DF Gameplay Questions / reanimated head stuck on tree

I dispatched some undead and a head flew off and landed on a tree and reanimated. The problem is my marksdwarves cannot kill it (took multiple shots and didnt die), my melee dwarves cannot reach it, and I cant build anything near the tree or chop the tree as my civilians flee as soon as they take sight of it.

Any tips for dispatching the treedwelling head of terror?

Hi,

I embarked with some weapons and armour. When I set up the squads I accidentally selected my best weapon for the symbol for the militia captain position. Now the holder of that position will not equip it (or anyone else), and when I try to add a specific weapon for him the list does not contain that weapon.

Anyone knows whats up?

I only want the bugs to be fixed. With a steam release it will be a lot more pressure to fix bugs instead of adding them in, and that will help with lot of the frustrations I experienced trying to minmax my forts as I do.

I have not defeated a demon with legendary dwarfs yet. But I have a demon in my fort. Will try if she can defeat other demons once she is trained up and equipped.

It was quite a long time ago but I killed a demon with a normal 10 legendary steel armour/weapon equipped dwarves. I think it killed like 2 and then got slain. Was it a fluke?

you can throw your more capable dwarves into squads and start training them. I see nothing wrong with a fort having mostly fighters.

Nice test.  Does any type of operator flee, i.e., does the operator's bravery or military skill (or etc.) matter?

A blind operator doesn't flee. ;)

Do you guys know of a controlled way to .......never mind, thats way too dark for me..

Missing/Broken features:
In manager (j>m), create a "decorate with shell" command, then press Details (d). Try to specify the type of shell, or the type of item to decorate; neither will work.
Hotkeys (H) still will not allow function buttons to be pressed to set another hotkey besides F1.
Naming burrows.

Does anyone know if 32x32 tileset is supported or not? If it is, what is the setup process?
Arbitrary sized tilesets are supported in v0.2. To set up, take the tileset you want to use, replace magenta with transparency, and save it as a .png in /hack/www/art; then, either one of two methods work to use your tileset. First version, in /hack/www/config.js edit the tiles, text, and overworld parameters to the filename of your tileset. OR, when the game is running, type "localhost:8000/dfplex.htlm?tiles=x.png&text=x.png&overworld=x.png", where x is your tileset.

This seems to be incomplete to reach a look of Meph or Vettlingr like in the latest LNP packs. So its probably unsupported?

If they pass out their helm gets removed and they die pretty fast after that. Also no armor might help them get tired later. I didnt try this tho.

Steel for rigid armor pieces. Adamantine for mail shirt methinks.
So far i killed thousands of goblins and other beasts and i dont remember any of my dwarves being hit. They are about invincible within 2 years game time.

Thanks for the insight! My fort is around 15 years old with 400 inhabitants. Im losing Fps year by year.
Maybe i can mod out masterworks? In a new world? Would that help? The fort made around 70,000 masterwork items 95% of which was useless like cloth food and crafts related.

I dont think so.

Ahem. Might be possible that in order to use less dfhack commands in game I sold around 3,000 tattered cloth items each year to merchants instead of destroying them with my atom smasher.

Too bad there is no dfhack command to purge these tables.

Next fort I will try to militarize everyone from the beginning (to avoid using civilian clothes altogether).

When my FPS was around 8-10 I made a test, killed 350 (all but a handful) of dwarves, all of the 200 animals, destroyed 60,000 items (really almost everything the fort had), closed off caves, flux and ore dig layers, turned off everything that could affect fps.
The average FPS went up to 30. Its a joke. Pathfinding (for me) wasnt the issue as literally only 2-3 percent of the moving entities remained, and still FPS didnt go up much.
My current theory is that either my 5x5 map might be too big or my large world is. Im sticking with my fort for a project but after that im gonna embark on a 3x3 in a much smaller world, with only 1 cavern layer and max 40-50 z levels.
Up until that I just workflowed/managered everything, turned of all announcements except sieges, and just let DF run in the background at night or when Im at work.
