General Discussion / Re: So I just got Oblivion today...

If you can tolerate really outdated graphics, I suggest you give Morrowind a try. I liked it far more than Oblivion. Then again, Oblivion with enough mods gets pretty awesome, but so does Morrowind.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

I'm currently almost done building a magma duct above the ocean surface, to pour magma into the ocean in a square shape and wall a section off. I will then pump the water out of there and build some glass domes for the main areas of the fortress, and build the rest under the sea floor. Then I'll breach the wall.

The fortress as it stands is pretty standard, since I need to survive while I build everything. Nothing fancy though.

I get that all the time. It autoreveals once I dig into the actual magma, or if I discover the top floor.

Or show it to the elven nobles when they begin whining about trees.

Elf: W...what's that?
Urist McTrader: Our previous king. He drowned.
Elf: Why is he an e...elf?
Urist McTrader: Long story.
Urist McTrader: So you have no problems with deforestation, then?
Elf: ...None at all.

While that would be extremely manly dwarvenly and would amuse me greatly, my civilization is the only one on this map. So no humans or elves, or even kobolds or goblins. All in all, very good for the fortress, very dull for me. I just wanted to see what the king's demands were like (TEN chests?! I spent all my platinum on furniture for them and it's not enough!).

I already busted it open. The corpse is currently rotting in my general graveyard stockpile, while I get a coffin built.

I couldn't even assign him a coffin. I guess if I build a general one he'll be buried there, being the only recently dead thing in my fortress.

The deed is done.

Now to deal with the queen.

I nominate you for the Medal of Dwarveness, for extreme elf regicide. Good job!

I vote you keep the skull.

Sounds good. I can make a totem out of it and place it at the entrance, so those damn bureaucrats will know to send a real dwarven king next time.

He wandered into one of my general bedrooms for some reason - it was already claimed, so I don't know why. Anyhow, it's out of the way, enough for me to dig a channel above it and drown him. Say goodnight, elf scum!

I love the consensus in this thread.

I guess my original expedition leader/manager/legendary miner is getting a really, really nice room now. Hurray, communism!

Edit: any idea why this happened? Did the elves take over the dwarven kingdom? Did the dwarven queen...oh ye gods, I don't want to think about elf/dwarf crossbreeds, thank you very much.

I guess I'll make a copy of the save, this is the first fortress that survives long enough for such an event, even if it was just a dirty elf.

Editedit: Now I'm trying to figure out how to single out the elf king. He's standing in my well room with about half my fort's population, and won't go to his room since it isn't actually his. Hmm...

So, the king finally showed up. A couple problems though: 1) he shows as Ruler/Elf King, and 2) I can't assign anything to him, so his requirements can't be met. I spent hours encrusting his and his queen's (actually a guard by profession) platinum furniture with rubies...anything I can do to solve this?

Also, they show up as "Tame" and not "Noble" in the task column of the unit window.
