DF General Discussion / Re: Who here plays DF without sets?
« on: July 16, 2010, 01:27:20 am »
When i first started out DF, I skipped the vanilla and went straight to using Mayday's, only because I thought the ASCII graphics were too hard to understand. I enjoyed looking at other forts at the DF map Archive, but I couldn't quite understand most of them because they weren't using a graphical tileset. I had only had my feet a bit wet, and still had alot to learn about DF, so I decided against using graphics and to learn the game played the way it was meant to be. After getting accustomed to it, I grew to love it.

Currently, the fort I'm playing, I'm using IronHand's tileset, mostly to mix it up and see the utilization of his Tilemagic. Though, it is pretty, I'd rather use the ASCII because it's so much cleaner.

I love this tileset. It's so... neat.

I know sound/music is a low priority, but is there any chance for new music to be added to the game in the near future? I mean, I absolutely love THE dwarf fortress music, but I can only listen to it for so long. In my opinion, I believe music adds alot to the atmosphere of games. Everybody knows the great feelings of nostalgia when they hear video game music of days past.

Please show us more of your sweet guitar skills.

Urist: Hey Obok, we are the only two soldiers around here, and I'm tired of these individual combat drills. As your superior, I command you to spar with me!

Obok: Sure, this is going to be great experiencefun! I'll be right back, I must obey this compelling feeling from a greater power to put on some armor.

Urist: No, ignore it! Lets do this!

The militia commander hacks The Axedwarf in the right upper arm with her iron battle axe and the severed part sails off in an arc!

Urist: oops, we should get you to the hosp-

The Axedwarf charges at The militia commander!
The militia commander looks surprised by the ferocity of The Axedwarf's onslaught!

Obok: Tis just a flesh wound!

How do I get my military dwarves to start working again? I've disbanded the squad: They all say No Job, and they aren't counted as idlers. I set them to fish, they still say No Job.

help, same question.

2nd year, mid-summer. here's the big list of problems.

1.) there's some Rhesus macaque meat that is on fire. it just constantly makes smoke. its been burning for a few seasons. i tried marking it for dump, but no dwarf does it.

2.) i had a bunch of unskilled dwarves and i made them sparr. 2/3rds of them just bled to death a long while after they sparred. what happened?

3.) i'm out of water and booze. my population jumped from 7-14-30. they drank all the booze and outpaced my production. none of the immigrants were brewers and my skilled one died. there's no water on the map. i don't remember the location exactly. i know its part mountain with a magma pipe and savanna. it never rained. there's no aquifers.

what do i do?
