I think we need more bedrooms

I can't agree with that. More bedrooms = more space = more time for dwarves to satisfy his needs (eat-drink-sleep) = less time for work. Though i will pay respect to previous overseers and will finish bedroom project, unless it will occupy too much resources (time, dwarf labor etc)

i was being sarcastic :)
The level i dug out has space for ~70 dwarves and now enghul dug out an additional 80 or so

'Stools' Gusilakman - 1st Sandstone 253

The strange noises from the caverns grow louder and louder, there must be a whole cave-swallow-men colony down there by the sounds of it. Also we get visited by more and more goblin snatchers, i think an ambush is imminent!
I need to focus all my energy on the military now, somebody else has to take over the fortress control!

Some engravings: (seems like the dwarves are happy with the previous overseers so far..)

The grand bedrooms (every dwarf has his own gold cabinet, making their bedrooms "Great")

The dining hall right above the bedroom-level:

The current fort on the DF map-archive:

Notes for the following overseer:

-use dwarf therapist and sort py profession to get the best overview of the dwarves
-some of the bedrooms still need furnishing
-improove the entrance defence
-move the depot into the fort
-explore caverns (i think there are many many cave-swallow-men down there... at least it sounds like it)
-pull the lever in the barracks (otherwise the hospital well will overflow..)

'Stools' Gusilakman - 4th Malachite 253

Kosoth Idenamal (a miner) got elected as Mayor, thus replacing Mart. I think he overextended himself being our Mayor and manager at the same time so he can focus all his attention to being a fulltime manager now.
The Mayor demanded to get Marts (big) office so i gave Mart a new one.

Splendid!

Our Hospital is also done and well-stocked (buckets, cloth, thread, splints and even some soap.)

Im still waiting for the water to flow into the cistern under the wells.

Still so much to do, but my time here is nearly over. I hope i can finish the bedrooms and the great dining hall in time.

'Stools' Gusilakman - 28th Granite 253

Immigrants arrived, a whooping 22 fresh dwarves. I immediately drafted the 4 most promising dwarves into my military squad and started forging additional weapons and armor for them.

Amongst the bunch is also a dwarf with good wound dressing and suturing skills, he will be our chief medical dwarf from here henceforth. (he also is a adept comedian which is always a plus)
Our new chief medical dwarf doesn't stay idle for long either:

Our hunter decided to evade the foxes attack and jumped 3z levels down into the brook.

Only minutes later Vabok died from suffocating.

'Stools' Gusilakman - 2nd Granite 253

A lot of work got done in these past months. Our workspace and stoarage levels are finally finished:

And the dwarves are busy smelting gold (of which we have LOTS) and making more coke. (currently about 200bars of coke as per Spadgers reports)

I also produced some steel and equipped myself in full armor and a mighty fine battle axe. I must sharpen my skills because the strange noises from the caverns become louder every day.
So most of the time i reside in my office thats also my training room at the same time:

I'm in desperate need of new recruits, i hope we are able to attract some immigrants this season!

The dwarven caravan arrived and the outpost liasion god ambushed by some thieves.

If he's looking for medical aid he came to the wrong place.

Seems like Spadger isn't a people-person. After some initial chatter with the dwarven caravan they packed their stuff and left looking pretty sour.

A strange mood on a mason lead to this nice artifact:

..basicly a dolomite bed with an image of itself on it worth 14400. This will fit nicely in my bedroom.

And the future workspace are is nearly done:

Meanwhile i just noticed that one of the previous, overzealous overseers told the dwarves to basicly fell every last tree within a radius of 10km.

'Stools' Gusilakman - 3st Sandstone 252

There sure are a lot of strange noises coming from deep under the fort...

But i can't worry about that now, theres lots of work to do!
I started with assigning appropriate work orders for the dwarves. (looks like the old rulers just let the dwarves do whatever they want... we dont possibly need 30 masons.)
Now it's time to dig out some functional workspaces and collect all the furniture, metal, coal and food that is scattered seemingly random all around this "fort".

This wasn't what i was expecting. Uncle, you failed me !

"architectural richness" ?

This place is a mess !
"Dormitory eh? Let's have a look..." .... "This can't be! Who in their right mind would sleep here?!!"
15 beds crammed into a tiny room with no space to walk, you'd have to walk over at least 5 sleeping dwarves to get into your own bed.

My head was spinning. Where is the symetrie? Where is the harmony ?
For someone that strives for symetric perfection (OCD) this place was hell!

I had to see the dwarf in charge as soon as possible!
After wandering aimlessly around for what felt like days i came across a curious door labeled "Broker's office".
"This must be the dwarf in charge", i thought. "Let's have a word with him!"

This dwarf sure likes his green glass. After a short discussion (consisting of me complaining mostly) i was officially in charge of the place.
All he could say was "If you dont like it, do it yourself!".
About time i went to work...
