Skee calmly analyzed the situation. Contrarily to the Arachnastinians, the Makralians lacked any real ranged firepower, which put them at a massive disadvantage on this battlefield. The heavy cavalry also seemed threatening, but the Great Horde had more than enough brawn to match this kind of fighter, and once the archers stopped raining arrows on their heavy frontliners, they would be able to break through with no problem. However, it's not like Skee and his pack could easily take down the archers... First, they would have to get to them unnoticed. Being discovered would risk an immediate counterattack, which would most likely skewer them right there and then. And then, even if they got to close range... Skee wasn't sure he could deal with that black leader. He hadn't faced any such Arachnastinian in the previous battles, and he could tell he was most likely much more dangerous than the small fry he'd had to deal with before. No matter how much he thought about it, there was no way to safely get rid of them.

Or at least... no way to do it alone.

Skee, remembering the tournament matches he had watched after getting crushed by Napash knew that in the entire great horde was just one Makralian that was perfect for this job. Klikshi the Gale. With his blazing speed, he could easily get to the archers, allowing you to follow right behind while they'd be distracted by his attack and take them out in coordination. Now the only thing left to do was contact him.

Using his new found [Telepathy], Skee attempted to speak with Klikshi, speaking these words. "Hello, Greater Leader Klikshi ? This is pack leader Shnapa, I'm speaking to you directly in your mind. I've spotted where the enemy archers are, along with what seems to be one of their leaders. I think that with your great speed, we could easily take them out and eliminate this ranged threat which we have no means to match. This would in turn allow other Greater Leaders such as Napash and Knakarsh to fight more easily. What do you say ? Just think your answer, I'll be able to hear it as well."

"Shnapa, we're gonna have to take out these archers. This shouldn't be too different from our last battle, but be careful of the Black Leader. Just like you said, you can fully handle the body now, although I'll intervene if necessary."

If Klikshi agrees, communicate the location of the Black Leader and his archers cohort to him telepathically. Then, warn your pack that the level of enemies in this battle will be greater than what they've faced before, and that they should try to save themselves if they're in danger. Once Klikshi has made his move, or is close enough, go with your pack to attack the archers, using [Mind Crusher] on the Black Leader and [Telekinesis] to try and snap his greatbow. Then, you can focus your [Telekinesis] on enhancing Shnapa's speed and the power behind his strikes. If arrows are shot at you, quickly use [Psychic Forcefield] to defend yourself.

If Klikshi doesn't agree, try using [Mind Crusher] from afar on the archers, while watching out for retaliation. Shnapa should be able to focus on dodging at the distance. This should at least relieve some of the pressure on Knakarsh.

"Shnapa. You're saying I'm a symbiote, and your friend ? I have to tell you, originally, I just planned to use your body as a stepping stone to possess a more powerful one. I only healed you, helped you grow and fight, made plans, for my own benefit. And yet..."

Skee paused, before continuing.

"I've grown accustomed to this body, to you, Shnapa. Attached, perhaps even. Fighting alongside a pack, being a part of a greater organization such as the Horde... Those are things I had never experienced before. Usually, parasites do not go for social monsters, because it's easy for their consorts to tell something is wrong, and they get discovered right away. I guess our meeting was... fated ? We both got to experience new, exciting things. Shnapa. I will not erase you. I believe there is something to be gained of our association. And for what it's worth, well, I'm... glad that you could experience this growth as well. Your old life, it sounds a lot like my old life. Not very interesting, to say the least. Anyways. You mentioned you wanted to help. What do you have in mind exactly, partner ?"

(...)

(Back to the present)

Skee arrived at the heart of battle. Such chaos ! Any wrong move now could get him and his pack decimated. Quickly, he decided a course of action. Mentioning his pack to stay close to him, he stayed away from the combat for now while trying to analyze the situation. In particular, he looked for the great leaders. Where were they ? Who were they fighting ? The best way to act was probably to try and assist them. They represented the biggest power in the horde. Should they die or be incapacitated, the Horde's chances of winning would be greatly diminshed. Skee also tried to identify the most powerful entities on the other side, and what powers they seemed to display. Lastly, speaking in his own mind, he asked "Hey, Shnapa. Any ideas ?".

Never in the entirety of its solitary parasite's life had Skee heard something like this, from a host. Well, not that he'd really talked much with his hosts before. Much less been thanked by them for using their body ! Honestly, the whole situation took him aback a little bit. But he supposed he should give an answer, at the very least. Who knew what would come of this ?

