DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Aquifer piercing

I can't quite wrap my head around this. I see what looks like two traditional left right pump stacks next to each other somehow powered by a water wheel. I've watched the video several times and I'm not sure exactly how he gets to that point.

Could someone perhaps make a simplified step by instruction list with a rough accompanying diagram? I would be happy to doctor it up for posterity myself once I understand this better. This method is too good, we have to get the word out.

Thanks a lot man!

Wow they just plug the holes in the wall without cancelling anything. Looks like I'm getting my beard wet on the next embark.

I'm lazy. I put the training barracks at the front gates and just throw everyone in to big melee squads and leave them on train all year long.

When I do try and micromanage I only do it with the crossbow squads because training them is slightly more complicated.

Paste this in your dfterm2.conf in the "addresses = { "section and it works great.

{ name = "DF 0.34.11", size_address = 0x0089A0F4, screendata_address = 0x00899D94, checksum = 0xD09EF39B, method = "PackedVarying" }

I made a custom font using my favorite 16x16 tileset for use in putty using this script http://kmkeen.com/df2ttf/ (thanks keenerd). When you use it with dfterm2 it makes the putty connection look 90% exactly like playing dwarf fortress locally. It's freaking awesome. To make it look 100% the same the colors in putty need to be adjusted. If anyone knows what needs to be set to what or where to find out that would be much appreciated.

You just drop this into C:/windows/fonts and set putty to use it when you connect to dfterm2 at size 12. It is basically the Marble Dice tileset with some modifications I made for engraved walls and floors and a small fix where rivers didn't match up perfectly.

Holy shit, I think I just spotted my problem, why did it take posting a screen to find this?

D:\dwarfortress

should be

D:\dwarffortress

I don't know whether to laugh or cry if this was the only thing necessary to fix this

I suspected a fundamental disconnect somewhere, that's why I had you post it. That's also also why I asked you to include the directory it was in but it seems you found it on your own.

What option are you referring to? Print mode? Mine is at the default 2d. I think text is only for linux and mac consoles.

I'm guessing remote in software doesn't work on you kids' new age phones yet?

Post a screenshot of your configured slots and an explorer window of where your Dwarf Fortress.exe resides.

Hm, what kind of trouble? What happens? I don't think I did anything special, I just pasted the checksum portion in the right spot in the config file, then configured my slot to point to D:\DF\df_we_11\Dwarf% Fortress.exe and the working directory to D:\DF\df_34_11 and it just works.

How is yours behaving?

Help me out here, where do I configure the path to the DF exe? I think it's pointing to an old version but I don't see where to configure it.
-------------------

Nevermind, I found my old user I had created (the admin I'm guessing) and figured it out. It's running. What problem are you having?

And do you know how to close the other curses windows in the putty session so I get just the game? There has to be a full screen button or something but the text files included with dfterm2 are destroying my brain.

Well shit, I might be able to get it working right now then.

I have another about a true hero

A dragon had arrived. Peasants out farming, gathering lumber, and fishing were all scrambling to get inside the fortress walls. Many were struck down by the dragon's flames. Amidst the chaos one final large group made it over the drawbridge before it went up... But how? The dragon was almost inside. Was he out chasing a brave peasant leading them away? An investigation was in order.

The dragon was unconscious. A bolt had struck his right eye and he lay there while the remaining peasants filtered in. But how? There were no crossbow dwarfs in the fortress guard. After the dragon was captured by the traps under the fortress the investigation continued.

They found the body of a lone fallen hunter near where the dragon had fallen unconscious. He alone had stopped the dragon long enough to save the rest. Prior to his final stand the hunter's wife and child had been struck down by the dragon. He didn't want anyone else to have to die.

This is one of my friend's stories. I think it's his best one.

There once was a problem noble in an established fortress. The tradition in that fortress was to unleash a cage full of captured goblins in their room while they were sleeping as guards waited outside the door.

But this noble was not going to go quietly.

The fighting started at the onset of winter when the 3 goblins attacked him in his bedroom. The 4 of them tumbled all over the bedroom and blood was tracking all over the floor. Days went by. One of the goblins was left unconscious in the bedroom and the fight spilled over into his office. More days passed. The two goblins are now tag teaming him from the point of exhaustion and blood is covering everything in the room. Eventually he kills one of them in the dining room. Weeks have gone by and the brutal bear handed fighting continues. The remaining two have hardly a bone left that isn't broken. Most of the Noble's fingers are broken. Everything he owns is stained with goblin blood and the walls are painted with it.

Finally, after the guards had listened to an entire season of nonstop brutal fighting the Noble's room went quiet. All of the goblins were dead. He had killed them with his bear hands slowly over the course of an entire season. He was exhausted, hungry, thirsty, and had more broken bones to even count. With nothing else to be done the guards unlocked the door and let him out.

The blood soaked Noble proceeded to the mead hall.

Back when the developer released checksums it was a breeze to run. I don't know what to do make it run now. It's a shame, it was hands down the best 3rd party software for DF.
