DF Suggestions / Noble Connections should mean something
« on: August 15, 2019, 01:30:02 am »
When one of your dwarves inherits a title, it would be cool if this had real connection to the world.  For example, if you don't meet the dwarf's requirements or mandates, the dwarf might leave to go to rule more directly over his/her people... and perhaps, if he stays, his subjects could offer gifts in tribute.  Of course, other threads could also be expanded upon with the whole "villains" things, attracting ancestral enemies but also inviting the retrieval of ancestral artifacts.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Stealth Vampires? Is this a thing?

At a guess, that's her real name, while the Units list shows a cover identity (or possibly vice versa). At a further guess, she's a migrant who was out spying for your civ when she got "drafted" into joining your fortress (It's a known bug that migrants can come with fake identities and jobs, and at least at some time DT showed real identities for some units that "should" be under cover [I believe vampires were fixed a long time ago, but buggy migrants are new]).
Yet another guess is that she is innocent, as it's usually the "witness" who's the real vampire (and quite frequently the mayor). It's not that uncommon for vampires to "witness" A committing the crime of draining B, only for A to be the next one to be drained (Help! a vampire group attack!!!)...
It should be noted that visitors can be vampires as well. Currently they're announced as such in the announcement, but nowhere else, and it's easy to miss them. If you do, it's almost impossible to find out who the visitor vampire is without witch testing (various tests resulting in innocents getting killed by the tests, while those who are not killed are vampires).
Check the wiki for finding out how to identify vampire citizens.

As indicated, vampires always operate under a fake id, but both DF and DT should roll with that (there was a bug with petitioners, where petitioning vampires were petitioning under their real names, but that's been fixed).

Avuz was the cover-identity--Ino Nodoti was her real name.  Fortunately, there were multiple witnesses in each case, and like I said, Dwarf Therapist confirmed this.  The thing is, I could place labor assignments, but could not draft the character into the military or other role (including Tavern Keeper), nor could I add her to a burrow because I couldn't find either her fake ID or her real one in any of the searchable lists.

UPDATE:  It turns out that, while I couldn't search for her by name, I was able to search for her by profession.  Typing that into the search brought up all my gelders, and there she was!  Now I just need to figure out how to get her out of the way...

DF Gameplay Questions / Stealth Vampires? Is this a thing?

It's been a while since I've had a vampire in one of my forts, and so when a message came up that someone had been drained of blood, I was looking forward to bringing her to justice.  "Avuz Rablitast," our gelder, had been seen by witnesses committing these murders, yet when I look on the list of citizens, she does not appear at all;  she does not show up on searches, nor on the job lists, and I cannot assign her to a squad or to a burrow.  I got out Dwarf Therapist, and it could find her.  It wasn't until about an hour ago that I managed to find her, innocently storing blocks in their stockpile.  Is this a new behavior of DF?  Intentional?  Bug?  It certainly makes the situation interesting, but it also makes things difficult when you need to isolate and/or punish someone.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Successful Slave Rescue! Now What?
« on: February 24, 2018, 12:34:56 am »
Ah.  Hm.  This wasn't given to me by a quest-giver.  I found the kids as slaves in another city, and they asked for help, so I brought them home.
I think I remember reading somewhere if you "Ask them about the journey", it will prompt them to say whether they have reached their destination... can't say for sure.
I brought them to their father, to whom they asked I bring them, and no, it didn't.  I left them there, and they just said the noncommittal, "It is for the best."

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Successful Slave Rescue! Now What?

So I found two elven slaves and managed to get them back to the village where their father is.  How do I get the father to take them back?  I know I could just ditch them, but it would be nice to reunite the family, get the credit for actually helping people and maybe even a little bit of a rep for returning the kids home.  What do I need to do to make this happen?
