General Discussion / Woodhaven Semi-RPG Discord Project
« on: December 15, 2020, 08:35:46 am »
Hi guys!

I wasn't entirely sure where to put this, but I have started up a semi-RPG discord project called Woodhaven. It's a community at the least, good humour at best, and a gambling problem at the most! I'm still adding bits to it, but profiles and rpg/economy system bots are in. I'll be looking to tune in on the roleplaying bits next.

The basic idea is to treat channels like buildings/areas, where some are private dwellings, and others are public purposes. The owners have full rights to the channel. I'd also like to get some type of democratic/political system in for voting in leaders and the like!

Over the years I've known Bay12ers to be super opened minded folk. You're dwarves at best with your curiosity for the machina, so I'd love it if you'd drop in and check it out!

The next boat to Woodhaven is loading up, with the boatswain preparing to pull away the boarding plank. He locks gaze with you in your hesitance...

No obligation commitment, though your statutory standings with me may be affected.

Snips below :)

Looks really cool! Really hope you make good on this project.

Thanks man! I've been passionate about the idea behind this game since 2009, you've probably seen a couple of failed attempts historically from myself on DF, but this one's been going on in development since just after Christmas last year, so I'm pretty happy with its sustainability.  8)

Updated OP with a screenshot from the latest dialogue development I'm doing some tweak and repairs on

Howdy All,

So after 250-something days of working on this, I've figured it's time to open it up for a bit of testing.

It's still very new - there's not much content or graphics implemented, but it's generally quite moddable in regards to the data.

Project Keira is, well in Bay12 terms and on summary, Adventure Mode of Dwarf Fortress. It's form-based on VB.Net and just a hobby-project of mine. I'd love to get some feedback from Bay12 on it - especially the modding side of it, I'm not sure what the data files are capable of just yet.

To quote a description from another forum I posted on, here's the Introduction, really.

Anyway, you can download the latest version here.

Edit; Random screenshot from earlier test-play. :)

Oh god I'm thrilled at the idea of someone studying engineering pondering the hilarious uses of candy.

"Well, we got the adamantine portapotties set up, and so far there is good news and bad news."
'Ok, what's the good news?'
"Well, the catchment tank liquid was enough mass to help hold them down under the straps in high winds, and they're absurdly light otherwise."
'...and?'
"The material is nearly frictionless, so it is self-cleaning."
'...and?'
"Well... the first tester slipped, sliced their fingers off on the doorframe trying to catch themself, and cursed loudly."
'That's terrible, were we able to get them reattached?'
"...not quite, apparently an adamantine container with one large exit and a small air intake provides a remarkably effective method of focusing soundwaves, due to the speed of sound in the material being impossible to measure, the reverberations built up inside of the chamber and began expelling air through the open doorway at an exponentially increasing rate, converting the tester into a fine mist."
'...goddamn, can we prevent this from ha-'
"Hang on, sir, we still haven't figured out how to make it stop doing this yet, we tried to build a containment chamber but it imploded."
'Oh... that's bad huh.'

Explosion-by-compression material for superstructure girders sounds like a swell idea.

General Discussion / Discussion: Materials and their magical properties?
« on: August 26, 2016, 05:48:56 am »
Hi all! Long time no see!

Long story short I'm now a trainee Civil Engineer and I seem to be making waves at my company, as they're funding me through College. I need to make a big splash with the highest grades.

I've downloaded, printed and am currently going through the subjects, one of which is called "Science and Materials in construction and the Built Environment"... and I thought; I wonder where and who I know that would know such microscopic, vague knowledge?

Introducing; Bay12. So I figured I'd open up discussion on materials and their properties - it's an interesting topic for those interested, educational to all, and something I can parasite my butt off of.

So... Discuss; What are the best materials for conducting heat and electricity? What are the strongest yet most flexible materials? Which materials best dissuade the passing of liquids, sounds, radiation, so forth?

Also as a footnote, I hope to any previous acquaintances of Bay12 to me, whom pop their head through the door of this topic in passing interest, you are doing very finely.

Much adoration and everlasting friendship,

Azkanan

Still waiting for some good game screenshots. I check in here relatively often for them. Skyrim and CK2, too. [/hint]

Fun short AAR

Started out as Moon Temple in the Elder Kings mod. Started with a slightly Martial-based Nord fellow with 19 Martial.

Got into a bunch of early inquisition wars with the Reach scum fellows, took their lands, went Warlord and ravaged Skyrim. I now hold pretty much everything west and north of Whiterun, with exception to a heavy hold-out of land to the north along the coast and a good chunk of the Falkreath area (the latter by Colovian Scum).

At this point, my nord had gone from 19 martial to 47 in about 30 years. The Colovian confederacy had a mass revolt right in the middle of their lands, so I took the opportunity to push them out of Skyrim... unfortunately, their revolt ended early and i'd only grapped a couple of their territories at approx 47% warscore. If you check out the map, theres a single pass between Skyrim and the Imperial lands, split along the border of Pale Pass and Moregate (sic).

1100 of their men showed up in Pale Pass, so i sent half of my army numbering 1500, with my leader leadering, to KO them before the rest of them showed up and became a problem. Just about to land in Pale Pass when 1100 suddenly becomes 3500. I poo a little, halt my forces to Moregate and call my minor armies from sieging to reinforce. The 3500 marches on me, my minors haven't got a chance.

By the time they arrive, the 3500 is sent running with around 1500 dead (2k army running into the fog of war), with as I imagine, my Thonnir Windaxe standing triumphantly and very bloody. I'll have to get a screenshot some time - it crashed right around this time, so I might even get a replay (and win again, if Mara allows).

Morale of the story -- Martial is important.

Edit:

Nope, looks like I've played a bit into the game, since.

Please tell me this is an impressive mod or a fan-made game. I'd expect a lot more, considering their opportune profits and available budget. Those faces are scary and it looks like a lot of recycled content.

If there's anything I've took away from watching this stuff, it's that the only good candidate for a head of government that the UK seems to have right now appears to be Sturgeon. And there's some obvious problems with that option :V

Strangely, you're right. Complete outside idea, but not only is she a humane politician, she's strong-willed, no-nonsense and would keep Scotland in the UK.

Meanwhile, stranger dangers are arising in meltdown-country labour and the tory leaders are cropping up and dropping down like waves in a pool party.
