There's thirteen dorfs in my reclaim fortress, embarked with fourteen, one death.

The init.txt is set at:

[POPULATION_CAP:10]

[BABY_CHILD_CAP:0:1]

I've NEVER had an immigration or pregnancy.  However, the fortress is also sealed from the outside, so I've never traded or had a meeting with a liason from the mountainhome either.

Not sure about the liason, do you have a drawbridge entrance or something? I hear that closing off the only way of escape drives a liason crazy if they are trying to leave.

CONFIRMED.

I once walled in my fort to keep wildfires out.  The human liason promptly went berserk and murdered everyone in the whole fort.  It was hilarious.

The dark tile on the pump does act as a wall.

But, water can still flow diagonally past it.  Be sure to have it blocked square on both sides.

I found out the hard way, but at least it give my Dorfs a bath, dirty little bastards they are.

I just want it gone because it ruins the symmetry of my fortress.

I've got a magma pipe as well, and I'm going to build my furnaces and workshops around it, but I got four levels down and found the pool in my way.

Funny you should mention fire.  I'm actually reclaiming this fort.
My first time in, Fire Imps started grass fires injurying some of my dwarves.  Then the human liason got trapped in the fort, went crazy, and proceeded to murder everyone inside.  Everyone outside went crazy and killed each other, and all the animals on the map (including some epic battles with the fire imps).
Everyone was murdered or went mad, and the entire map burnt down five times.

FUN.

I've got a pipe and a pool on my map.  What's the best way to get rid of the pool?
My plan was to pump from a stream straight on to the top of the pool and just mine it out.  But, I"m wondering will that just turn one layer to obsidian or the whole pool at once?

Yeah, they do.  But the Clerk is only a very slight change.

 I just double checked and the Clerks are flashing, just very, very faintly.  I'm using the Mayday Green set from the TinyPirate tutorial.  The names flash in the menus, but also on the main game screen the dwarf icons flash light and dark once they hit Legendary.

Another one, any reason a Legendary Clerk doesn't flash?  I'm using the Mayday tiles.

I've never bothered with the effort of getting a legendary clerk, but are you SURE he's legendary?  And by flash, you're only looking at the name in the units menu, right?

I mean flashing on the game screen to indicate Legendary status.  They're definately Legendary, I've just started a new reclaim fort with thirteen dorfs.  I want to max them in as many stats as possible, and Clerk trains really fast.  Three dorfs are already Legendary in it, I have'nt even got a Miner or Pump Operator up there yet.
Once they hit Legend in another stat, I guess I'll know for sure.

Using ramps isn't a solve-all, though... I've had at least one fatal cave-in caused by dwarves digging out large areas of ramps in an inappropriate order. Still not sure exactly what caused them, I just know I've lost at least one legendary miner that way.
The only way ramps can cause cave ins AFAIK is if you build a ramp under a tree.

I dug out a big area with ramps to make a lake.  I'd had all the trees cut down first, but it was so big an area that some saplings had grown into trees before the ramps were finished.

Knocked out nine or ten of my trainee miners.
