I hate to be 'that guy'
but while I agree with this main mechanic, applying it to bows would be silly, as you can't pull a bow back and hold it indefinitely

DF Suggestions / Re: Adding Multiplayer/LAN to Dwarf Fortress
« on: September 25, 2012, 08:12:30 pm »
Why doesn't someone just program a game similar to DF and make it multiplayer?
Clearly if these threads keep popping up, there is a market for it.

General Discussion / Re: In the apocalypse, would your home region survive?
« on: September 25, 2012, 07:52:05 pm »
Rural south eastern ontario.

My main worry in the apocalypse would be other people, so if the situation is that everyone else is just gone I'll be more than cozy.
The soil around here is plenty fertile enough and I live in a redneck neighbourhood as current, meaning I have access to any sort of tool you can imagine for maintaining systems that I need, up-to and including paving roads and flushing sewer lines.  :P

I'm still quite interested in seeing someone actually -make- the body for this mod.

 :-\

hm.
Personally I'd like to see a FFT mod.

Just seems like it would translate over a bit better.  ;D

DF Modding / Re: Human Castle (just a bunch of questions)
« on: September 20, 2012, 01:06:41 am »
Being a human I agree with Scow, we are quite known for our giant chunks of stone.
We're also know to pour liquids which turn to stone, and have built many cities across this realm.

While we can become accustomed to the dark, many of us have difficulty at first.

But seriously in all honesty, humans and dwarves are not that different, because dwarves are designed by humans through mythology to basically be small humans who are strong and great metal crafters.

Give humans slow learning and call it a day.

DF Modding / Re: Making Useless Labors Useful
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:39:51 pm »
making concrete could be a more efficient way to make blocks, or alternatively, could make a reaction that makes water+lava at the same time. (Would that even work?  ??? )
Bee keeping isnt really a non-useful thing as I see it, honey is a very useful product and does not go bad. (whether or not it does in game however I do not know)
Honey has been used in the past to preserve some foods as well, I remember hearing about people pickling apples with honey or some such.

Do wax crafts exist as current?
wax and soap toys wouldn't be a bad idea.
Pressing soap would most likely be able to do something, like returning soap to oils to be used else where

The bee armor might be onto something actually, bees naturally make their hives don't they? Wait no I'm thinking paper wasps perhaps.
Either way, it might be able to get paper/fabric from bees somehow, but anything that would be able to actually protect you would likely need a fair bit more work.

Wax has been used with leather in the past to make a hardened leather http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiled_leather
Soap could be used in a similar fashion I suppose as well, being a near-wax substance, its only downside would be its reaction to water.

With the release of FTL (Faster than Light) I'm going to have to add that into the list now.

a few notable games for people with autistic tendancies.

Minecraft
Spacestation 13 (Might count as a series since theres several flavours from Goon, to D2, to B12)
Runescape
Harvest Moon series
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Pretty much any MUD you can think of.

DF Modding / Re: Adventure Mode Multiplayer (this time with a solution!)
« on: September 12, 2012, 07:44:14 pm »
It's not exactly a  new concept to use NPC's as PC's  :-\

But frankly its not possible as is for Dwarf Fortress.

It was barely possible in Morrowind and Oblivion which are two of the best examples I can think of for this approach.

Other Games / Re: Games that allow one to salvage(not scavenge)
« on: September 10, 2012, 12:15:41 pm »
the only thing that comes to mind for me is mods in the fallout series.
back when car mods for fo3 were being started I was part of a project known as the FVP (fallout vehicle project) and the MSVC (Make Shift Vehicles Catalogue)

The entire project flopped from butt hurt modders raging at each other about how things so I quit it all and ended up joining CraftyBits for oblivion, so unless someones revived the project, thats a bust.

DayZ would have salvaging vehicles available as well, and on D2K5 Space Observatory you can repair a derelict space station and live on it if you so wish to, but that might be a little broader than you're looking for.
