DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

The humans brought me a barrel of gremlin sweat.

Then they brought me a barrel of gremlin tears.

I'm hoping for the gremlin blood soon.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Animals grazing at the speed of light?

Zero modding, as I said. Haven't touched ANY of the raws in any way. This was happening when GRAZE_COEFFICIENT in d_init was at its default value of 100. Happened at 2000, which d_init says should mean they're grazing slower (GRAZE_COEFFICIENT affects the amount of hunger a single unit of grass eliminates, so 2000 should mean they're eating slower—GRAZER in the raws also works this way, where small animals that don't need a lot of food get a large GRAZER number). Just to test it, I set GRAZE_COEFFICIENT to 20 - same thing. This is unmodded vanilla DF. Also, note that this is GRAZE_COEFFICIENT in d_init, which is not the GRAZER value in the raws - I have not set or changed any GRAZER values (or anything in the raws, again).

DF Gameplay Questions / Animals grazing at the speed of light?
« on: June 26, 2016, 08:01:46 pm »
Hey guys, I have sheep and yaks in my fortress (unmodded DF 0.43.04) that are grazing so fast that when they get dragged to a new pasture, they drag a line of raw dirt behind them. They are constantly starving. This seems to happen no matter what I have the graze coefficient set to (currently 2000). Any clues?

DF Suggestions / Re: Education

I support a nursery for babies (lady, WHY are you bringing that baby into the exploratory mines?) and I support apprenticeship and playing with toys for children.  I'm not sure I think designating a university in a fortress feels quite right...relatively tiny outposts of 200-300 aren't normally bastions of higher learning.  I also don't find it necessary for any dwarf in my fortress to learn a wide range of skills...actually, I kind of detest it when they know a bunch of random things.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: No iron. Like...anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Multiple shallow metals was what I was doing, though, and I was getting "WE HAVE TIN AND GOLD!" over and over.

Note that this is NOT a newbie mistake - I've been playing Dwarf Fortress since before there were Z-levels.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / No iron. Like...anywhere.
« on: October 18, 2011, 09:16:21 pm »
With the new embark screen that lists only "shallow metals" and "deep metals" rather than the actual layers, I've become...completely unable to find a map that has iron on it, even if I set mineral occurrence to 100.  Any tips or workarounds?

So how do I know when it's my turn?  Or are we doing simultaneous turns with end-of-turn processing?

Hey, sorry, like I told Captain Mayday, I thought I had PMs from this forum forwarded to my email but it turns out I didn't.

How do I know when it's my turn?  What files do I need to move where to do what?  I've never used Dropbox before.

Wait, you're doing manual save moving and not PBW?  http://pbw.spaceempires.net/  I don't have hotmail and I don't use MSN messenger.  PBW works much, much better.

Not that hard, just download the archive here: http://www.captainkwok.net/files/BalanceModv119h.rar and unzip it into the GameTypes folder...it won't affect any other games you have going or anything like that.  SE5 has pretty sophisticated support for mods.

Wait, you guys are doing sequential turns, and not simultaneous turn-taking with central turn processing?

I cringe with fear to have to sort out what the AI has been doing, but okay.

I'm a huge fan of this game and would love to play it if there are any open games going on.  PM me.

I've noticed that if a smelter is part of a burrow, then the required materials must be in the burrow as well. Otherwise the game thinks there is no access the required items.

That should NOT matter unless a dwarf is assigned to one burrow and not to another.
