DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Dissapearing fortresses bug!
« on: July 29, 2022, 10:52:01 pm »
Mountain halls do not connect to the surface by design, because they are under impassable mountains. As for the disappearing hatch, it's a known bug.

All 3 stairs you found are part of the same mountain hall, and I don't know if that is intentional.

So, yeah, starting in a mountain hall is a bad idea unless you know its tunnels connect to a dwarven fortress, as you probably won't hav access to the surface.
Thanks for the explanation!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Dissapearing fortresses bug!
« on: July 29, 2022, 09:52:42 pm »
I first spawned in a mountain hall, with a party off two. I inquired for troube blabla. When i take the central staircase, it takes me to a tunnel network, and end of the staircase. I then walked all the tunnel until its end, where a hatch waited... Another underground mini 2z level dwarven outpost, without possibility to go to the surface. I do the same thing in another direction, until I reach the end of the second road, where I a met with the same results. I saved the game, and when i reloaded and walked back to the start point(the very first mountain hall) the hatch had dissapeared. Then I came back to the dead end where i came from and that hatch also dissapeared.
I revealed the map using dfhack, and behold, the outpost is still there, its just not connected to anything anymore? Now everutime i reload that save the same thing happens. Any idea why this and the no surface exist thing happened?

Solved, i started flazing pots and they started using them. It doesnt matter whether they will be holding liquids or not, they dont use them if they are not glazed.
They used to. What version are you on?
Last version.
Are your pots made of rock? Wiki says if you make earthenware (clay) pots they have to be glazed to hold liquids. So that's probably where you went wrong. Make rock pots. They don't need to be (and probably can't be) glazed.

Now, unglazed clay pots not holding dry goods is probably a bug (wiki thinks it should work) so maybe report that one.
How do i report a bug?
Post a report on the bug tracker, here:
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/my_view_page.php

If you have a save demonstrating the problem, zip up your save (save\region1 usually) and upload it to Dwarf Fortress file depot. Add a link to your bug report.
http://dffd.bay12games.com/

I did a quick search of the tracker and it doesn't look like this has been reported before.

Just to be clear though, your issue is non-glazed clay pots not holding food, right? Rock pots are working OK?
Idk, i only used Clay pots as I wanted to emulate byzantine empire ceramic centric containers

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Question, Human with weird title

And, by the way "last version" is a very poor answer to the question of which version is used. It's not that uncommon, for starters, that people think they're using the latest version, while they have, in fact, missed an update, and, secondly, the answer gets invalidated as soon as a new version comes out (which, for whatever we know, could happen minutes after posting).
ok. Version 0.47.04

Any suggestions?

On the topic of food hauling, here is why and how it works.

Hey, i just did that. I openened the job list and there was no task related to the stockpiles ongoing

You shouldn't have to change the stockpile settings for them to use barrels ? They do so automatically, unless you changed your default stockpile settings somehow.

Bins are not used for food stockpiles, only in some other kind of stockpiles (anything but stone, corpses, food, refuse, and furniture - though you can store empty bins in a furniture stockpile, you can't use bins as storage in one). You should keep it to zero. Maybe it's that and dwarves are not using barrels.

And of course, it might be any of the standard problems such as : do you have a path from the furniture stockpile to the food stockpiles ? Are dwarves allowed the correct hauling jobs ? Do you have enough idle dwarves.
I mean, they can walk into the storage room? I dont get the correct hauling Jobs thing. Last time i checked they had all the hauling Jobs enabled. I have lots of dwarves idling in the tavern. One lore thing there is a guy that say something about stockpiles getting filled too fast. I made several stockpiles to fight this, problem is that they have empty spaces in the stockpile next to the food which is laying in the floor