"Uh... yes... Hello. This is an... unusual situation, to say the least, but I suppose I can answer your questions." Skee declared hesitantly, before continuing.

"My name is Skee, although amongst my species, our own names usually matter little because of our way of life. I come from the jungle, just like you. As for who I am... For the most part, my life was just about surviving, infecting weak and easy hosts who wouldn't put up much of a fight just to be able to eat and hide from predators, discarding their bodies to escape when I was in trouble. But recently, something changed ? I don't know if I got bored, or if the power struggles of the jungle awoke this side of me, but I somehow developped a desire for more. More than just a life spent hiding. The ambition to grow stronger and stronger. Thinking about it now, it seems like the same thing happened to others, too. Just a look at the new Makralian horde's leaders should tell you as much. If I had to guess, it has to do with this "essence" stuff that's been going around."

Skee paused, realizing he'd never really talked about this with anyone, or even really materalized these thoughts. I guess having a conversation partner for once was helping him realize some things.

"You also asked what I like ? Mmhhh... Parasites don't usually have much of a personality of their own, but I guess I've taken a liking to the excitement of the fights I've... or should I say, we've been into. And what about you, Shnapa ? I'm kind of surprised a host would thank me for using their body... What was your life like before ?" He asked, still surprised by Shnapa's earlier statement.

(Action for after the conversation : Once everyone is sufficiently rested, Skee went back to the Horde, following the calls. Wouldn't wanna fall behind too much.)

After the battle was over, Skee rejoined with his host's pack and quickly noticed they were worn out from the previous scuffles. He briefly considered injecting them with some regenerative serum, then decided against it. Their condition was not dire enough to justify such an effort, and they would probably recover quickly if given the time. Since there were also quite a few things he had been meaning to check since the great tournament, but simply didn't have the time to because of their upstart new leader, who had commanded the jungle raid so quickly. Thus, he told the pack they would rest a bit and tend to their wounds before going back into the fray.

One of the few things that had been on Skee's mind for quite a while now, but especially recently, was his host's improvement, or rather the uncertain nature of it. Since he had invaded his body, he had been through many battles, and while he hismelf definitely had improved, mostly thanks to the strange substance that allowed him and other monsters to evolve again and again, his host seemed to not have gone through such changes. Or, at least, not that he knew of. Which is why he wanted to reexamine his host's capabilities. Since the day he engineered Shnapa's hands to be more suitable to wielding weapons, Skee's host had shown surprising agility and proficiency with the bladed tail and felled many opponents. Had he improved at all since he started out ? Did he develop his skills ? Or did Skee's dominion over him prevented such new developments ?

Another thing that Skee wanted to test out was Shnapa's physical abilities. When he had to repair and rebuild most of his nerves, bones and muscles after that gargantuan monster of a greater leader caught him unaware and turned his insides to mush, he made sure they were better and sturdier than before, more efficient. But he didn't really take the time to examine the effects it had on Shanpa overall. Did he get stronger, tougher, more agile compared to when he first started using him ?

Last but not least, something else had occured after Shnapa's assisted recovery. A strange change, an impulse, or an awakening of sorts, within Shnapa's brain. Something unlike anything Skee had ever experienced while inside an host. In that moment, he decided not to prod into the matter further, as he was afraid of the possible consequences. But he couldn't resist the curiosity any longer. Besides, there could be room for improvement there too. After all, Skee was growing stronger and stronger and he felt that soon this body would no longer be enough, at least if he didn't change anything about it. And if this strange brain reaction he had felt could provide an opportunity for improvement, then he had to explore it. Thus, Skee finally attempted to investigate Shanpa's "brain change" from the aftermath of the tournament. What was that all about ?

He also kept plans in the back of his head for possible further modifications to Shnapa's body. The human-like hands had worked very well, and that successful first try at a modest change had emboldened him to try new things later. A fire breathing appendage perhaps ? Or maybe a set of wings, or a poison gland, or, or... But no, he shouldn't get ahead of himself. For now, he would simply reexplore Shnapa's body, noting everything remarkable about him, and Makralians in general, in order to get ideas of what could be improved upon.

Spoiler: Detail (click to show/hide)
Attack Roll: 5=[6]-1
Defender Roll: 13=[11]+2
[Failed Attack]
[Open for Counterattack]

[[Just a thing, it didn't matter here, but it seems you didn't take Skee's [Mind over Matter] for this defense roll. Maybe you forgot, or maybe it was intentional ? Idk, but just thought i'd remind you. Sorry if I was mistaken !]]

