Way back in the day, everyone used DFMA.

Does anyone use something else, now?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress - now too easy?
« on: August 31, 2014, 12:48:05 pm »
The biggest challenge in DF has always been in the early part of the game, when you're still struggling to deal with lack of resources, lack of training, lack of defenses, etc. If you're an aesthete, there's still plenty of challenge involved in designing a good-looking fortress that is still functional enough to repel the initial sieges/wildlife attacks. Once you really get rolling the challenges become exponentially less dangerous because of the nature of the game - which is that it is really a simulation first, game second. That seems to be your problem: DF is generally only going to remain interesting as long as you can think of ways to be creative and make it interesting, but you're looking at it as a traditional "game" which should provide constant challenge. Sometimes DF just doesn't do that - although if you try a more difficult biome it might be more to your liking. It sounds like your world/embark are on the easier side of things.

They need a nest box to breed.

New dev video - this one is just a very short clip showing off alterable terrain generation parameters:

Hey guys: is there cowboy getup in the new release? Dusters/hats/boots? There should be...

The original game is set in the New England states. Not much call for cowboys.

Except for lobster cowboys. In post-apocalyptic New England, the vacant strip malls and coastal tourist traps will be home to the fabled lobsterados, those grizzled and lonely free spirits whose only companions are the ten foot long crustaceans they have painstakingly separated from the roaming lobster-herds to serve as their trusty mounts. Of course, most of the lobsterados are missing a limb or two, or at the very least several digits, but that doesn't mean they should be underestimated.
Well, I know what I'm working on once we have NPCs functioning.

 :D

Here's the one I've got done so far, requested by Leafsnail:

As it turns out, snails are HARD. :(

PTW.
Waiting for my confirmation email now.
Let me know if you don't get it for some reason, Graknorke. It should just automatically generate and e-mail to you.
I did send an email to the support address, but since you're (probably) in charge of that too this is equally as good.
So yeah, it hasn't sent me the thing. No idea why. It's been just under 40 minutes now.

Strange, it seems to have worked well other Paypal purchasers, but it could be a glitch. I've sent you a PM requesting further info so I can manually create an account for you. Sorry about that!

Well, I have procedural worldgen parameters (alterable from in-game) all set. I'll record a short video demonstrating them tomorrow and toss it up. For now they only affect terrain generation, but I'll be adding the same kinds of options for naming/history/creatures/etc. later on.

The simplest and most sensible fix will be to just make fines progressively higher for each incorrect processing.

How do I attach my account on your forums to my kickstarter reward level?

You have to go to the User Control Panel, then Usergroups. Apply to join the correct group and email me at dm.hagar@gmail.com to let me know it's pending (or wait until I notice it on my next skim-through). :)
