This is possible because without CCS there's nothing to stop you. There's no counterpoint to your arguement.

Try it with CCS active and see how things go...

I don't think sneak attacks needs to be capped. While they are powerful there are enough downsides:

1) If you miss or fail to kill it's instant alert
2) It's very difficult against high level conservatives
3) It trains up a weapon skill that is inferior during 'real' combat
4) It adds to your criminal charges.

On an unrelated note I've been looking at articles about 'best free PC games' and noticed a distinct lack of LCS. DF hits every list because...it's DF, if Toady spent time on the UI it'd be bigger then Minecraft, but I think everyone forgets that LCS is still an active game and 1000x deeper then when it first came out as a 'throwaway' curses game. I am not active enough on the internet anymore to try and pimp this game but to those of you who are, it'd be nice to get LCS mentioned again...

OOOoh, I like that. Change the standard options around a bit?

Speaking of new meeting options:
1) Allow to meet in a group setting. This will be far less effective then 1-on-1 but will help keep you from missing appointments.

2) Allow remote talks. Again less effective then personal 1-on-1 but allow you to recruit in other cities. Perhaps as part of the new Recruit action item you have a chance or opportunity to recruit in other cities, and when they join have the option of either moving them locally or keeping them in their city or something like that.

Fair enough. If someone decides to pursue it further we can look at emperical data combined with personal anecdotes. As usual, internet is taken with a grain of salt.

This does raise an overall question: how 'cinematic' should LCS be? Would we rather have 'cinema' style silenced guns that shoot whispers or if it turns out that all a silencer system can do is turn ear-bleeding sound into rock concert sound?

Allow high level martial arts to block bladed weapons with their hands? Allow high sword skill to block bullets with the blade?

Perhaps have that as a starting option: Realistic vs. Cinematic. Cinematic would unlock crazy OTT stuff at high combat levels (like trick shooting so a single bullet hits two guys, stabbing through a tank etc.). Perhaps Genetic Mutants should be classified as 'cinematic' and be removed from realistic game play? (Same thing with talking dogs at L+ animal rights etc.

Silencers aren't that "silent" in real life, although it would be neat if the alarm would trigger one turn after the shot was fired to compensate for people not recognizing the silenced shot as a gunshot. Because although it isn't quiet, the different noise does throw off people.

While just a 'silencer' isn't enough there are enough after-market modifications that combined with sub-sonic ammunition makes pistols as quiet as they sound in movies. There are numerous youtube videos of crazy full-body mods and custom ammo where the only thing you can hear is a soft clicking sound.

Granted this is far more complicated then just screwing a barrel on the end and requires very specific guns, parts, and ammo but within the realms of a game it would be possible to make a reduced power 'gun' and use the same mechanics as a knife. From surprise against low/no armor opponents it can kill silently but against armor or alert enemies it is inferior in use.

If I were making it I would make it more damage then a knife, less then a regular pistol, and definitely harder to conceal.

The advantage is that it does slightly more power, handles armor a little better then a knife, and uses a more common skill so if alarm is raised you can swap your silenced pistols out for big ole' revolvers to blow the enemy away. Disadvantage is cost of both gun, ammo, and modifications, harder to conceal.

It could also be applied to SMGs but anything larger (shotgun, rifles etc.) it gets to the question: 'what's the point?' why bother silencing a rifle if the ammo makes it only effective at close range anyway? And a silenced shotgun is possible but really, really dumb :D

Really enjoying sneak attacks. I have a squad of 5, 4 with knives (one with crowbar due to crappy security) and I believe it's working as expected. After a first couple of brutal rampages they're mostly silent now. On the 'low level' maps like Factories and Garment Makers I can clear the map by sneak attacking the 1-2 stacks of conservative guards and/or managers. On more difficult maps like Genetics/Cosmetics I can usually get about half-way through the map before I either botch an attack, run into a high level corporate manager who dodges it, or just run into a stack of conservative lab techs bigger then my stack and alarm triggers.

Finally, it is of marginal value on the high end maps as the armor that, say, soldiers wears basically nullifies the attack so although I'm stabbing sneakily it's not doing anything and then their M16s raze my party.

I hope that this 'stealth atttack' feature can be expanded perhaps with weapon attachments (silencers?). Would it be possible to give this ability to Conservatives? Like if a conservative is armed with a 'sneak attack' weapon and raises the alarm he makes a sneak attack against your party? I feel that could make high end maps absolutely brutal... maybe create a new 'assassin' type disguised as something else (regular guard?) that sneak attacks your party...