As predicted, dispatching the spearmen was no challenge at all. Skee decided to simply let his host handle the last remaining spear-wielder while focusing his powers on the archers his pack was fighting with, using [Mind Crusher] to attack them and [Telekinesis] to attempt to make them fall down from the tree. Once the battle was over, he would collect the essence, check on his packmates, and pressed on, following the other packs' calls once again.

Skee, the Insect Parasite (Legendary Marksdorf)
You congratulated the pack for this well-earned victory against a fierce foe, beckoning them to rest and recover some energy before venturing deeper. They roared and howled in delight and pride, unaware of the change you had just gone through. Before letting them feast on the carcass, you examined the Archnastinian's body.

Heavily armoured as it was, light blows would only glance on its thick exoskeleton. Its joints were weaker and prime targets for attacks, but there were no clear or hidden weak spots beyond that. It did possess a heart and some sort of brain, all localized in a heavily protected chest cavity. Its many-eyed head was full of nerves and sensory organs, which made you think a sufficiently powerful blow to the head could potentially stun them from pain and sensory overload.

After the pack had scraped off all edible bits of flesh from the body, you resumed the careful advance into enemy grounds.

Deeper into the fray: [4,3] -Good, Passable-

The further you got, the more bodies of both sides littered the ground with gore and blood. Both nearby and afar, you could hear calls from other packs from which your Host could process useful information: other packs had advanced deep, and it seemed the packs led by the Greater Leaders were still active and at the forefront. Some of the calls even forewarned you of potential enemies ahead, allowing you to avoid ambushes and instead get the drop on them.

Using one of the calls from a defeated pack, you managed to sneakily circle around an ambush spot. Hidden in the trees were four Arachnastinians armed with their characteristic bows using a reverse chitin blade in their arms with their own webs to shoot crude but deadly arrows made from wood and chitin.

Four archers in the trees, and three spear users on the ground.

Spoiler: Skee Status (click to show/hide)

Shnapa's pack was faced with a different challenge this time; A cohort of weaker ennemies, but with good formation and number's advantage, something which Skee supposed the Makralians, who were natural pack hunters, weren't used to. It became clear he would have to take on several enemies at once so his pack wouldn't be overwhelmed. Once again, he explained his plan to the pack. While he would remain on the ground, they would climb up the trees as stealthily as possible, taking positions near the hidden archers. Once they'd be ready, Shnapa would attack the spear-wielding creatures to draw attention, and the pack would strike down the archers before rejoining him on the ground. If something went wrong and the spearmen went after the pack somehow, or if they were spotted before they could get close, he advised them to simply run away. A simple plan, but given the difference in ability between himself and the enemies, all should go well.

Once the pack was in position, Skee would inject Shnapa with [Bolstering Serum] once again and have him use [Fur Hardening] before rushing towards the spear-wielding Arachnastinians. Skee would first use [Mind Crusher] on the closest opponent to destabilize him, hopefully creating an opening for his host's attack while keeping his [Telekinesis] ready to send any Arachnastinian that attempted to counterattack away. If things got dangerous, he would try to disengage, and keep repeating this pattern until the archers had been taken down by his pack. Once they had succeeded, he would switch to a more aggressive style, using [Telekinesis] on his host's Bladed Tail when he attacked to improve the force behind his strikes. If at any point the archers fired at him, he would raise a [Psychic Forcefield] around his host. If he got surrounded by the spearmen, he would unleash [Wave of Terror].

[[Glad to see you back again Nakeen ! Hopefully no more long hiatuses this time, I've been missing this game like crazy :)]]

(Ahhhh, missed your return again ;-; glad to see you back though)

Spoiler: Stage 3 evolution (click to show/hide)

The battle went exactly as Skee planned, his pack even surpassing his expectations. After congratulating the other makralians for their battle prowess, Skee examined the arachnastinian's body, looking anything to learn from its anatomy that might help Skee in its future battles against its brethren. Are there any hidden weak spots ? Where are the vital organs under that thick carapace ? After that, if the meat from the fallen foe seemed edible, Skee and the pack would take a short break from the carnage to feed on it, after which they would look around for traces of other nearby Makralian packs to try and join up with them. After all, they were pretty deep into arachnastinian territory already, and the multitude of simian bodies scattered around the arachnastinian champion proved that a little caution wouldn't hurt. Then, regardless of whether or not they found friendly company, they would advance deeper into arachnastinian territory, looking for more enemies.

