Okay, I managed to get the custom tileset to show up, I simply removed the sample folder.

However, I encountered another challenge: the game shows 2 sprites on every dwarf, the tileset is 16x16, how would I define this so there is only 1 tile per dwarf?

Current settings:

[OBJECT:GRAPHICS]

[TILE_PAGE:DWARVES]
   [FILE:retro/retro.bmp]
   [TILE_DIM:16:16]
   [PAGE_DIM:3:1]

[TILE_DIM:16:16]

[CREATURE_GRAPHICS:DWARF]
   [DEFAULT:DWARVES:0:0:AS_IS:DEFAULT]
   [MINER:DWARVES:1:0:AS_IS:DEFAULT]

   Custom position example:

   [MANAGER:DWARVES:2:0:AS_IS:DEFAULT]
   [WOODCUTTER:DWARVES:3:0:AS_IS:DEFAULT]
   [CARPENTER:DWARVES:4:0:AS_IS:DEFAULT]

I'm trying to make a full tileset, and I just started and made a folder in raw/graphics containing my bmp.

I made the appropriate changes in graphics_example.txt:

[TILE_PAGE:DWARVES]
   [FILE:retro/retro.bmp]
   [TILE_DIM:16:16]
   [PAGE_DIM:3:1]


I load up my saved file, and the game loads the bmp from the example folder instead of my retro.bmp in my folder called retro.

Do I need to do something extra to enable my tileset in a save?

I'm trying to add my first creature to dwarf fortress, the idea is that it's a living barrel used as a pet, it can be killed for wood and booze.

I've come this far:

How do I go about the body design? I haven't really figured that out, will my current setup work or do I need to add a brain, skull and everything else too it? And how do I make it so it's body is made out of wood and has booze for blood? Many thanks in advance =)

Hm, experimenting with getting it to work. I placed the ultima5 tileset in the graphics folder and made a folder for it called ultima5. The image is also named ultima5.bmp and I set the ultima5.txt up like this. How come It's not working?

Been reading up on custom graphic sets and I'm trying to do do a real dwarf in the spirit of Ultima 5. What do you think of this one?  :)

Okay. I went with graphics from Ultima 4 mixed with a few from Ultima 5 and it looks pretty good ingame I think.

But, smoothed/built walls are way hard to make. Perhaps some kind soul would be willing to help me out with the smoothed walls? =)

That looks really good, hm, what sprite do you think would work best for the dorfs? Thinking of giving it a go later on.