I just want to take a quick second to say what a pleasure it has been watching LCS grow from an initial tiny game into the monstrosity of wonder it has become today. I've been playing it off and on since the beginning and thinking back about how the game was versus what it has become now? My deepest thanks to everyone who has contributed a lot or a little over the years as this has not only been an ongoing source of amusement and entertainment but also a tribute of selfless dedication by the community.

Great job, everyone  :D

As cript so wisely pointed out, I did not fully understand the rules. I come from a mafia land where you have to reach the majority to lynch, and if the majority is not reached, then it results in a no lynch.

So here's a question, even if he was going to be lynched, why is it so suspicious that I hammered him? He was already dead as I doubt the votes would have shifted severely in under an hour on D1.

You seem awfully obsessed about me hammering even though apparently it wouldn't have made a difference.

Interesting...

Alot of text and yet still not answering the question, praguepride.
I shall ask for the third time, why did you cast the last lynch on Azulth? If your saying that all of what you have done is for town, why don't you explain the hiding then jumping on the band wagon?
It seems now when your the accused one you actually start trying to defend yourself as much as possible.

I find it interesting that you ask questions that have already been answered, yet acting like I'm the scummy one...interesting.

/takes notes...finally.

Praguepride, your thoughts on what has happened?

God I hate digging for quotes on this forum....

Anyway, here's what I think happened:

scum started random D1 bandwagons. Common scum tactic as everyone's accusing everyone. If it works, great because responsability is very light ("everyone was acusing everyone...").

Now, we had an almost D1 lynch which is the WORST kind of no lynch. If you get lynch -1 but miss the deadline, then all the next phase is wasted focused on that person when if he had just been lynched, an answer would have come up.

Now everything I've done has been for the purpose of town. Hell, I'm being far more truthful then I should. I'm not really jivving well with the Bay 12 style of mafia. I'm probably not going to play another game. My motivation is low. If you want to lynch me JUST because of that, fine.

However, I am not a douche and I'm not going to completely phone it in either. No need for replacements. I'll monitor things, throw my vote down, and play to win. It might not be the most fun for me, but whatever. Unfortunately, my lack of motivation is probably going to keep me alive for quite some time as scum don't like to kill lazy townies.

Finally, I think criptfiend is scum for 3 reasons.

1) He started the bandwagon on a townie. Scum would *know* who's town and who isn't.
2) Jokereman died accusing criptfiend
3) Cript has been very keen on pointing out the "scummy" aspects of other players, jumping on what I consider pretty trivial things and blowing them out of proportion. This is a very common scum tactic as it is rather effective if you're not watching for it.

Now, I'm NOT getting into a big WIFOM debate as that's a waste of time. I go with my gut and a healthy dose of Occam's Razor. I've played with (who I consider) some VERY good scum players, and they never rely on convaluted plots within plots because it's so easy for it to be ruined by one lynch. In a bare bones basic game like this, I think scum are going to play it by the book: stay out of the spotlight, jump on townies but don't cast suspicious votes.

As for my current allegations, I've accused criptfiend. He's responded in three different ways to a single vote by a supposedly suspicious townie. That sets off another red flag for me.

@criptfeind: Questions? Why would I ask you questions? If you're scum, you're just going to lie to me. this is a barebones game. But fine, I'll ask some stupid questions:

1) Why are you jumping on other people for minor transgressions?
2) Why are you responding to a single allegation in three different ways (first irritation at not being asked a question, then you undermined my comment by saying that Joker pressured me and Siquo more then you despite him having his vote on you, and finally trying to wiggle away by accusing me of dancing around when I'd just dropped a massive text bomb containing far more truth then anything else posted so far.)
3) If you're not scum and I'm not scum, then that leaves 5 people, 40% which are scum. So who's it going to be?
4) How badly do you want me to be lynched just to shut me up?

Alright, you can either do a knee-jerk reaction and vote for me and mislynch again or we can sit down and figure out what happens.

I'm not exactly a pro at this game, especially not on this site, but from what I've seen, D1 mislynches are usually town against town. Scum are more then happy to sit back and either let things go to a no lynch or let town mislynch each other because either way, they're clean. If they mislynch or try to mislynch D1, they've exposed themselves early and risk going 1 for 1 with town, which is a recipe for scum failure.

So, a better question is: why was Jokerman-EXE killed? Scum kill people for 1 of 3 reasons:
1) revenge
2) fear (especially if the guy is a pro scum hunter)
3) they were on to something.

Now, I'll level with you guys, my motivation to play is next to none. I'm here watching things go but I'm just not feeling it to invest a ton of time psycho-analyzing everyone's posts, especially when I have 0 clue about who's playing suspiciously.

Anyway, who did Joker accuse? Who did Joker vote for? Those are the questions that will uncover scum.

As for me, I'm just a really awesome actor :D
