Hello,

its been a long while since i played DF. Last time i played it in a windows environment. Now i use Linux Mint for a bunch of reasons, that are not worth mention anyway. So now i wanted to play again and got the LNP for Linux and encountered some technical difficulties.

My question: Is it okay to ask my question about running DF LNP on Linux right here or is there a proper place for this technical stuff?

indeed, and, to be precise: its a chalkbag, made for climbing (probably goblins stuff)

PopCap is already: 200 and i took the vanilla version from the LNP 40.05 R1. Do you think i should try the version from the original toady download? Or should i switch to R2?

Hi there!

Currently i am playing my first fort since the big update. It is now two years old and there have been no migrant wave at all. There had been a goblin diplomat from my mountainhome (why a goblin?), traders of all kinds but no migrants. Who can i do?

World Info: 250 Years Old, middle size, Version:40.05, etc

I understand the feelings of OP in some respect, though i agree with you about the fact, that this kind of features need their time and are certainly appreciable. In my opinion the feeling is raised by all the hopes and hypes (yes, there are some!) that are connected with the game,    especially when it comes to updates. Therefore i think it is hard to judge him for his disappointment, but it is still very alright to correct him: The actual update foreshadows what is yet to come.

I am very happy about this update, and i am not even a big fan (not yet?) of adventure mode (though i love nethack and similar games as everybody else does.). But there is still the very subjective (maybe even childish) part in me, that cultivate high hopes. Example given: I hope the update process will be alot faster next time, because there so many little features, that i think, are easy to implement (e. g. smoking dwarfs, gay dwarfes, new random dialoges, new items, the taverna, loading goblins into siegeequipments, little details) that will help the game to grow as well as the big wonderfull changes we got with the latest version of df. In fact it would be twofaced not to dream of these wonderfull little details and not to compare these ideas with the outcome of the work. It just natural to think and feel about this, as it is natural but wrong to conclude this update would not be a very big step forward! (fyi: i dont play masterworks/mods..(yet) )

I still playing my 2ndfort. Today my fort "bloodboat" suffered quite alot. A FB killed about 32 dwarfs, so there  are only 62 dwarfs left - many of them are injured and depressed.

Here u can see the cruel monster i have spoken of, allready near death after killing about 14 soldiers.  :'(

I guess the update is coming soon and i am eager to test it out - so i will continue some tests on this fort and let it slide into death. I never had railways/carts, therefore i am looking for some good tutorials (short or long).

note: i also redirected an underwater see/river into magma to see what happens. Now there are many collapses/cave ins and steam all over the cavern but still no adamite.

I am amazed how structured most of the designs look, i just make them up as is go. Some of your designs are so minimalistic, i would not want to live in these fortresses. ;) (though, my designs are probably just an expression of my amateurstyle.

It should be possible, that a Dwarf get possessed and is trying to work on an epic books. In this very rare cases, he may even demand precious gems, gold and colors [NEW] to create a well pictured book. Also there should be a possibility for creating something like the Necronomicon, or some kind of horror book that frightened many dwarfs, if he dont get all the materials he needs.

Jars of bees is a pretty funny idea, imo. Maybe we also could bombard our foes with jars of blood etc.