If the countless dead bodies lying broken and beaten in the web were any indicator, taking this thing head on was a bad idea. Skee motioned the rest of the pack closer, trying not to alert the monster. Once they were close enough, he whispered his plan to them: They would climb through the trees, moving swiftly and stealthily through the foliage as to, once again, remain unnoticed by the monster, while spreading apart so they would be circling the monster from above. Once they were in position, they would begin attacking from afar by throwing stuff at it. This would lead to two possible outcomes: Either it doesn't have a way to attack from a distance, so it would chase them into the trees, at which point they would have the advantage as the Makralians were particularly adept in this environment. They were able to take down the Banera because of their teamwork and great proficiency at arboreal fighting, so in this scenario they should be able to come out on top. Still, Skee advised the pack that, in this case, one of them should run away from the beast while the other tried to attack it from behind as to avoid any potential casualties. In the other scenario, they would be forced to go into close range combat as the monster would probably be more adept than them at long range fighting. So, they would all let out a rallying cry before jumping down on the monster in unison, trying to use the height of the drop and their numbers to their advantage. In that case it would be a swarming battle like the ones they usually fought.

Once it was sure all makralians understood, he would motion for them to get into position, and once they all were, inject [Bolstering Serum] into his host's body, then start the hostilities by using [Mind Crusher] from a distance. If the creature began moving towards him, he would try to outpace it until the others got close again, at which point it would unleash another [Mind Crusher] to disorient the beast and then rush it with his Banera's Bladed Tail in hand, trying to skewer it's massive body. If the monster instead chased one of the others, he would just keep repeatedly using [Mind Crusher] while getting closer and observing the battle from a reasonable distance. Should one of the pack be in danger, he would immediately charge the creature, using [Fur Hardening] and [Regenerative Serum] to try and lessen incoming injuries.

If the monster instead retaliated from a distance, he would simply let out a [Rallying Cry] and jump down blade-first towards the beast, once again preemptively using [Fur Hardening] and [Regenerative Serum].

Skee simply waits, listening to the other leader's ideas. No need to stand out right now, everything is going as planned. Now that the Horde has been formed, Makralians will inevitably clash with stronger and stronger opponents, giving Skee room to grow and test out his own abilities, while also being part of a powerful group. Speaking of group, check what the members of the pack are up to. Anything special about any of them? After that Banera fight, it became pretty clear in Skee's eyes that he would need to develop some sort of team strategy with the remaining members if they wanted to be able to take on powerful opponents. Once that's done, join the others in the "Great Feast", looking for strong prey.

In the meantime, make sure to take note any changes within your host's body and mind. Now that you won't be drawing so mich attention from the others, try communicating with Shnapa's conscience. Why not start with a simple greeting? These recent changes seem beneficial so far, perhaps this will be as well.

Oh and, you put down the Banera's tail before fighting that humongous guy that snapped you like a twig, but where is it now ? Make sure to take it with you, it will prove useful in the jubgle, as it already did in the first round of the tournament.

((Hey, to be honest, I didn't actually expect you to come back this time, but I sure am happy you did. I hope everything's alright for you and your folks in these trying times.))

You felt a strange presence within your host. Could it be ? The hosts' original conscience ? How strange, this had never happend to you before. You somehow understood that you could probably communicate with it if you tried to, but you decided not to for the time being. If Shnapa's consciousness manifests itself again, you'll consider it, but for now, you'd rather not risk it, as the results would be imprevisible and may blow your cover. For now, you'll just let your host's body swear allegiance to Krauraka, but make sure it does nothing suspicious on its own. So the hungry had won the tournament, huh ? At least he seemed ambitious. You pondered how this would influence the Makralians' future... ((timeskip forward ? seems like nothing of interest will be happening for some time while the new Makralian society is still getting organized.))

Try to assess the changes that occured in your hosts' brain. Are they beneficial ? In the meantime, observe the final match. There's probably much to learn from this...

Keep waiting and trying to understand Shnapa's brain, without tampering with it too much. Open your host's eyes so you may watch the semi-finals, but keep resting.

Skee felt relieved, as Shnapa's life and his own were no longer at risk. However, it seemed the shock had been a little too hard, and his host had fell into a coma. While that might not be immediately problematic, it would definitely interfere with Skee's plans of rising to the top of Makralian society, especially since he was unable to speak their language on his own. Eventually he'd have to deal with this, one way or another. However, now was not the time, especially since he didn't know the inner workings of the host's brain. For now, Skee would just make Shnapa tell the other pack members that he was fine, speaking monster tongue, before going back to "sleep", waiting for his host's body to fully regenerate, while using this time to study his hosts' brain, attempting to figure out what was wrong with it and how to fix it.
