander off you map (and the dwarves dreaming of adventuring too), and either return some time later, with strange new look in their eyes, or return as well, but with an undead suite.

DF Suggestions / Re: Natural talent
« on: January 27, 2015, 02:55:45 am »
Maybe the talents (and weaknesses) could be related to how fast a dwarf can learn the given skill?

For example, a dwarf can have high Creativity, but he has more of a talent for drawing than crafting and he is horrible when let into the kitchen. Thus, he would gain Engraver skill faster than any craft skills, even though both would use his high Creativity, and Cooking would be very hard for him to train up.

I think semi-megabeasts should create and use weapons, armor and maybe even other items (furniture in their lairs?). While megabests are really just bests (or huge bronze golems), all semi guys are humanoid and thus quite likely to be at least slightly intelligent, plus it would boost poor battle performance of some of them. :)

Depending on what mythology we take from, giants may be either intelligent warrior race (and then they should be more or less fully armor clad and armed), or simple man-eating brutes, but still capable of at least creating basic clubs and mauls, and using any weapon they happen to find.

Cyclopi from Greek mythology were actually craftsman, they forged many legendary items, including Zeus' Lightning which he used in war against his father. I would really appreciate to see this part of their mythos kept, maybe even having some forges in their lairs and at least iron equipment for most of cyclopi.

While minotaurs are not necessarily all that bright, they are the keepers of the labyrinths and I would find it quite nice if they were actually prepared to guard their labyrinth.

So, please let semi-megabests have arms and armor!

You can only skin an animal once.

If ever something like the [REGENERATES] tag gets added, I can imagine skinning werebeasts or hydrae alive and letting them regrow their skin for profitable leather industry.

Maybe bottomless glowing pits in Circus? Dwarves should simply disappear if thrown into one.

Once she's done asking about elves, Misty should ask Kulet if Dwarf Fortress players have souls, at which point Kulet should almost laugh herself to death.
