Could I be put down for a turn?

It looks like a fantastic mess you've got here.

2
No-one has had the time to do anything lately, so you could take a turn now if you want.
That offer extends to anyone else, too.
PM me for an invite to the Discord group.

I think two or three drowned.

Winter

Nice. A stone box for the nobles to store their stuff in.
Speaking of nobles, the mayor was elected at some point and I have been completely ignoring them.

I think the minecarts are working, but I didn't have time to do thorough tests. Too much time was spent fiddling with doors to keep everyone off of the tracks.

The fort shall now be passed on to whoever is next.

Autumn

Setting up waterwheels to power rollers.

Turns out I don't know how pressure works.

These turned up.

The minecarts should be good to go, as soon as I can persuade the dwarves to stop hauling rocks up and down the tracks.

These updates are getting shorter and shorter. Winter will end up being two words.

Summer

Summer was rather uneventful. Built a few mechanisms to make sure that minecarts didn't get stuck under lava.
Then this happened.

Dropped 5 layers into the magma chamber. Seems to be ok. Will probably get infected though.

A rather boring amulet dedicated to another group that I haven't heard of.

I'll try to get the minecarts running during autumn.

I did think about using a macro, but decided that it would be cheating. I'm not sure what was going through my head at the time. Things are also now not in 100% chronological order.

Spring

I found a paper by an old engineer on some of the strange behaviour of minecarts. It makes very little sense, talking about quantum and teleportation, but it seems to have some useable designs. I've ordered one of them to be built for propelling carts up ramps at high speeds.

A weaponsmith called Erib Zithisinod has claimed a forge as her own, fighting off anyone who tries to use it. She has started working feverishly.

Oh. Very shiny, but completely useless.

You idiot! You can't hunt wombats if you are dead! Get back inside!

The tracks were made with impressive speed, so the only thing left to do is clear them of boulders. Unfortunately, at least a quarter of the fort is spending the whole time listening to poetry.

7
Never done minecarts before, so I hope it works. Took at least two hours to designate the tracks.

Winter

No-one seems to know what the Brown Society is or what being the lord of it means.

Tracks have been dug down to magma.

Stockpiles have been made to store all of the stone from mining.

A visiting human was caught in a cloud of infernal smoke and became a zombie.
I ordered our military out to deal with them.

The zombie was killed, but not before fatally wounding one of the soldiers, Sibrek Monangineth.

We've had a bit of fun! Unfortunately I forgot to take many screenshots.

Autumn

We are under attack from a giant. I've ordered everyone into the fort. Unfortunately, it caught Xvareon, a stonecrafter called Reg Netheral and a marksdwarf called Likot Adilmozib next to the stream. Xvareon and Reg were both killed, but Likot managed to knock the giant unconscious, before bludgeoning it to death with a crossbow.

I've had a tomb made for the dead. Nothing fancy.

The miners have finally finished digging. We now have a chamber for magma storage. Now we just need to get the magma up. I've ordered minecarts made and tunnels dug down.

Summer

These performers just don't stop coming. I've started declining their petitions on sight.

Hopefully giving Edzul some glass will calm her down. I've sent Staalo down to the trade depot to get some.

A craftsdwarf has come running up to me. Wants me to see some figurine he has made.

Commemorating the death of an annoying kobald. Quite why he thought this was worth disturbing me for is anyones guess.

It seems that the glass didn't help. Edzul was completely incoherent when we let her out. Wouldn't speak, wouldn't eat.

The miners are making a bit of progress, but nothing impressive.

10
I'll have another look but I can't find any sand.

Spring

Staalo seemed a bit too keen to pass the fort on to me. I don't think he's cut out too run a fort. Not focused enough. Too idealistic. Its time to make some changes around here.
To start with, the magma forges are deep underground. More time is spent hauling stuff up and down the stairs than actually forging. I've ordered the miners to start digging, but little progress has been made.

We've got a petition from some performers who want to join our civilisation. I've let some in to keep the workers happy, but I don't expect them to do much but drain our booze.

A cloud of infernal smoke has appeared on the other side of the stream. It's rather large, but shows no signs of coming our way.

The miners have caused a cave in, with one injuring their hand. I've had a good shout at them for carelessness and set them back to work.

Edzul Nishâmid has claimed a glass furnace and started muttering. She refuses to leave and won't let anyone near her. I order her walled in before she goes completely mad and starts causing trouble.

More petitions from performers are coming in, which I reject out of hand. A few monster hunters and a soldier have also submitted petitions. I accepted them, on the basis that more military is never a bad thing.

Spring is over with minimal progress from the miners. I'm disappointed in them quite frankly.

First order of the day: digging out marble.

I had a look around the fort while the miners were digging.

Odd. Bedrooms full of statues. Very few bedrooms, at that. 20 for 80 odd dwarves. We need more!

Much better.

The metalworking area was expanded with more smelters and a marble stockpile.
I set the dwarves to work making traps to guard the entrance.

Zuglar had made more than 100 crowns by this point. I wouldn't call it a particularly significant event.

The caves are walled off. No worries.

Can someone please tell èzum that baths and bloodbaths are not the same thing? Someone other than me.

We've got a statue commemorating last years library murder now.

Steel sawblades. 150 of them. Nothing gets in now.
The forgedwarves have now been tasked with making adventuring gear.

The queen got some new decoration for her quarters.

And a much larger tomb.

The bedrooms are finished.

It menaces with spikes of boring.

The weapons have been made and stockpiled.

Time to test the traps.

I ordered the military to take up stations behind the traps, to finish off any stragglers. Unfortunately, they had put all of their weapons in the stockpile with the adventuring weapons. They would see the goblins and charge at them unarmed. Surprisingly, they took out a decent number of goblins.

The remaining goblins seemed reluctant to enter the fort, preferring to hang around in a pile of corpses. Perhaps someone told them about the traps.

Sudden panic.

Panic averted.

Oh. I was right the first time.

Her royal highness is dead. Oddly, no attempt to appoint a successor is made and no information on how she died can be found. I'm guessing that she was caught outside the fort by the goblins, but I can't find a combat report.

No idea how to deal with this. Just close the gates. It can torment the cats.
We need to let the adventurers get the weapons you say?
Alright, open the gates and hope.

We've got a titan sitting outside the fort. It doesn't seem to be preventing retiring the fort, but I'm going to put the save up pre-retire just in case.
The gear for adventurers is on the right as you enter the fort. Don't go down the ramps past the trade depot, the sawblades are at the bottom of them. You are unlikely to survive.

I started again, and it was all going well up until a goblin siege arrived right outside the front door. They charged straight in before I could close the door. Went through three queens in as many minutes, before crashing.
Oh well, try again.  ::)

We might want some better defences for the next fort.

If you are happy with me taking two years in a row, I'll carry on in my hunt for adamantine.

If that doesn't work out, I'll restart from where UselessMcMiner left off. We do have flux, so I can make steel equipment.

Edit: There is adamantine, but not much, and it is entirely submerged in lava, so getting it will be very slow. It might be easier to do steel.
